What are my best options for a 2007/2008 NY Trip when I have no points left?

We are planning a New Year's trip for next year and want to stay at BWV or BCV. We own at OKW and are out of 2006 points and have 31 2007 points left. Can someone please verify that the options I have listed below are my only options, and are there more cons to one than the another?

a) Points transferred to our OKW account within the next few weeks (which then become OKW points) so we can make an OKW ressie at the 11 month window and hopefully switch resorts at the 7 month window (these could be points from any resort, but once in our account look and act like OKW points).

b) Points transferred into our account within the next few weeks from BCV or BWV owners that we can use to make an 11 month ressie at one of those resorts. This may require extra effort on our part due to the fact that once these points go into our account they look like OKW points and we may have to argue the fact that they should retain their "home resort status" to get this reservation. What if we are refused?

c) Rent the actual reservation from a BCV or BWV owner who can make the ressie for us at the 11 month window. This would require more trust from us to have a ressie "owned" by someone else for the next 11 months.

Now, some specific questions regarding transferring points into my account. We'd like to transfer some into our 2006 account and then bank them, and also transfer some into our 2007 account.

1) To transfer into our 2006 account do they have to come from someone else's 2006 account? In other words, can someone else transfer 2007 points into my 2006 account - so I know what I'm looking for on the rent/trade board.
2) If I do transfer points into my 2006 use year, do they retain the banking deadline of the original points or do they become my June 2006 points and I can bank them according to the banking deadlines of my use year? Example: Someone who has Feb, 2006 Use Year points transfers into my June, 2006 Use Year. Their points would be beyond the point of banking, but could I have them transferred into my account and still bank them according to my deadline? It seems like this is kinda double dipping. I want them to retain the original status so I can make a ressie at that resort, but I want them to assume my banking deadlines.
3) Transferred points can be banked, right?

I hope I've been clear about this and I do appreciate all of your help.

Thanks so much!

Transferred points retain their use year and resort. They do not morph into your resort points with your use year.

Transferred points can be banked. Banked points cannot be transferred.

Have you thought about this option? Buy more points at the resort you want to reserve at 11 months.

I love your suggestion about buying more points. Actually, my DH has given me the green light as far as buyng more points is concerned, however, he wants to wait for the AKL announcement to see what is offered (rumors about a one bedroom for a family of 5). Until then, we are restricted to the 2 bedroom option, which leaves us with the formulas I've already outlined - unless someone can think of something else.

I'm still confused over the banking issue of transferred points. Let's just say I was able to find someone with February 2006 points (I would consider these "distressed points expiring in just 2 months) and unavailable for banking privileges due to their original point status. BUT..........If these were transferred to my June 2006 Use Year, the computer might "think" they were OKW June 2006 points, thus allowing me to bank them using my June Use Year Rules and allowing me to bank them for a June 2007/June 2008 trip (which would include my NYE 2007/2008 trip).

Another BUT................If they did morph into my 2006 Use Year, and I banked them, allowing me to use them until 6/2008 UY, would I be able to use them to reserve at the resort they were originally from? I'm thinking not. If they were banked as OKW points (giving up their original use year info), they would probably give up their Home Resort status as well? And truly become OKW points and totally give up their BCV or BWV home resort status? Or would a CM be able to really tell what was going on here and just give me the ressie, because I've just about totally confused myself and all of you, too?

I'm not trying to cheat the system. But, I don't want to be the one being cheated when renting someone's points. I want to make sure that the points that get put into my account retain their use year and home resort status as far as reservations and banking/borrowing go. If they will revert to my resorts information, I need to know that as well, so I can plan accordingly.
If I were to transfer someone's Feb 2006 points into my account only to find out that I've paid for something I cannot use, my DH would not be very happy!

With all the problems that MS had with morphing points in the near past, they are working very hard to keep it from happening again. If you want someone to transfer you points, you'll need to get points that will work the way they need to and not hope they might morph.

You should not plan or expect that transferred points would morph over to either your use year or to your home resort.

Thus if someone transferred Feb 2006 BWV points into your account, they remain as Feb 2006 BWV points and all reservations and banking rules apply.

They do not become OKW points, nor do they become June 2006 points.

Could you borrow points from your 2008 use year?
Since the reservation is in 2007, after your use year begins, you should be able to do that. And if you are going to buy VAK points later this year, you may be able to bank them into 2008 to replace the ones you borrowed.
Just a idea.

From what I've read on the boards, DVC has unofficially said that 5 can now occupy a 1 bedroom-they just won't provide extra linens and towels (I believe)-don't know if that helps at all

I just rented (transferred) BW points for a F & W reservation. I checked with MS first, as I needed to bank the points into 2007. MS was very clear -- the resort follows the points. However the banking transaction has to be done by hand and can take up to 72 hours. It was faster in my case and I was able to book the BW studio I want for my husband after 1 day. It also took 3 Christmas songs to book the reservation. The MS CM had to convince the computer to "see" the 11 month booking window. Well worth it for us!

A simpler thing than transfering might be to rent the reservation from a member who can book at the 11 month mark you want. That certainly is the simplest solution.

Thank you to all who have replied. I do believe that renting the reservation from another member is the easier way to go. I just need to find someone that I trust from these boards (I have already made a preliminary contact with someone, but will not know for sure my exact dates for another week or two - so not sure if it will pan out).

I also appreciate the info on not counting that the points could "morph" into my points for banking purposes. It sounds like if I have points transferred into my account, I need to plan for them to keep their original status as far as banking deadlines and reservation windows go. This is the way it SHOULD be, and I guess even it it takes a little extra time with MS, it is the way I need to plan for. It they "morph", they morph, but I should plan that they will not morph when looking to rent from someone.

Thanks again to all who've replied.
