What are my options?

We are doing a split stay at Aulani this coming summer. We have a one bedroom poolside room for the first two nights and a grand villa for the remaining 5.

We really would like a one bedroom ocean view for the first two nights however we would have to purchase 5 points to have the points needed to accomplish this. We already borrowed forward from 2016 to book what we have

Due to the fact that we have to purchase some points we cannot waitlist the OV one bedroom villa. Every time I have seen it come up available and called in to change the reservation it is gone by the time someone at member service picks up because the wait times are usually 20 minutes

Do I have any other options other than keep trying and hoping it will come through? I don't want to try and cancel rebook online because I don't want to lose what we already have, no other one bedroom villas are showing available any longer for those two nights. Also I don't think we can do this online since we have to purchase a few points

Thanks

I don't know if this will work but when you see it on line start the booking process, call MS while you are doing the on line booking (you have 20 minutes to complete the on line reservation) have ms cancel the original room and buy the 5 points, then complete your on line booking. That may work someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Yes, find another reservation that you need five points for, buy them from MS for that reservation, and then cancel that reservation online.

At that point you will have the five points in your account ready to grab your desired OV Aulani reservation without dealing with MS.

Voila.

It happened to me this year, by accident. I bought and then wanted to change resorts for those two days, same amount of points, and the purchased points came back with no issue on my online transaction.

Have a wonderful time. What a dream come true - a stay in an Aulani GV. Enjoy!

All our points are tied up with the Aulani reservation so I don't think booking something else that would require us to purchase the additional five points will work unless I am missing something

Talk to MS and see if they will let you buy points, apply them to the existing reservation and release points for the new reservation.

Doesn't hurt to ask and to ask more then once. Often one MS advisor will say no and the next say yes.

Thanks Disneynutz - I will give that a try today. My DH had a question that I do not know the answer to. Is it possible to purchase points from another member to add to our account?

You are allowed one transfer in or out of your account per UY. Per DVC rules you are not allowed to transfer for money.

for one-time-use, this is called a transfer.

transfers can only be done between DVC members and they transfer ownership of the actual pts. the new owner of the transferred pts can use them (based on those pts' home resort and UY, not yours) to make a reservation that they control. the DVC owner who transferred the pts no longer has any risk related to the use of the pts.

only one transfer is allowed per UY, either in or out (not both), so they can be tougher to get. DVC contracts forbid accepting compensation for a transfer. transferred pts can be banked forward one UY but cannot be borrowed.

(OTOH, "rentals" are reservations made and still owned by a DVC member which can be rented to members or nonmembers (but the renter only owns the reservation after check-in.) if a renter trashes the room or manages to leave credit card charges unpaid, DVC may follow up with the DVC member.)

these threads may explain it further, if you are curious:

They said there is no way to go around the rules to do this after the reservation is made. If it was a new reservation they could. I will try again this afternoon and see what happens

Start the conversation with "I could really, use some Disney magic, can you help me"?

If they say no, ask nicely if you can talk to a team line advisor. Often they can do what others can't.

you are asking them to violate the stated policy, so don't get your hopes up.

As a Disney Vacation Club Member, occasionally you may find yourself in need of just few extra vacation points in order to book that perfect dream vacation. Previously, this required borrowing vacation points from a future use year, but very recently a new alternative was introduced. They're called "one-time-use" vacation points and are available for a fee of $15 ($13.33 plus $1.67 tax) per vacation point. Availability of one-time-use vacation points may be limited or suspended from time to time, and the fee is subject to change.

Details:

*One-time-use vacation points are vacation points available for Disney Vacation Club Members to use as an alternative to borrowing vacation points from the following use year's allotment.
*You can obtain a maximum of 24 one-time-use vacation points once per use year per membership.
*A maximum of 24 one-time-use vacation points are processed in a single transaction, not multiple transactions.
*The fee for one-time-use vacation points is $15 (including tax) per vacation point, and is subject to change.
*One-time-use vacation points expire according to the use year of the reservation booked and are non-refundable, non-transferable and cannot be banked or borrowed.
*One-time-use vacation points are not available for waitlist reservations.
*One-time-use vacation points cannot be applied retroactively to existing reservations.
*One-time-use vacation points are only available for Members whose contract is closed and in good standing.
*One-time-use vacation points are available only for Disney Vacation Club Resorts, Disney Collection*, Adventurer Collection* and World Passport Collection reservations.

I am making some assumptions here but you might try this

First i assume you are going in july. If you are staying in a ocean view grand villa ( the website shows availability for all but 2 night in july)cancel the last night of the grand villa wItlist what you want then reebook the last night purchasing the 5 points now this will only possibly work if yourGV is ocean view

No, you're not missing anything. I totally was. ;) Maybe sleep. :lmao:

Hope you get it. Regardless, have a lovely vacation.

There's always a small 25 point add on :) Then you have some extra points for the next bunch of vacations. (and being a new purchase, they might even work some magic for you).

wanted to give a follow up -I did call again today and spoke with someone that is at least one step up from whomever answers the phone

I explained my situation and noted that when I booked the one bedroom villa poolside that I really preferred the ocean view and what my options were to get it on a waitlist since I didn't have enough points to cover a waitlist and there weren't any OV available at that point. I was basically told that I just had to keep checking, no other option was offered / suggested / given.

From the information on this thread I explained that if I was told / offered the option that I could have purchased the additional points to cover the existing reservation which would leave me enough points to put the OV on a waitlist I would have 100% taken that option. However since I was never given that option and didn't know that I could even do that, we are new to DVC, was there anything that could be done.

She said she would look into it and get back to me. I received a call about an hour later and she said she was able to get the one bedroom ocean view for my first two nights and could rebook the reservation for me, cancel the other, and charge me for the few points we needed. Thank you for all the knowledge everyone provided I am very grateful

Thanks - that would have been our next thing to check into if it didn't work out today.

Having been to Aulani, I actually preferred the pool views. That area of the resort is beautiful and many of the rooms will also have ocean views. Only the very low floors will be unable to see the ocean. I would just hang on to the pool view.

great to hear that it worked out. :)

Thank you for the information. We used to feel the same way about views. The older we are getting and the more time we spend in the room the more important the view is becoming. We used to book standard view at any hotel all the time but we have come to learn that the view is important to us at this stage of our life
