What am I doing wrong???

I had a package booked for ASMusic payed in full and was downgraded. I was upset and ask to speak to the manager. She offered the following: refund what I payed for pref. room, free fridge, and $100 room credit. I then agreed to take the room. Sorry this happened to you too!!

I should have spoken with a manager the next day but thought what's the point. Has this happened to anyone else or is it just me???
It's too bad you opted not to pursue the issue. While none of what happened is your fault in any way (before anyone starts flaming me for picking on the OP), talking to a manager, or even someone at the Front Desk, the next morning likely could have resolved the matter.

I do believe there were no preferred rooms left - for whatever reason - when you checked in at 10 PM. I'd be extremely skeptical if Cast Members tried to convince me in the morning that nobody was checking out of any preferred room that day. We're talking, I think, 864 rooms (calculated in my head, not necessarily accurate :)).

The only thing I can see as remotely wrong would be the combination of your check-in time and the fact you were not paid in full.

Disney may or may not do this, but other hotels would consider your reservation cancelled after a certain time. Disney may have considered you a 'no show',
Not until 6 AM the day following the reservation date.

When we wre checking out of the 60's buidling the housekeeper told us that they were not checking any new people in to that building due to painting. We were commenting on how many people were checking out that day and she said that this is why.

There is no way I would have left that front desk without speaking to someone in authority. You (the OP) did nothing wrong. Plenty of guests arrive late in the day, plenty of guests don't pay the entire amount until they check in.
Okay...perhaps they did have some rehab going on. But it would seem to me that there are a lot of preferred rooms..not just in 60's. If they (POP room assigners) knew guests were coming in late, that had book preferred rooms, the least they could have done is put you in a standard room that was next to the preferred areas.
Frankly, I don't 'get' the whole preferred vs standard issue, especially at POP. I've been in rooms there that have been closer to the main driveway into the resort, before you get to the security shack, than to the food court and it hasn't been more than a 5 min walk to the main areas. My one preferred room location was abysmal...will never book preferred at POP again.
But you really do need to address these things, with a manager, while there. If you don't get satisfaction, then take names, dates and times....then send a letter to Disney with your comlaints.

Wow, Disneyfan, that stinks, but I think it's just bad luck and nothing that you are doing.

Do you go to Pat's or Geno's in South Philly and get told that they ran out of Cheez Whiz and friend onions, too? :rotfl:

I prefer enemy onions myself!! So much more satisfying!!!:rotfl::rotfl:

A request is not just a request when your PAYING for it. JMHO

This case wasn't a request, it was a reserved room. I think there is a big difference. They should have been given a little compensation to make up for it.

It was interesting that the CM mentioned that they usually upgrade people. I wonder what would have happened if you had said "Great I'll take an upgrade at any Moderate, please". We were at POP in March and had requested a certain location. We didn't get that location so I spoke with the concierge desk and they found us a room where we had requested. They told me they would rather have people come and ask for a change instead of being unhappy. They were very accomodating (no pun intended). We got an awesome room.

Yeah, you and CLEVEROCKS are way offbase here if you're referring to the original poster. A preferred room isn't a request any more than is club level or a suite. It is a seperate category of room which can be BOOKED specifically - not requested - because you pay more for it.
I'd be shocked if I got downgraded; I've never heard of such a thing. If they didn't have any preferred rooms available, I'd expect an upgrade to a mod or Saratoga Springs or something. Personally, the solution the other poster got - free fridge plus $100 room credit would probably be sufficient for me, but if I was relying on that preferred location for any particular reason, that might not even do it.

768 Preferred rooms / 2,112 Standard rooms. Just over 25% Preferred (vs., say, All Star Movies which is 60% Preferred).

More likely the CM meant upgrade within the resort. Of course, even though it was just, really, an offhand comment - the CM probably shouldn't have made it :)

Respectfully, a more likely to happen change of resorts in this case would be to a Value resort with Preferred rooms available.

I've never been downgraded before when we stay at Disney, but I went with my mom, aunt, and a friend and stayed at the Regal Sun, one of the hotels that aren't owned by Disney by Downtown Disney, and they gave us a room where someone else was staying in. Thank God, there was no one in the room at the time, otherwise it would have been awkward. We went back to the check in desk, they apologized and gave us a Downtown Disney view room.:goodvibes

The first time you were downgraded did you still have a balance as well? I'm wondering if they gave away the preferred rooms to packages paid in full?
Just a thought. Hopefully that is not the case as that is just not right.

That's actually what I was thinking. Or perhaps someone who booked standard but asked to pay for an upgrade while checking in grabbed up your room.

Good point; that makes a lot more sense. I just remember seeing a series of posts from last summer, I think, where people were being upgraded from AllStars to Saratoga Springs. No, I guess I wouldn't expect an upgrade like that, but I would certainly expect SOMETHING besides a downgrade and an apology.

Oh, I agree, BostonRob. At the very least, some type of compensation for the first night and a GUARANTEE to move the OP to the right location the next day. I would be skeptical hearing that none of the 768 Preferred rooms would become available.

This is a little crazy to me. I mean sure if you request a view of the main pool or fireworks view or something in that nature, this makes sense. But to say that a room at a particular resort is not guaranteed??? Does that mean, I can book Coronado Springs arrive and they can say sorry but we have moved you to POR? No I don't think so. IMO, if you are booked to a particular resort or paying for a particular room category, it is what you should be getting. No I do not go to Disney for a resort, but I do expect to be in the one I paid for unless notified prior of some big reason for the switch.

Before (Mickey's Got your Money) I would have spoken with a manager, they do help out. BUT....now that your home, I would definately call and speak with customer service. You won't get anything except maybe an apology, but you will feel better.
I too had a horrible experience, but it was with the Grand Floridian in 2000 - our room was flooded the first night of our stay. (Some kids playing with matches in the higher level flood- cause the sprinkers to go off). Grand Floridian staff didn't do anything for us, except dry out the room (They didn't even offer to wash and dry our clothing that was wet due to the flooding). We complained, they did nothing. I called and wrote when I returned home, and still nothing. Swore I would never stay at the "Flagship" as they were less than impressive with their customer service.

So far, we have been lucky with the wonderful service of the values.

This happened to us at CSR. I paid for a waterview room and was assigned a standard room at check-in (with the price difference reimbursed). However, the CM did not point this out to me...I figured it out when he showed me the room location on the map. He said the resort was full and if we did not like the room location he could move us to a different resort. Well, the room was on the first floor overlooking the lion fountains (my favorite fountain) so I was okay with it. I considered moving to a different resort for a few seconds (I probably could have got a deluxe but I will never know)...but decided it was just easier to stay put.

I just thought it was funny that the CM never informed me that I was downgraded! Did he think I wouldn't notice? Of course maybe that fountain view IS considered waterview???? ;)
