What are 'developer' points?

I have read some posts that refer to developer points ( as in incentives) what are these???

They are extra points given to you to use during your first year of membership. They do have several restrictions on them such as:
- You can only book at the 7 month window, regardless of resort.
- They cannot be banked or borrowed.

Don't forget that this also means construction will be happening during your stay.

Disney (the developer) owns a whole lot of points - both for units that have been built and not yet sold, as well as from units they've aquired through forclosure, ROFR etc. They often give those points out as incentives for folks to buy, but usually put some restritions on how they can be used.
