OK, we're now 30 days from our first trip to the fort. I just need to say Thank You to all of the regulars on the Camping board, the things I've learned have been invaluable in planning our trip. Now, I just keep thinking I'm forgetting something.....

Reservations made, and package paid off.......check
Notes about site requests on reservations.......check (Thanks Rhonda)
ADRs made at a few different restaurants........check (Thanks Rhonda, again)
Magical Express reservations made for inlawas...check
Driving routes figured out..............................check (Thanks bradisGoofy and U.P.North for discussions about this one)
Ordered Disney Rewards card to use the points...check
Readjusted hitch and added Dual Cams for sway.....check
Found all the DIS threads about where to find groceries...check

The park plans are coming together and the kids are really starting to get excited. They can't wait to try that new slide.
Even my DW's parents are getting excited about it (their 1st trip)...

Now I'm hoping I don't get too nervous about towing that far...Never really gone further than about 2 hours at a time.
I don't think the next 30 days are going to go by fast enough.

Any other reminders for me?

Howdee! I see you are towing and have your driving trip planned. You may have this already, here is my best trip tip: "The Next Exit". This book is an RVer's best friend . It gives all available stores, gas, rest stops etc at every exit on every interstate highway. All RV friendly gas stations are in red print. By knowing my gas milage and tank size I figured my range per tank, then I found the RV friendly gas stops along my interstate route. For me, I figured a conservative 300 mile range with my 44 gal tank ( actual 9mpg x 40 gal = 360 miles). Then I found and noted the best gas stop about 300 miles from home, then around 300 miles from that, and so on all the way to Disney. I noted all my planned gas stops on a sheet of paper. Then I noted all of the rest areas between each gas stop. I listed the gas stops and rest stops in an orderly fashon. I highlighted the gas stops. So while driving 1040 miles I could quickly glance at my plan and know which exit to take for my planed gas stops or any needed rest stops. Since all exits are listed by mile marker its easy to be able to tell anyone in the vehicle how long it will be before we stop again. And I didn't have to worry about the gas station being rv accessible, those listed in red are good. Using this book to plan all my gas stops in advance removed all the stress of towing the long trip.

Yippie! Glad I was able to help someone for a change instead of getting help! When is your trip date? We will be there June 13 -26. Can hardly wait now!! Have a good trip and drive safe...Oh and if you are planning on being there around June 13th, we just found out the space shuttle is scheduled to launch at 7:19am the 13th. We may be altering our trip plans a bit to get to where we can see it from a distance. But we are really hoping for a few day launch delay so we can just get in the car and drive east until we can see it. That would be amazing!! Here is a link to the launch schedule:

Take it from a Floridian....stay away from KSC on launch day. You will end up in traffic for 4-6 hours. KSC is wall to wall people on launch day, they have very limited restaurant choices, and the food is poor & more expensive than Disney. Then, there's always the chance the launch will be scrubbed at the last minute.

Just stay at FtW & view it from the beach. You won't get the "earth rumbling" effects like you do at KSC, but you will have a good view & lots less aggrivation.

If you really want to be close - you might consider going to Jetty Park at Port Canaveral and camping there the night before or renting a hotel room for one night if you don't want to break camp. Because the launch is so early in the morning, you won't be able to get into the actual park before 8am on launch day - so you might wish to reserve a hotel and stay overnight the night before. Again....be prepared for the launch to be scrubbed. See if Rhonda or Scott can help you find a reasonable hotel at Port Canaveral. Jetty Park is just a fun place to spend the day - and the launch would be a bonus!

I have to second Debbie's suggestion- unless you plan to spend a few days on the beach and going to KSC one of the days of your stay-watch it from the ft. You can see it.

Nope, we knew we wouldn't get to KSC to see it...What a zoo that would be. We didn't know how well you could see it from the Fort so we figured we would head east and try to find some place that got us fairly close but minus all the traffic headaches.

I don't have a lot of time,,so I skipped reading the fine fiends answers to you,,but if no one has already mentioned,,PLEASE don't forget to pack your fishing poles! When you may have spare time to relax,,you just may want to wet a line along a canal, the lake, or one of the ponds.

Does this book list RV campgrounds too? If not, it still sounds like a great book to have but if so... I'm buying it RIGHT NOW.
