Paid my cruise off today in full - then noticed when I did my online check I that my stateroom said GTY instead of my selected 6152 (Disney Magic) - called Dcl first to confirm and they said the TA canceled and rebooked my ressie - what??? So I called the TA and they said it was an error on theirpartput me on hold and came back with sorry nothing we can do right now but offer you a 50.00 obc.

I don't know what I should do - only booked a balcony Room cause it was oversized, normally would have booked a cheap inside and now I'm stressed.

Has anyone had this happened to them??? What did you do? What can I do?

Thanks
Marcy

Did they book you an inside, oceanview or balcony? Was there a price difference?

From someone in the travel industry, my opinion is this is unacceptable. When you booked the stateroom, it was with the understanding that you were booking 6152. I'm guessing you have the original paperwork stating that is the room you booked. They should have told you upfront that they made a mistake when it happened and prior to you paying in full so you could decide if you wanted to go forward with the booking or not or even choose a different room. To book you in a GTY (with very strict cancellation policies) without your authorization is a major no-no.

I would call back and say you never authorized them to cancel or re-book your cruise and never authorized them to book you in GTY. They basically used your cc without your authorization. If you want to cancel, let them know. This is where their Errors and Omissions insurance comes in. You are the consumer and they made a massive error, they need to come up with something more than $50 OBC.

Just a little clarification - GTY is the same price as reserving a specific stateroom. GTY status is what happens when a certain percentage of room within a category are booked. You can still book the category, but not a specific stateroom.

*GT (IGT, OGT, VGT) is the last minute restricted fares offered (typically after the PIF date). Those are less cost, but you are booking a type of room (Interior, Oceanview, Verandah) and not a category.

But, I agree, the TA made a mistake (a big one), and needs to rectify it. With more than $50.

I'm confused. If they canceled your original cruise and rebooked a new one, you would have a different DCL confirmation number than originally provided, wouldn't you? How did you log in to do your online check in if your original cruise was canceled and new one booked?

I believe it's possible to keep the same reservation number when doing a rebooking. As long as the "new" reservation and the "old" reservation are being handled at the same time.

But the question remains, WHY did the TA cancel and rebook? Maybe, they thought they were getting them a lesser fare? I don't know, but the TA is responsible. Hopefully, the OP can get it in writing that it was their (the TA's) error. And the TA will step up and better their offer of recompense.

I would call DCL and ask them DIRECTLY what the cost of your current fare is listed as on the reservation. I'm curious if the travel agent is claiming mistake, but really, saw a different (lower) rate, cancelled and rebooked and they pocketed the savings. I hope that is not the case, but I am a travel agent (corporate work) and the whole thing sounds very fishy to me.

Also, if you have the confirmation that you are in a specific room, I would be making the agent give you that room...or compensate the difference to have a comparable room, even if its an upgrade. If they truly made a mistake, then the insurance should pay to fix the problem.

this is true. we had to do that for our upcoming cruse.

I do wonder though what would posses the ta to do a rebooking. that would be my question and I would not let it go till I had an answer.

Ask for a supervisor or manager to sort this out. This is not acceptable.

The TA said she is gonna investigate and I will call her back on. Monday to see what can be done.

The TA doesn't know how she cancelled your reservation? Good luck with getting this resolved. Sounds like they realize they screwed up and are going to scramble with DCL to fix it.

That is incredible. I can't believe they did not tell you about it when they did it. I do not think it was a mistake because they would have sent an updated email confirmation with any changes to any reservation.
