What About Testing Positive Before Returning?

Question for you though. Why did it apply to people with a negative test. Also how do you get home if you rapid test and test positive but had someone drive you or took public transportation to your test?

Because it was two weeks ago before the new rules took effect You no longer have to quarantine if you test negative and are fully vaccinated. If you test POSITIVE, that’s a different story. US has already said that if you are abroad and test positive, you cannot come home. Canada hasn’t been as clear. I’m just suggesting you be prepared for anything. And that’s coming from a travel agent. I genuinely hope you have a wonderful trip and return with zero issues!

Vaccinatsd Canadians coming back haven't had to quarantine after coming back to Canada since early July. It is also against our Charter of rights and freedoms to deny a entry to a Canadian citizen

Don’t know what to tell you, but I know many who have had issues upon returning. Some with positive results, some with negative. Won’t debate about why or why not it happened, but it happened. Best of luck!

Good question. Specially since a cab driver is allowed to drive you across the border. I already have a car service booked for if I test negative and they advertise for driving people to their homes in Canada all the way to Toronto from the Buffalo Airport.

We budgeted for an air B and B or vacation rental. Luckily my husband and I work remotely so we can swing it, assuming we are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms (we are both vaccinated).

We are leaving in a few days and have decided to shorten our stay to minimize this possibility even more while allowing a vacation. A 6 day trip means we are testing on Day 3....less than 72 hours after departure for a virus with an incubation period of 4 days... we are also vaccinated, wearing N95s and switched from WDW to DL.

You do realise that you are basically exploiting a loophole. You’re timing your test and your trip to evade a positive test, boarding a plane when you could very well be positive, and finally; knowingly possibly bringing the delta variant into Canada.

Because if one tests POSITIVE, you are suppose to be quarantine away from ALL other people. Despite vaccinations. Unless you’re in Alberta

In Toronto there are specific published protocols by the city about taking ride share and taxis when you are positive. It is not recommended or ideal, of course (as they state), but you can do it.

The Government of Canada website has specific posted rules about crossing the border if positive for Canadian citizens. So the Canadian Border must follow those published rules. You can run through the questions as if you were positive and see the results and what you can do. They do not want you on public transportation (understandably) but private transport is your option. Taxis, Uber, your spouse's car etc. are all considered private transportation.

We will also be purchasing a few BinaxNow to test once arrived in Canada and a few days later before visiting family and friends. They are 25$ for 2 tests at Walgreens and can be done at home! Added layers of protection.

I’m interested in this test binaxnow - before sending our DS 12 back to sports when we return (just in case) - you can just purchase this at Walgreens?
We are also going to DL now as I’m sure you know

The test kits can be purchased in store at Walgreens. They have some available at the one on Harbour near Disneyland right now! Their accuracy obviously does not replace a PCR, but they have been tested and vetted as being pretty good. Great idea for your DS!

Lol! No problem! So many new things to consider... We plan on stopping at Walgreens at the start of our trip. We are going to pick up a few snacks and beverages as well. They do have a delivery service. I am unsure if they would deliver to the hotels.

I plan on flying to and from Buffalo (obviously need the border to open), slight difference though I don't plan to test until I get back to Buffalo and we will either pay for a same day PCR or spend one more night in Buffalo. I don't want to take away from my vacation or time out while I'm down there to test at all. Obviously this would be if I have no symptoms. If I test positive in Buffalo I will just get in my car and drive home, but even if my sisters tests negative we have to go home in the same car together so we will quarantine at my house when I get home and my husband will go live with her husband for two weeks.

You can test within 72 hour of returning so anytime after the 72 hour mark and there is no testing requirment to fly withing the US.

My understanding is that the test has to be within 3 days, as in no older than 3 days. I got the idea from someone else in another thread. A test isn't required to fly domestically within the States. I feel more comfortable to do it this way, it was very stressful to me to think about testing positive and being stuck away somewhere for two weeks.

I get it about the rules, literally cannot keep up. Have a trip to Vegas in October for week that will be my first test run and then hoping to go to Florida using the same methods in November.

I'm assuming we will need to test as well before we go to cross into the States but we will get that info when we hear about when the border opens. Also have mixed MRNA and sister has AZ/MRNA so a little stressed about that as well if they are going to get picky if there is a vaccination requirement.
