What about Tokyo Disney??

Disney does not own the resorts in Japan and they are not part of the DVC Disney Collection.

Hmmm, that surprises me. I would have thought they owned at least one resort if they bothered to build a theme park there.

We have never been and will probably never go to the far East, but I just wondered.

I don't think they even own the theme park--at least not all of it. This was recently discussed in another thread, and I don't recall the concensus.

Yes, there's a Tokyo Disneyland Resort, with two theme parks, two Disney-branded hotels, five other official hotels, a shopping village, and a monorail. The resort is owned by the Oriental Land Company, which pays a percentage to The Walt Disney Company. See http://www.tokyodisneyresort.co.jp/index_e.html

We can't use DVC points to stay at any of the Tokyo Disneyland hotels. It would be great if the Disney Ambassador Hotel and the Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta were on the Disney Collection list, but for whatever reason, DVC has not worked out such an arrangement with those hotels.

It really shouldn't matter that the Tokyo Disneyland Resort is not owned by The Walt Disney Company. After all, Disneyland Paris is also a separate company (although The Walt Disney Company owns a minority interest), but the hotels there are on the Disney Collection list. And none of the Concierge Collection hotels are owned by Disney, but DVC has worked out business arrangements so the DVC members can stay at them using points.

More likely, it's just that tourism to Japan from North America and Europe, where most DVC members live, is rare -- espcially tourism to visit Disney parks in Japan. (In comparison tourism across the Atlantic Ocean in both directions is very common.)

Tokyo Disneyland & Disney Sea are owned by OLC (Oriental Land Company)

Disney sold the rights to OLC for a lump sum & % of sales etc.. used the money to build EPCOT & turned themselves around many years ago. Disney didn't have the money to build the Tokyo Disneyland - so they struck a deal with OLC.

I export building materials & sold some material to contractors on the Disney Sea project. Learned all about Tokyo Dinseyland etc..

My wife is Japanese, I lived there for 6 yrs & I was bummed to find out we cannot even trade points to Interval & stay at the Tokyo Disneyland - which costs more than WDW - tons more.

I hope 1 day that Disney will work out some arrangement so that DVC points can be used as they can be used at several of the Disneyland Paris Resort. A trip to Tokyo alone would be pricey and it would help to minimize the overall cost of such a trip if you could use points.

I have used points to stay in Disneyland California at all 3 of their hotels and plan to use the DVC points in Paris Disneyland Hotel in October. I will also being using points to stay at the Royal Garden Hotel in London after our Disney Paris stay.

Our guide (who's been with DVC forever) told us that every year DVC approaches Oriental Land Company and every year they're turned down.
