Yes, that's a good way to describe it. A giant group of people wearing black that go on a specific day.

You might want to mostly stay in DCA for that day, but all in all they will be noticeable but make up a very small part of the day's guests.

There are several sub-events that are organized by outside Goth groups. The day in the park is essentially a large meetup. You will see lots of people dressed in somewhat eccentric outfits and LOTS of black.

That's about it.

Crowds? Well, it's a large meetup, so, yes it adds to the numbers, but it's not during a super busy time, so it's not as if it's adding thousands on an already insanely crowded day.

Would I avoid it? Nah. Would I pick a different day if it's very easy planning-wise? Probably.

Hope this helps,
Dreams

some of the outfits that the ladies wear look vintage and some of them are kinda cool looking.

That actually sounds kinda fun. I've noticed in recent years that Disneyland attracts goths. Seems kind of ironic, no?

I have noticed in the past, that the "big meet up" seems to occur in New Orleans Square. At least, that is what it seems like.

I notice that too, and yes a bit ironic!
Especially since Pirates and new new Alice in Wonderland movies came out.

Bats Day is a day when goths (and others into the scene...there are lots of subgenres, too many to list here) meet up at the Park; here's a link to the website: http://batsday.net/ There are events beforehand, such as a Haunted Mansion-themed ball and an event (the Black Market) where vendors of goth clothes, jewelry, etc. display/sell their wares. (the events are held at a nearby hotel, not at the Park)

I've been to Bats Day several times & it was lots of fun. I don't know what the crowds are like now that they've moved the event to spring rather than summer, but when it was held in the summer the Park was no more crowded than a regular summer weekend. The main differences will be that there'll be alot of people dressed up (many gothic people are HUGE Disney fans...no, really!) and it'll be crowded at the carousel and at the Haunted Mansion during the group pictures. IIRC there might be a third meeting place for the group pictures, but those are the two that I remember offhand.

This sounds really cool, do they do it in Florida too???

My understanding is that some have tried to arrange similar meets, but nothing even remotely similar to Bat Days at Disneyland has ever materialized.

Oh that's really cool! I love how universal Disney can be/is! I might be there those days this year too, depending on when Dh deploys. That would be cool to see.

One of the funniest experiences I have had at DLR was during BAT days.

In DCA they were preforming "Drawn to the Magic" in the street in front of the Annimation building. At the back of the crowd I was standing next to a fully decked out Bat (Thigh high boots, cinched waist, black hat). She was a tall very good looking young lady (19-20) with heavy makeup acting oh so very cool. :cool2:

Then Cinderella came out... She went nuts as if she just saw a Rock Star, pointing, yelling OMG, and looked as if she was going to cry. Just like a shy little 4 year old girl, she slowly approached Cindy for an autograph after the performance. I don't think she was on anything, just suprised. She was changed from a cool BAT back into a little girl by the Disney magic!! :confused3

I loved bat days last year! I do not participate but as we're only a short drive away we headed over to see it on purpose. I must say, I loved some of the outfits and everyone we talked to was SO nice and polite. I didn't notice an overwhelming number of them and crowds were not bad at all. I woudln't avoid it for any reason, it added a little flavor to the day lol I think I will plan to stop by for a few hours during bat days again because I am a people watcher and really enjoyed seeing them there. :)

What a great story. Another example that shows that the magic of Disney lives in each of us.

Hi Guys,

This is Noah K the Founder/Executive Producer of Bats Day in the Fun Park.

Just to let you know the park isnt really any more crowed than a normal day at Disneyland so you do not need to worry to much. The most in attendance that has ever been on the Spooky Trip to Disneyland, this year Sunday May 8th, was about 5000 people. So I would not worry too much about the crowds.

The event used to be in the summer at the end of August, but then it started becoming too hot for a lot of us so before it moved to its new annual month of May, for the 10th event we had it in November for a special year. Now the event is May.

The 3 group photos opportunities will be:

Early Afternoon - Cinderella's Castle
Mid Afternoon - King Aurthur's Carousel, for the Baby Bats (children 13 & under) & their parents
Evening - Haunted Mansion for group shots in front of the Mansion.

The times have not been confirmed yet since we are still working out the details for them. The times will be posted on the Bats Day website about a month before the event.

The Bats Day in the Fun Park weekend is catered to the Dark Subculture. As someone else posted there are a lot of sub sub-genres within the Bats Day group. This can range from Goth, Deathrock, RivetHed, Rockabilly, Psychobilly, Death Metal, Steampunk, Victorian, Halloween couture, but mainly a love for the Disney Parks.

Lastly, when the event first started 13 years ago, it was just a park meet to Disneyland. Now the event is the entire weekend with lots of other things to do than just the Disneyland trip on the last day.

Starting this Monday Jan 31, tickets will be going on sale to all of the events at the Bats Day website in the "Event Tickets" section.

The hotel events sold out last year and will most likely sell out again.

Here is the schedule for the weekend:

Friday May 6th, 2011
The Nightmare before Bats Day - Dinner Meet & Greet
only 70 tickets will be available

Saturday May 7th, 2011
The Bats Day Black Market (Free Admission)
The Bats Day Happy Haunts Swinging Wake: A Costumed Celebration
This is a party for all the ghosts and spirits. No mortals allowed. You must come dressed character from the Haunted Mansion Attraction or Movie

Sunday May 8th, 2011
Bats Day in the Fun Park: The Spooky Trip to Disneyland

We even have discount tickets to Disneyland that you can get through us in the "Event Ticket" section, that can be purchased now.

If you would like to see photos from the 2010 event, we have over 2000 photos from the entire weekend in the "Photos" section on the Bats Day website.

So I hope this may have answered some of your questions about the event.

Hope you come and check us out.

Thanks Pixiewings.

I have actually been on here for a while. Manly just reading and not really post, but this time I figured I would come out of my spider hole and actually post something.

We are very excited with our new event for this year

The Bats Day Happy Haunts Swinging Wake: A Costumed Celebration

The reason for the this event this year is pretty simple. Normally we have another event on Saturday, The Bats Day Ghoulish Gala or Dark Park, but it seems that there have been some cranky spirits, ghosts, and ghouls that are upset that they have never been acknowledged in the last 13 years that the Bats Day event has been happening. They feel that they are apart of this Dark Subculture and it is about time that we show some respect.

So the spirits, ghosts and ghouls have decided to take over. They have told us that no mortals are allowed to attend the Bats Day Happy Haunts Swinging Wake so I think the best way mortals can get around this is by dressing up as your favorite spirit. A safe way is to dress up as your favorite character from the Haunted Mansion Attraction of Movie. There are other ideas on the website.

There are more details on the official Bats Day Happy Haunts Swinging Wake site

Thanks again
Noah K

I couldnt figure out what you meant about alsjuggatettes at first. Does it have something to do with ICP?

I had to think about what you were talking about. I am not into ICP myself but I have some friends that are.

I am in my 50s and I was in Disneyland in 2009 during Bat days. I had read info on the Days before my trip but did not feel the need to change my plans. As another poster indicated the groups seemed to be the most prominant in the New Orleans Square area and the group was not so large that theyhad an impact on the lines for the attractions. The groups were there just having a good time just like everyone else.
