Hoping for some sense of normality by then, but the more flexible cancellation options only seem to run part way through 2021...
so if we find we have to cancel a 2022 cruise (e.g. we are still unable to fly from the UK to the US), can someone point me in the direction of what the cancellation charges might be?

Thanks!

my PIF date is Jan 6, 2022 - so if things aren't 'normal' by Christmas next year, I'll cancel - you can up to PIF date with no penalty but after that there's a charge

Thanks, found the standard policy and it just seems that 'cabins with restrictions' are where you'd lose the deposit as well. Can't actually find examples of what these are though, is it like promotional fares, guarantee cabins, that type of thing?

Concierge cabins. You can move a concierge booking for no loss, but if you cancel it, your deposit becomes the mouse's.
Also, any cabin that has PIF due at booking. This is usually a promotional rate, for military, etc. But that is because those rates are often only available after the normal PIF fare date so it would be subject to the cancellation fees anyway.

So does the cruise insurance only cover you after your Pay in full date? And of course health issues on the ship, etc.

Cruise insurance covers actual costs for cancellations or delays. So, if you cancel before paid in full and get a full refund, you will have no actual costs and the insurance won't cover anything. I am fairly sure that the insurance purchased through Disney Cruise isn't actually considered purchased until your final payment is made.

If you purchase insurance from a different source and cover expenses beyond the cruise (e.g., transportation and pre-cruise hotel), cancel for a covered reason, and have cancellation fees for those expenses that are non-refundable, your insurance may cover them.

Some insurance policies provide small payments that are not directly related to costs (for example, for missed ports or delayed luggage), but these are typically for incidents that happen immediately before, during, or after the cruise.

So I have no flight or hotel costs. If disney cancels a cruise, they would offer a refund or credit right? After a paid in full date, if I bought insurance, I could cancel and get 75% back or 100% if it was a condition layed out in the fine print?

It's very likely that Disney's flexible policies will be extended as long as the pandemic continues to be a major issue. The only reason Disney probably hasn't extended it further is because they really don't need to, and are waiting to see where science leads us with therapeutics and vaccines. They can always extend it, but once they extend it, they can't take it back. They know that as the PIF date approaches, people who are concerned will cancel rather than wait things out a bit further.
