What age does the princess fascination wear off?

Just to add to my last reply...even though she was over the princesses the excitement of WDw has never worn off. She is 11 and still gets giddy when we're heading out to a trip. She may not want to wait in line for Cindy, but she loves to see one randomly walk by.

Depends upon the child, as mentioned.

Daughter just turned 8 last month, and loves princesses. Still has a fabulous princess room, plays with her dolls and loves to get autographs and eat with princesses.

There is no rule about age, with any characters, so this threads always fascinate me. There is a world full of people who think all of us Disney lovers are nuts, and then there are all of Disney lovers - there is no age limit!

If you want to go when your DD still BELIEVES in the magic of the princesses, the sooner the better. By six your DD will still LIKE/LOVE the princesses but she will probably be asking/telling you that she knows they're girls dressed up.

That is one of the reasons why I'm so glad I starting bringing my kids when they were 3 and 1 (yes, even though I know they won't remember it). There is a magic at that age that is wonderful to behold and as much as we all still love going I'm getter sadder each trip as the magic starts to give way to reality.

For DD12, she was done with princesses by age 8. I remember buying tickets for a Pirate & Priness party. I was so excited and asked her which princess costume she wanted. She looked at me like I had 6 heads and said, "I don't want to be a princess, I want to be a pirate." It was a sad day for me.

That being said, she still LOVES going to WDW and she still enjoys meeting other characters and going to character meals, she's just not into princesses anymore.

I don't think this matters at all. Our kids knew at 2 that they are actors dressed up as charcters, yet they still believe. Really, one is not indicative of the other...my kids love the magic still, yet they are very analytical and inquisitive and knew that people were in those costumes from a very young age!

My DD is 17. She and I are still planning on major character time in the parks next month. My DSs could care less most of the time, though. They're 14 and 11. (Although they did request Chef Mickey's last summer :rolleyes1 )

The change now, though, is she's an actor and she likes to see what they'll do. Her favorites are Alice and the Mad Hatter-- but they are way more fun at DL.

Thanks for the great responses! You've reassured me that I can probably wait a year. I went yearly growing up so I plan to take her many times but I worry if we go too often my DH will get burned out so maybe three years between trips will be ok!

I was wondering the same thing. Our last (her first) trip she was 3.5 and she was/is ALL about the princesses. She eats, sleeps and breathes them. When we got back I of course started thinking about our next trip and DH said 5 years and I was like "ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!! We have to go again while DD still believes in the princesses!" lol.

I haven't settled on when our next trip will be but it will definitely be sometime between the time when she is 4.75 - 5.5 years old, so I think (hope) we'll still be good with the princesses. I don't foresee her princess obsession waning any time soon.

I'm 22 and I still want to meet the Princesses..... My kids are still little (oldest is 3) so I'm not really sure but I know my 16, 11, 8 and 6 year old cousins still love them.

At 5, my oldest DD was on a princess hunt - had to meet them all. She liked them, but never was gaga over them. In fact, at BBB, she picked a Tink costume instead of a princess one. And she knew that Mushu was a person in a costume (but that's the real Mulan, right Mom? So cute.)

Anyway, at 6.5 she wasn't so into it, but her cousins were with us and it was their first trip and my younger DD was 3.5 and super into it. But without that, I don't think we would have done much that was specifically princess.

Now for our upcoming trip she will be turning 8 on the trip - we are huge character people, so we will be meeting Rapunzel and Tiana and any princes that we can find. But she wouldn't be caught dead in a princess costume.

I'd recommend going at 5. Even then, it may not be as magical.

My DD9 grew out of them between our August '09 and November '10 trips. She still likes the fairies, though. She got more into Mickey and Minnie, so it's all good.

My DD4 LOVES them.

My girly girl DD is 6.5, and she's not as into the Princesses anymore. She's a tomboy girly girl though. Fairies are much more appealing to her. Not that she still doesn't like the Princesses, but they're not as Super Awesome anymore.
