What are the chances for jedi training?

we are visiting HS first week of February on a low crowd projection day (according to Easy WDW). It opens at 9. We have a FP for star tours at 9-10, so we will be heading there first. If we arrive at the later end of that window, what are the chances of getting my son signed up for jedi training? Are all shows and spots taken by 10am?

The DHS gates open a few minutes early. There is no reason to go to Star Tours first - it is better to sign up for Jedi Training and then go to Star Tours. You will have plenty of time to get to Star Tours during your FP window after sign-ups.

I agree that there is no reason not to go sign up for the Training Academy before rising Star Tours. Just remember to get there well before opening as not to be disappointed.

Arrive at least 30 minutes before the scheduled park opening time.

Take the child(ren) with you to sign up for JTA first-thing upon park entry.

By 10am, you'd likely be too late.

Go directly to Jedi training to sign up after entering the park. As a PP said bring the kids with you. Can't sign up unless the kids are with you. If you try to do attractions first you could end up in a long line and not get a desirable show time. You get to pick when you return for the show but if you wait many slots may be taken.

To echo PP--sign up first.

This is what we did in April and in Dec and were successful in getting in.

In April we arrived at 8:10 am for 9 am opening. We were about 75 people back from the turnstiles. Gates opened around 8:45/8:50 am. "We" (kids plus dads) sprinted to JTA signup and by the time we signed up we were the last morning show. We were done around 9:15 or 9:20 am (? not sure if I remember but our TSMM FP+ started at 9:30 am) and went to our FP+ for TSSM. One of the children in our group (we were 2 families) changed her mind and wanted to sign up (she was scared during sign up at park open) and we headed back to see if she could be added. We were told that they were wait listing kids and she might get a spot but no guarantees (she didn't). This was around 10:30 am.

This past Dec I booked a H&V prepark breakfast since it was me and my mom and the kids and I can't sprint like Dad can carrying a small child LOL. At around 8:50 am I noticed masses of people headed for JTA signup. I rushed over with kids and got into line inside the building. We were able to book the second morning show no problem (first was full); done by about 9:10 am with signup. But this time they had double the kids per show and I was told they had room for around 400 kids by another parent in line. This was during Christmas week so maybe during busy times they increase number of shows/kids per show. I probably would have been fine if I had arrived slightly later in the morning that day (I mean near 10 am), but definitely would have missed out if we had waited in April. Also I might not have gotten a morning slot in Dec if we had arrived later for sign up.

Star tours is near JTA signup; you should have plenty of time after sign up to get to your FP+ window. I would not risk missing out as this was the highlight for our boys in our trips. Have fun!

I agree with everyone! Go to Jedi Training first! You will have plenty of time to make your FP+. And even, if by some chance you get to Star Tours past 10 am, there is typically a 15 minute late grace period for FP+ and the standby line for Star Tours will probably not be longer than 15-20 minutes at that point anyway.

My son did JTA on 12/25. We didn't rush, in fact we just kind of meandered over around 10 and had our choice of sessions. He ended up in the 4:10 group as it worked with around our FP+ times. There were even kids signing up when the group started.

On high crowd level days, there are two groups for each session - 30 kids per session and the sessions run every 30 minutes or so. During a slower time of year, there's only one group of 15 kids and the sessions run 50 minutes apart. A lot less spots in February that get filled quickly compared to double the spots and shows during the Christmas season.

Exactly!

I guess I wasn't clear in my OP. :). That's what I get for being sleep deprived. :P

I figured we would head to star tours area when we arrive anyway because of FP. That's why I put it first, so we would be heading in that direction anyway. Sign up for Jedi, then ride ST.

In other words, if we waited until say 9:30/9:45 to get to HS to get to sign ups for Jedi. I'm honestly not keen on getting to the park before it even opens. We aren't rope drop people, especially with two young kids.

We will probably arrive for 9 or shortly after if all goes to plan (as much as it can with two kids). ;)

If you are thinking of getting to Jedi sign ups by 9:30, you should set back your Star Tours FP by 30 minutes. You could be in a long line at Jedi and you don't want to miss your FP window. But actually, the Standby wait for Star Tours at that time of day will probably be 10 minutes.

i have had mixed sign ups and find it to be more based on luck of the draw then anything
We have been turned away when getting there at 8:30 and tons of people going to sign up while another time getting there at 10 and being in one of the early shows
So if you are going at a slow time of yr I wouldn't be shocked to get in at 9:30/45 but If it's a top priority I wouldn't risk it either.

We did Jedi Training in November, so just the 15 kids per show every 50 minutes. We arrived just around the 9am opening, not earlier as is suggested. We were in line for well over an hour to sign up! The line moves extremely slowly. We had a choice of the 6, 7, 8pm shows but not too much further back they were telling people they would be waitlisted. That line was BY FAR the longest we waited for anything all week!
Star Tours was a posted wait of 15 minutes when we finally signed up. Don't stress too much about that FP.

I'm still unclear as to what the OP is asking?

If you want to guarantee a space at JTA, why would you wait so late? What am I missing?

If we have a H&V breakfast before part opening and wait on porch to run to Jedi sign up at 8:45 or when they let us, do we have a better chance of getting choice of time? Do we choose time or do they book in order?

And how far in advance do you have to return back for your show time?

The chances of us making rope drop are slim. Two small kids, etc etc. I wanted to know what the chances of getting jedi were if we head to that area for 9:30-10.

I would get for the gate well before 9 (say 8:30).
I would beeline to sign ups.

I don't think it is possible to say you will or will not get a slot.

My friend, first week of Dec, did not manage to to the gate until 9 on the nose and by the time they got in and beelined to JT sign ups, it was full. They were able to wait list. Though that is not a guarantee, her son did end up making it off the wait list and into JT. Crowds were not too bad that day either. I do not how much long they waited in the sign up line as it did not occur to me to ask.

Since the child must go with you to sign up, I would make it a priority and purpose to make rope drop. Or make sure your child understands you will try to sign up but may not get in. If the child's heart is set on it, not getting to do it might be especially disappointing.

Also, if it is just one child--when you do arrive, send that child with one parent and no bags on in while you stay behind to do bag check. I don't know if there is a separate no bags entrance because of the way they do have it set up at DHS, but no need for then to be stuck while the other parent can do the bag check.

We did this several times with my family when they had a place to be where time was of the essence. I did have a stroller to help manage their bags, though.

So while no one can promise success, chances are improved the earlier you can arrive and the less pit stops you make (bag check, shopping, pictures, etc).

I'm not sure anyone can answer that one. Sorry. I guess you'll just have to take your chances.
