What are some positive things that you admire about the 18th century?

The Garden Party isn't something CW has mentioned bringing back. This would have been the year if they were as they've brought back all of their other special events. In fact, I've was told by employees when I was there in May that their pulling out all the bells and whistles for Grand Illumination. I'd think, if they're doing that, they would have brought the Garden Party back this year if they intended to. It's also not listed in their special events for next year. They send the calendar of the following year's events to donors in mid-summer, so I should be getting that soon.
It will come back next year. Covid is the reason it has been postponed until 2023. I follow their social media.

I not only follow their social media, I'm a donor, and have spent a lot of time speaking with the employees (as well as multiple visits there)...it's not set in stone that it's coming back and the foundation hasn't event mentioned it. The fb event link you posted is not official CW social media.

I’m confident it will. It has been very financially successful every year it has been done, with majority of positive reviews.

One thing I envy was the possibility of actually owning your own land. (I know not everyone had that possibility though.) Here in the US now, there is a phrase where, if we have a mortgage or a paid off mortgage, we say we "own our home." But that is never actually true. We will forever pay property tax which means we never truly own it.

Actually...never mind. Ignore is easier.
I’m just curious (and I mean this in the politest way possible), is there a reason every time I post something, you seem to want to have a negative response? It seems to happen in every thread I post and you respond to. I’m not looking to start an argument and I know we both have different views but it just seems constant. Just an observation. I hope you have a nice day. :-)

You made me curious about when property taxes came to be in the U.S. Turns out, they date back to before the Revolution. "By the end of the 18th century, every state in the Union authorized local governments to collect a uniform property tax in their state constitutions." In general regarding past time periods, I am often amazed by how much some people accomplished by an early age. I would read a list of things people did and positions/offices they held, and wonder why I was comparatively such a late bloomer!

I hadn’t looked up any dates before posting but I thought property taxes came much later than that! Learned something new!

In the early days after independence, some people proposed the country should be free of almost all taxes. The Continental Congress quickly realized that wasn’t going to be possible. :rotfl:

Some taxes imposed on the USA pre-Revolution:

I love Baroque music! When CDs first came out, I bought a fairly expensive stereo system and a few Baroque CDs. It sounded so good! Still have the CDs, but not the stereo. I also like the architecture of the period. When I first visited Colonial Williamsburg, I was in awe of the buildings there. One of these days I will find a way to visit again.

People lived short lives.
So are you in favor of people drinking fruit/sugared drinks now? Since it shortens lives and all? Longevity seemed to be your goal for everyone in that thread.
