What are the chances... Kona Kone at 'Ohana?

Originally, we had ADRs for Kona Kafe and 'Ohana, but recently let go of the Kona Cafe ressie for Crystal Palace. One of the main reasons I wanted to go to Kona is because my son would love the Kona Kone.

We have a dinner ADR at 'Ohana and I believe I read somewhere that Kona and 'Ohana share a kitchen. What are the chances that they would let us purchase a Kona Kone for his dessert at 'Ohana? I am willing to pay for the dessert and any sort of delivery fee that might be associated. I am not asking for special treatment... I was just wondering if they allow this and if it ever done.

Thanks for your help!

I think it will totally depend on your waiter at 'Ohana. Some are more willing to work with you then others. I do know that when we eat at Kona's we can get the bread pudding dessert from 'Ohana every time. It is a charge of $5 for a huge serving. :D

We tried to get something else because we don't like bread pudding but were told no.

I thought you could get pineapple. Did this change? We all hate bread pudding, but LOVE fresh pineapple.

What's a Kona Cone? :rolleyes1

Thanks for your response. I kinda thought this might be the case. I guess we can ask. The worst thing they can say is no. :)

Interesting... If you don't mind me asking, did you ask to sub the bread pudding for something else or did you request to purchase another dessert? Thanks!

I agree that it depends on your waiter. Some of the people in my family do not like the friendship bread at Ohana, so they ask--and have gotten it every time--for the regular bread and macadamia honey butter from Kona. For me--I like it all!:lmao:

I would call the day of your reservation and ask prior to arriving. If you are told yes, get the name of the person who said yes. If you are told no, ask your server again at the restaurant. :)

Yum... friendship bread! Glad to hear to one more person who has had success with getting something a Kona item at 'Ohana or 'Ohana item at Kona. Thanks for your response!

Thanks so much... that is a terrific idea! Would I just call Disney Dining or is there a more direct number?

You wouldn't be able to get A Kona dessert from Kona because unlike Ohana, Kona's desserts are not made in the kitchen. They are made at the dessert bar in the restaurant. There isn't a key to ring in a Kona Kone on the Ohana computer system. Getting bread is different since that's from the kitchen, hence you won't see an Ohana server in Kona.

We had sushi at the sushi bar in the upstairs lobby at the Poly and we were able to order dessert from Kona. We got the fondue and a Kona Kone. Not sure if you could just order dessert tho. If it is not too busy, then maybe. Also there are seats for the sushi bar up against the window so maybe sitting there rather that AT the sushi bar maybe that would be ok... Just an idea. :)

No. I'm sorry. I should have been more specific. We asked for a different dessert.

Awww... that's disappointing to hear. I did not realize that Kona desserts were not prepared in the kitchen.

That is a great idea! Thanks for the suggestion. I had thought about trying to get an ADR for Kona to take him to get a Kone, but I hated to take up a table for 1 Kona Kone! We might try this suggestion.

No problem, thanks for the clarification. As much as I like 'Ohana, I find bread pudding to be an odd choice since there is only 1 dessert offered. Most people either love bread pudding or hate it.

It's a short walk to the Kona Cafe from 'Ohana. You can line this up yourself if needed. Either by eating dessert there or by buying one and schlepping it back to the table. Sure, it's an OOP add on if you are on a dining plan, but, you know, hero.

You can sit down at Kona and only get dessert. Margin per minute, it's a good table. Be respectful though and don't linger.

I had wondered if I could get my own and bring it back to 'Ohana. Would I need an ADR or could I just walk up and order it to take back to 'Ohana. I have no problem paying OOP!

Kona is a TS so it doesn't have "to go" food. Like PP suggested you can either sit at Kona Island. (Sushi ) or get a table in Kona for your dessert.
