As most of you know I am a teaching assistant at a local primary school. I just need to let of steam as since working there today has been the most upsetting!!.

We have a little boy in our class aged 6 he also has a little sister aged 4. His mum is a single parent and the dad left when she was pregnant with his sister as he had an affair and now lives abroad and has no contact.

They live in a small rented house....Mum is a dinner lady at our school also a cleaner at our school on an evening and has another early morning cleaning job. She is a proud lady and works hard to make ends meet...she adores her children and helps anyone in need. On Saturday night she went with the children to stay at her parents house as her dad was in hospital and she didnt want her mum to be home alone.

Overnight her house was broken into and everything was stolen or destroyed. They took all the kids toys, clothes and xmas presents all the furniture, jewellery, even food out of the cuboards and freezer. What they didnt take they destroyed by spraying walls, photos, books etc with spray paint. They must have been in the house for hours.

The mum dropped the kids of this morning and she was sobbing, police believe that whoever did it knew she was away at her mums all night so she is scared its someone she knows. The children have been in tears most of the day....what a sad sad world we live in!

Sorry to be so depressing but its been a long day and needed to let off steam!!

What a terrible thing to happen. The people responsible are total scum.

I can totally understand why you need to vent. That is truly awful for that poor family it's beyond reason.

What an awful thing to happen. These people really are the scum of the earth.

That is terrible, could you perhaps ask for donations to help her out? or if she is a little too proud at least to help get the kids replacement presents. I'm sure there are people here who would oblige, after all a couple of quid to us would really mount up!. I'd be more than happy to donate but don't want to upset her further 'til you know its okay

We will do a collection at work (its getting organised!!). Also it was our Xmas Fayre at school on Thursday so we are going to sort out all the 'left overs' as in toys etc. We are also bringing in some tins, sweets, and basic foods and make a huge hamper for her.
Also we have a signed Middlesbrough Football shirt which came in to late to be a raffle prize for our christmas fayre so our Headteacher is thinking overnight to see if its acceptable to raffle it and give the money to her.....its all going to take time though :guilty:

OK Jane, just a thought, If theres anything that doesn't get replaced after xmas would you let us know? then we could perhaps get something together for her.
I hope I speak for everyone when I wish her all the best, its hard enough being a single parent without others putting the boot in.

That is so awful! I just don't understand why some people just have to destroy what others have worked so hard for!

Is there anything that we can do to help? I would gladly go and pick something up for the children and ship it to the school if you think that would help!

What a sad story. Can someone tell the local press who would love such a story. I'm sure she would get lots of offers of help from various organisations, and while I understand her pride, she obviously needs practical help right now.

Hope she and her children can recover from this soon.

You are so kind!!....but its so early days yet obviously she never came into work today and the children said they are staying at Grandmas house. We dont even know at present if she is insured!!. Our school is in a really deprived area which is why as a school we dont want to do to much as it could do more harm than good as jealousy from other families may arise but as she is a member of staff we feel we can do something!! The same about contacting the press it may do more harm than good

Its terrible when you have to decide if its a good decision to help financially!!

This story demonstrates what is bad and good about our society.
To steal from someone, especially at this time of year, is dreadful. To support ones colleagues, neighbours shows us what is good.
Thoughts for your colleague :grouphug:

That is so sad I can't think of words to describe the people who did this to them (and those I can aren't suitable for this forum)

Let us know if there is anything we can do. If you raffle/auction the Boro shirt let us know and we'll buy a ticket/bid!

I'm glad that at least she has people round her who want to help :grouphug:

That is so terrible, I will never understand how people can do such things. :confused3

That is an awful thing to happen, but it sounds more than your average straight forward burglary. Yes there are some nasty people about but most burglars are quite tidy people and don't totally trash the place like that. Lets hope they have left some forensics as to who they are :(
Claire ;)

How very sad, unbelievable what some people will do, :confused3 what a terrible thing to happen.

Sue

How awful - let's hope they catch whoever did this.

Please keep us updated re whether there is anything we can do to help.

This is awful. This woman deserves a medal for the way that she works hard whilst bringing up 2 small children. I hope that they find the scum bags responsible and chuck away the key.
If there is any support that we can give please let us know whether it be food vouchers, a donation, gift vouchers for clothes shops or toy stores.

What a terrible thing to happen at any time, but it seems even crueller at this time of year

Such a sad story ~ Why do people do that to others.
