What are my Use Year choices?

I remember while taking the tour last fall, the guide mentioned Use years and that there weren't 12 months of use years. Can anyone tell me what Months are available to wind up with as a use year?

Hope I'm asking this correctly.:confused3

Just curious-why did they choose to omit the 4 they did-why no January, May, July or December?

Keep in mind, you won't necessarily be able to pick and choose from all 8 months in which use years fall. They can't just fill in whichever use year you want on your contract as an arbitrary administrative transaction. The specific units that are for sale already have use years assigned to them. By requesting a specific use year, you're asking them to look for a unit with that use year that has enough outstanding points to fit the contract you're purchasing.

If you are buying direct from Disney for one of the resorts in active sales, you have a really good chance of getting whatever UY you want, even though they will suggest one to you.

But, if you want an older resort, it might be more difficult. And, via resale, the UY is already set and can not be changed.

That kind of bugs me, knowing now that we could have asked for a specific UY when we bought BLT direct from Disney in April. We were told by our guide that our UY would be June. No other option was given, and I didn't know until recently that we could have potentially chosen a different one. Grrrrr.

But you can very easily find the resort and UY you want on resale. You may have to wait a bit to find the "perfect" mix of UY, home resort AND points you desire, but it can be done. I became a DVC member via a resale purchase and am in the process of Disney's right of first refusal on an add on contract. The sponsor of this thread is the company I'm using now.

If you are buying AKV, BLT, or SSR direct from Disney, you will be able to buy any UY you want. Disney not only has thousands of declared-but-unsold points in all eight UYs, but it also has several Units at each resort that have been declared but not yet assigned a UY. The same situation is probably true at Aulani, but I haven't been able to review the Aulani declarations.

I, too, would like to know the answer to this question. Why 8 UYs? Why not 6, or 4, or 12? Some people believe a resort's points are spread evenly amongst the 8 UYs, but that is not the case. At BLT, 57% of all points sold to date are in the February UY. Even if Disney places all of the remaining undeclared Units in the other UYs, BLT will still end up with over one-third (34.4%) in the February UY.
