What age did your teen start wearing make up?

Makeup is one thing but beware of eyebrow plucking. You can screw them up for life....

Can you elaborate? My young DD (age almost 3) will have eyebrows that we are pretty sure will need to be thinned when she gets older and I have no idea how this works since I've never had to do this.

I think I started wearing make-up when I was about 12 but, my mom never had any restrictions on it when I was a child just as long as I didn't look like a clown. I do the same thing with my DD13, she is going into 9th grade (High School) in September and really only likes to wear eyeliner and lipgloss when she feels like taking the time to apply it. She started wearing it last year when she was 12 but, really isn't that into it. I never told her when she was allowed, I just told her that if she wanted me to show her the right way to put it on i would be happy to help and she did want me to teach her how to apply eyeliner and blush. She hates foundation, eye shadow and mascara. My only rule with make-up for DD is that she not look like a clown or a hooker. The hooker rule also applies to clothes. :)

I think probably 12 years old is early enough, that's when I started wearing makeup. I have a 10.5 yr old who likes to experiment with mascara and eyeliner, but I don't let her wear it out of the house.

My 8 yr old is going to need her eyebrows groomed, but I am definately not touching them until she is at least 10 yrs old. It is hard not to mess with them now but I know nobody's really noticing them but me at this point.

I'm not sure what the poster meant- maybe a caution about how easy it is to really overpluck as you try to get them "right."

I recommend taking her to a really good professional the first time. A professional can shape them and thin them so that they look natural. It's then very easy to keep them looking good by just plucking the strays. You can then have them done professionally every so often, maybe for really special occasions. My DD14 had hers done the first time at 11 for her first school dance and then I think just once or twice since then. For me eyebrows are like shaving, there is no *right* age. It should be done when a young girl begins to feel self-conscious about her uni-brow, bushy brows, or excess hair. I like threading but my DD14 finds waxing to be quicker and less painful.

I think I spent all of 6th grade begging my mother to pluck my eyebrows. Finally she relented the summer before 7th grade, about a week before sshool started. I remember loving them but freaking out because my face was very tan from a recent beach vacation and the part where she plucked them was white...tan lines on my eyebrows! I remember trying to get sun on my face to fill in the tan lines before school started.

Now a days I get them waxed at my salon, although I do have to pluck them somewhat in between waxings.

My daughter will need hers done, I'm sure. Right now she's only 8, so I have a while before I have to deal with it.

My daughter has just started hounding me about wearing make up! She will be in 7th grade, thats how old I was, so I guess I'm OK with it. She's allowed some gloss, a little eye liner, maybe some light eye shadow. As long as she doesnt look loke a clown or a hooker I can deal. (my husband, well thats another story ! )

DD started at 11/6th grade.

I figured she was old enough to get blemishes, then she was old enough to be able to cover them up to feel more confident. We started out slow, but by the end of the year she wore what she wanted. I still guide her choices and emphasize that makeup is to hide flaws/accentuate your good points and should be as natural as possible. I had one Bobbie Brown book and bought the one for teens. She really emphasizes a natural look. DD used those to get started.

Before that we had her brows done professionally, but just to clean them up - she inherited her dad's full brows. Again, she was old enough for it to bother her, so we felt it was time to do something.

Luckily, she also inherited thick, dark lashes so she only uses liner/mascara on the bottom lid - you would think she applied it on the top lid as well. She really likes the dark look on her eyes - that's her "style". I just make sure it isn't too bad before she goes out the door.

ETA: the only down side: she was recently asked for ID at a restaurant that offered college discounts!!! It isn't just the makeup, people have thought she was older for some time (she takes dance classes with high school girls and they thought she was their age!), but the makeup doesn't help!

Someone mentioned Bobbie Brown make up book...Any other recommeds?

I honestly never learned to do make up and I would love to learn to do the eye liner thing and thought it would be a great thing to learn with my DDs.
