What age did your children start wearing deodorant?

I am not sure if my 10 year old nephew has started to use deodorant yet.

I was probably 13 or 14 before I needed to use deodorant, and my first period didn't happen till I was 15. My sister was similar in ages for the firsts I had as well, but she was a gymnast, and I wasn't athletic at all.

My 7 yr old DD started having days when she was absolutely foul smelling this past year. I could smell her when she walked in the door! After making sure that she was washing properly (she showers herself), I consulted her pediatrician, and he said yes, this is common. We started her on Teen Spirit, and with the last tube, I got her Tom's (no aluminum). She would forget sometimes, and it wasn't every day she needed it. I actually started tracking it, and it was clearly hormonal, it was the same time each month. It was not like it was a hot day, or a day when she had PE either.

She's been so much fun this summer with her attitude, I swear she has PMS all the time. It's tough too, because we held our triplets back a year, so she'll most likely go through adolescent changes before other girls in her class.

Ok quick Biology lesson here...

rBGH doesn't effect the human body. It can't! you see there are these things, on the outside of cells that are protein receptors that can tell where a cell, hormone etc came from and if it's theirs. if it isn't their own, or doesn't have the correct structure the cell ignores it. The fact that BOVINE growth hormone is BOVINE means that it is essentially inert in the human body. Cells cannot recognize it and therefore it can't effect them...

Agree, you hear this all the time but has it been proven? I have also read that one of the reasons for earlier maturity is that fact that our diets are so high in fat and people have more body fat than ever before.

My kids all needed deodorant by the start of 5th grade, age 10 or so.
My older girls started their periods at 12, not too much different from myself and their aunts.
We buy hormone free milk now but didn't for many years.

I think deodorant at age 7 is very young. I don't know anyone personally who has needed it that young.

I agree that 7 is very young to start wearing deo, but my DD was that age when she started to need it. It was not an option to go without, it was a very noticeable smell. I'll never forget that because I had myself so stressed out over the fact that she was that age and needed deo, and something must not be right. She didn't need it everyday, still does not, only if it is hot and she is very active. We use teen spirit as well. I don't know why it happened so early, I suppose you could get different reasons from different sources, but I do know it saddens me to see her "grow up" so fast. :confused3
