What are good meals to make in room for a parks trip?

We are heading back to WDW for the first week in oct and I want to try and make most of our meals in the room. But I'm drawing a blank on what would be good quick meals and the logistics of trying to feed the kids in the room when we are also trying to be in the parks as much as possible. LOL

Any ideas or tips from those who eat mostly in room?

TIA!!! :goodvibes

Our trip in April I made tacos, chicken breasts (sliced thin in a skillet) with one of those noodle packets for a side and breakfast for dinner (eggs and bacon) all in under 30 minutes each. I also made a meatloaf on our first night (as we usually stay in on the first night) and we had leftovers for another day's lunch!!

Woot for full kitchens!!!

I have baked a whole chicken before, and we ate it one night and have enough left over for sandwiches the next.

Spaggetti sauce (I have even brought a tub of frozen sauce in the checked luggage)

Mac n Cheese and hot dogs

But towards the end of the week, we tend to fall back on frozen pizza's and sandwiches. lol Oh oh at Conch Flats at OKW they no longer have the stoffers frozen pizza breads!! (or any brand for that matter)

We always do spaghetti w/a salad on the side and frozen Texas Toast garlic bread. It is now a vacation tradition for us. Our other stand-bys are turkey or beef burritos/tacos and chicken stir fry. We also sometimes get fried chicken pieces at Publix and add a salad/veggies. Publix also has great sushi so we'll sometimes do that for a meal.

When we bring our crock-pot our meals get a bit more elaborate, but the above are our regulars when we don't have it along.

wait. . . those appliances are real?? :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Seriously, though we are planning to use them to for our upcoming trip. So I am also interested in others responses.

I was wondering what those things were between my 1bd. and 2bd. :rotfl2:

Us too! We do half cooking and half eating out. But we always have a spaghetti night with Tex toast! Some other easy fixes for me ..sloppy joes, baked chicken breast with baked potato (just marinate with Italian dressing and throw in the oven), grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup....

Meals we have enjoyed....

Lasagne or pasta night - with garlic bread and salad
chicken and rice casserole
BLT's
Pickens' (these are our favourites made up of leftovers, a veggie tray, meat and cheese tray, crackers buns or bread, and some spreads.

I find the kids don't get enough fruit and veggies at the parks so load up on these!

We did a couple Bertoli meals that you just microwave. We did a Stouffers Lasagna with Texas Toast one night. We usually will do salad with chicken on it once. The other nights were chili dogs and a frozen pizza night. That left us a couple of evenings of dining out. Also, we ordered our groceries from Garden Grocer and these were all on their list.

We are leaving on 2 weeks and here is our menu we have planned

Sunday (checkin): hamburgers on the grill, I also plan on cooking brats to eat for lunch the rest of the week
Monday: spaghetti, salad, garilc bread
Tuesday: eat out (Narcoossee)
Wednesday: Tacos
Thursday: baked potato bar

Lunches are going to be sandwiches, brats, pizza, and left overs

We have one day planned with no parks so we'll make a big breakfast that morning, but all other mornings will be cereal, scrambled eggs, and bagels

Don't forget the grills!

You can buy Match-Light Charcoal at your resort and, after the igniter has burned off, you can do steaks, chicken, burgers, corn, potatoes, etc.

We almost always use the grills once or twice each trip.

great ideas! and I totally forgot there are grills available too! I'll have to get DH to cook up some chicken and steaks. ;)

Is Publix or Walmart going to be my best bets for decent groceries? I went to the store across from DTD and it was pitiful and really expensive.

Walmart: cheaper, but more limited selection
Publix: really good quality foods, Boarhead meats and cheeses in deli
deli will also do holiday dinners with turkey, roast beef etc.
good fried and rotisserie chicken.

We like shopping at Winn-Dixie. I signed up for the store card to be able to get the advertised specials. I just keep the card with my vacation things and use it when we go to Orlando.

Winn-Dixie has very good roasted whole chickens.

Thanks!! Publix it is then! LOL

Are there grills at each DVC resort?

Thanks!

Sandra

I've only stayed at OKW (our home resort) and SSR.

They each have grills by the quiet pools. Turtle Mound pool at OKW has two, if I remember correctly.

As for the other DVC's, I defer to others........................

We're going out for most of our dinners, but on the two nights we are definitely staying in, we've got spaghetti planned for one and BLTs planned for the other. (And now I'm wondering if I'll ever be able to eat a BLT in the BLT! :rolleyes1 ) The BLT dinner is planned for the day we have tea at the Grand Floridian. It sounded like a relatively light and easy to prepare meal after all that clotted cream!
