Ok folks,

I know I have a stumper for you. What do you do if someone in your party INSIST's on bringing their pets? (2 cats and a dog!) :confused3  :scratchin

I was thinking about renting one of the houses in Kissime but they all seem to say "No Pets" :worried:

Any suggestions? (well, any suggestions that don't involve harming the pets, or the party (who shall remain nameless :)

Thank You :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:

I think the parks have kennels...I don't know if that is better than leaving them in a kennel or with family members, but it is an option.

Or what about one of the campsites and then board the pets during the day?

Sounds like kind of a pain (my cats hate a 2 minute car ride!)...good luck!

I leave that person home with the pets. :lmao:

Seriously, we never travel with our 2 dogs. We love them to death, but never travel with them. It is much to stressful for them & us.

Our dogs know the kennel & the kennel owners we go to VERY well. They treat my dogs great & my dogs are really well cared for.

Sure they stress, but that is because they are not home with us. They would stress in hotels or rental houses to.

I think it is better for all involved to find a good kennel at home that you are comfortable with. Leave the pets at the pet hotel & go have fun at Disney World!

Can I ask why they would want to bring their cats on vacation with them? I have 4 cats, so I am definitely a cat person and love having them around, but cats are very territorial. It is very difficult for a cat to adjust to a new environment and a unfamilar environment could be very dangerous to them (they could be scared and try to hide someplace weird...one time when I was on the process of moving to a different apartment in my apartment building, my cat managed to open a kitchen cabinet and crawled behind my dishwasher!). The cats would most likely be much, much happier at home.

If they absolutely insist on bringing the cats, keep them in a small environment (like a bathroom or a small bedroom). It's much easier to "cat proof" and it will be less overwhelming to the cat. Also, leave their cat carriers in the room with them so they have a little "house" to sleep and feel safe in. You should probably also keep them in their carriers when you are not at the hotel/rental house in case housekeeping, etc. comes in and, god forbid, leaves a door open for a few minutes. Bye bye kitty... :(

Since they are insisting on bringing the pets, why not let them try to find the accomodations and they should offer to cover any premiums or surcharges that will be paid on behalf of the pets?

I did see kennels on WDW property, I am not sure where, I just remember seeing them.

Most of the kennels on WDW property require that you walk the dog - so that means leaving the park, getting to the kennel, walking the dog, stuffing him back into the crate, and then going back to the park... :confused3 Doesn't sound like an easy thing to do! I don't think they even take cats, do they?

I second mamacatnv's idea of haviong them responsible for finding a hotel/rental house that accepts pets. Whatever you do, do not agree to stay at a place that doesn't allow pets and have them try to sneak their 'babies' in... Housekeeping would find them, and you could all be out on your butts without a place to stay!

As a mommie of 3 furbabies I can understand why they want to bring their "kids" along. :duck: The only reason we dont take them to Florida with us is because I havent figured out how to fly them without chartering a plane! If this person is wanting to bring their pets, then they prolly travel with the "kids" and know that the animals wont be a pain on vacation.

You might want to check out the resorts at universal studios or La Quinta inns. I am not sure if they accept cats, but they dont have any problems with small/medium sized dogs. If we insisted on taking our girls with us *I* would be the one trying to figure out where to stay, not expecting someone else to do all that research for me!! I think you should stay where your family wants to stay and let he/she who must not be named fend for themselves. Of course if the person who must not be named is your spouse you are totally out of luck! LOL .

we decided to drive to Las Vegas just so we could take the girls with us. Now tell me this.... do they look unhappy ?? :teeth:

It sounds like they are more concerned about their own selfishness than their animals. Cats in particular don't travel well. Taking animals to a strange environment where they will simply be cooped up alone all day while the owners are in the parks is selfish and not good for the animals well being.

THe BEST alternative in almost every case is having someone come to your home 2-3 times a day to care for the animals. It's not inexpensive, but it's the kindest thing you can do for your fur kids.

I bring Spicey with me. He is definitely a cat....He likes to travel!!!

I can show pictures with him in the car and cage if anyone has any doubts...

he enjoys his trips. It has been a while since he has gone on one. So he is getting stressed - he knows we are going - but he doesn't know when.

He can get down right mean - if too long between trips.

He has a brother and sister (2 other cats) that stay home. they don't travel well. His only alone time comes with trips.

He has been going to WDW since he was 3 months old. He will be 20 years old this May....

go over to the Orlando hotels/attractions boards. the nice moderator, kilee, is putting up a pets allowed sticky....http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1043350

I can definitely recommend Epcot and FW kennels. They have lots of room to walk your pet. Spicey likes his walks.

I have also stayed at LaQuinta - very nice, Embassy - excellent - but the best was Universal's Royal Pacific - Spicey was treated like a King here... He started to walk around like he owned the place....

for condos/timeshares there is Celebration World Resort. which I also enjoy.

if you intend to stay on Disney property - then I suggest a Disney kennel. Yes you have to walk your pet. But since I also own DVC this is not a problem for me. Spicey always comes first....

if you don't want to walk your pets there are kennels in the area - you don't even have to visit - but why take your pet and not visit him/her....

anyway - WDW is Lake buena vista, surrounding area is Kissimmee and Orlando

www.akba.com

is the kennel association.

on there are several houses that take pets - that will also be on her list.

oh most places require an extra fee to bring a pet. generally it is PER pet - so make sure they understand that they need to pay the extra charges.

if she tried to bring them on WDW property and Disney finds out. THey will require her to put them in a kennel pay extra charges (I think $200 per pet) and the kennel costs ($9 per pet per day). No I never pay this extra costs (well $9 per day yes) - but someone got caught with a pet - they elected to leave WDW. I think (don't know for sure) that they were still required to pay the $200 extra cost.

this is like an extra person - I don't think the maids will tell. It is your neighbors who will report you.

i love my 2 dogs but they are big dogs just about 75lbs each and i thought about brining them but also having 2 kids and dh and i we are going to have our hands full as it is and our dogs are not caged up so for them to be most of the time is not fair to them, so they are staying with family.

With multiple pets it is best to pay a pet sitter to come to your home. The added security of someone checking on your home, bringing in mail, packages, etc. is very calming. Your pets do not want be uprooted, so why do it? With a single pet I would still go this route. Imagine all of the time "lost" journeying to the kennels each day to exercise your pet. I would rather leave the pet at home where they can comfort themselves in familiar surroundings.

that depends upon the animal.

my dogs have always been very social. So leaving them with a pet sitter (paid professional), friend, neighbor or relative was not a problem.

Spicey does not want to say home. the few times I did leave him at home did not work....once at the vet kennel, the other time at home with a pet sitter.

He refuses to eat. His hair falls out. he can also get a rash. On our vacation together he eats just fine. gets plenty of exercise and really seem to love it. Otherwise I would not be taking a 20 year cat with me.

on my vet assured me that a cat would eat. He really lost weight there. :rotfl2:

I used to fly my dog to Florida all the time. It was cheaper to fly her than to board her for two weeks. I think it was $75 or so to have her fly cargo, plus the vet visit for the flight certificate. My in-laws are in Florida and my dog absolutly loved going to see Grandma! The only catch is you can only fly in the fall winter when the weather is cooler.

I totally understand where the person in your party is coming from. We have a mini-pin (Molly) that travels very well. On the other hand, she doesn't do well when left home. We tried having a neighbor watch her, when we went to Alaska, & she wouldn't eat for them. :( A kennel doesn't work for her either, because she's used to having the run of the house. Unfortunately, we don't all have someone to house sit, when we're away. I would love to find someone dependable to stay with her, but so far that hasn't happened. Our family's in NC, making it harder to have them help. When we go on a cruise in April, we'll be driving Molly from FL to NC to stay with my sister & BIL (Molly's favorite sitter). We'll fly in & out of NC, although it would be much cheaper to fly for Tampa. :sad2: It would be much easier, if we could take her along on all our trips.

On a side note, Universal now gets much more of our money than WDW. Molly's happy at Universal hotels & they're great with pets. Consider looking there. All their resorts are very nice. I wish WDW was more pet friendly, because we don't go as often as we would like for that reason. :guilty:

Wow!!

Thanks to all for replying!!! :worship: :worship: I never expected to get so much response.

spiceycat gave me an excellent lead to another thread (see above)

On that thread, Kilee has some links to houses that allow pets, which might work out perfectly   :cheer2: :cheer2:

When I go on vacation, I put my animals in a good, safe kennel. Unfortunitly, my brother wants to bring his :( :(

Thanks again for all of the help!!! :worship: :worship: :worship:

Universal allows pets in all of their hotels? They must have lovely carpets :rotfl:

they do - it does not smell or look worn at all....

they do have stuff that cleans up everything these days - very well.

they also have definitely rules!!! - places that pets will not go.

also if anyone looks afraid or worried you are to bring your pet anywhere near that person....'

there are 2 pages of rules for pet owners...

Actually, I'm pretty sure they have pet & "no pet" rooms. We stayed at HRH, prior to getting Molly. Believe me, before getting a pet of my own, I was extremely "anti" indoor pet. Wow, things sure can change. :rotfl2: Anyway, we were placed in a pet room. The only way we knew that was we found a "room service" menu for pets in a drawer. I don't know if you've ever been in one of their resorts, but they're definitely deluxe & aren't shabby in the least. IMHO, it would be unusual to get a room not up to expectations. Then again, I don't allow my pet to destroy my home either. I would think that most pets that are taken to this type of hotel are well behaved. Of course, there's always an exception, but that's true in humans too.

Spiceycat,
We were posting at the same time. :goodvibes I see you have been very pleased with the condition of your rooms also.

A note on people being afraid of pets.... We have occasionally wished that more people were afraid of Molly. When we are forced to take her near other guests, we can never get very far. There's always someone stopping us wanting to play. She loves everybody, & people (esp. kids) pick up on that. We often spend lots of time on our trips just playing.

We are planning a trip end of April and traveling with our small yorkie. It kills me the nasty selfish comment. My pet absolutely love to travel, gets excited when we pack and runs all around the house happily knowing we're traveling and nevr shows any sign of stress, just the opposite is so happy. Loves to travel in our small RV also. We always spend time with her also and do not spend the whole entire day at the parks, usually a half day and have several hours a day spent with her. I don't agree either to bring your pet if you leave them the entire time in the kennels. Yorkies typically don't bother people with allergies (DH and myself have cat and dog allergies) and when we go into the Universal hotels have never had a problem with previous pets there, no smell, no allergy probs, etc. The Universal hotels are fabulous! Also Sheraton Safari has suite rooms that allow pets, also nice hotel with a slide, although a step down from the Universal hotels, still nice. And just for the record to the comment above about the carpets, my dog has never had an accident in a hotel. I also read I believe that the new Regal Palms resort that rents homes and townhouses allows pets, it looks so nice there.
