What are my chances?

I anticipate closing on a DVC purchase (VWL) by the middle/end of December. We will have points to use for this use year, so I was hoping to make a trip to WDW in march. The plan is to spend 3 nights in Siesta Key (already booked) and then 4 nights (mon-thur) at a DVC villa. Given the fact that I will probably not be able to make a reservation until sometime in January, what are my chances of reserving a 2 bd. villa (any DVC resort) for the middle of March (2009)? I'm asking because lodging in Siesta Key is filling up fast so I probably can't wait until mid january to add 4 days to that stay in the event that there will be no availability in a DVC resort. If are chances of getting 4 days at WDW in March are slim then we will plan on staying the full week in Siesta Key and banking the available points. Your input is greatly appreciated.

March is Spring Break time depending on when in March you're going. I would guess the end of March fills quickly unless many are affected by this economy -- things have been busy every Spring Break I've been there.

Thanks, that is what I was afraid of. Our trip to WDW would be March 16-20 to be exact. It is our spring break.

Yes, I think you'll have trouble for Spring Break week...but you never know. If you are flexible as to resort and room size you may get something.

Out of curiosity, what resorts might I have the best chance of getting with only 3 months prior to arrival?

SSR & OKW are you GOOD bets. Siesta key.... :cloud9: That is a wonderful place. Hope you get to mix up your vacation, but if it has to be all in Siesta Key... well, Oh yes............. nature's wonderful habitat. Don't feed the alligators though. Seriously, people do.

I think 4 days in March is doable, as long as you're not overly picky about where you stay. That being said, if you don't get what you want, I wouldn't be surprised if you got what you want in Sarasota for the other 4 days.

Siesta Key doesn't get a lot of spring breakers -- what we get is snowbirds, and they start heading home at the end of March. If Siesta's full, try the hotels on Lido Key (about 3 miles north) -- I actually like Lido Beach better than Siesta. Beyond that, thus far this year, fewer people have come down, so there seems to be a bit more vacancy (and less traffic -- yay!). Give it a whirl, I think you'll be fine either way.

My boys (4 & 7) would not be happy to have to spend their entire spring break on a boring, white sand beach. They need some Mickey time. Their favorite DVD (especially during the months leading up to our trip) is the WDW travel planner DVD. I'm hoping Disney makes a new one because the two WDW DVD's we have are about worn out! Anyway, I hope we get something so that we can enjoy our perfect spring break experience: beach, baseball, and Mickey Mouse. I really appreciate your answers to my questions. The folks on this board are wonderful.
