Are there any smells at WDW that you find unique to the parks and that once you smell them a flood of memories from previous trips come flowing into your mind? Or are there scents that you catch in your everyday lives that trigger those WDW memories?

For me there’s a particular smell in the Belle Vue Room at the Boardwalk Inn that gets me every time. I don’t even know what is creating the smell, but it smells like hickory-smoked bacon or maybe it is just the smell of hickory. But I seem to be the only person in our party that smells it and I smell it every time I'm in or walk by the Belle Vue Room.

I've never stayed at the Poly, but I set one foot in the lobby and the smell takes me back to my first trip to WDW in 1973. We stayed at the Golf Resort (now Shades of Green), but would catch the monorail to the MK at the Poly. My wife complained about it, but I just went back in time.

That smell after the PP has been running all day. It's really humid and smells like well can't describe it.

When I was watch the DVD for PP I clearly remember that smell.

I'm not sure what the smell is but I think it is some kind of cleaner that they use there because I've smelled it in the resorts and also when I was at DTD early one morning a janitor was cleaning some outside tables and I smelled it. It's kind of a citrusy scent. I have an air freshener that smells just like it and every time I spray it I'm right there. :)

I am one of those people with a great sense of smell. I love the smell of the BC/YC lobby-hard to describe, but it's a clean, fresh laundry scent.
I love the burning smell in POTC and I think I also smell it in SE. :)
I love the smell of the AKL lobby-curry, turmeric, and other wonderful spices from Boma and Jiko!
The Poly "tropical" scent is wonderful, too!

My DH thinks I'm crazy because he has such a poor sense of smell!:hyper:

ProfGoofy, what is the Walt Disney Magnet School? Just curious!:teeth:

oh wow... yeah oh yes.... :)

The smell of fresh baked cookies on main street... oh yes :)

psssssst hey hey down here... Whats the PP???

Alice42,
You live in Chicago and you haven't heard of the Walt Disney Magnet School? ;) It's a public K-8 school located on Marine Dr. (next to Lake Shore Drive), North of Irving Park.

Isn't it every kids dream to say they went to Disney for school? :D As a further aside, have you ever typed in the address for the house that Walt Disney was born in at the Cook County Assessor website? I don't have the address here, but you can see a picture of the empty lot where the house once stood. An empty lot now, but on that lot magic began.

'Air conditioning smell' always reminds me of Disney. There is a certain odor to cranked-up air conditioning, and it always makes me think of WDW. Especially the pavillions in Future World, where the inside temperature is a good 30 degrees colder than outside.

Definitely the smell of all the goodies at the Main Street Bake Shop.

Also, the smell of "Rome burning" in SE.

The deisel smell of the buses. (Ahhhh!)

The hand soap -- for some reason my Dawn dishwashing liquid reminds me of the soap at the CBR. I can't explain it, but I know I smell it. ;)

And, for some reason, if I go into the refrigerated room at my grocery store, all the rose and other flower smells remind me of being at Disney World. I guess it's all the flowers that are at WDW.

Okay -- I can find just about anything that reminds me of Disney World.

:bounce:

Some of my favorite WDW smells are:

1. The smell of honey in the gift shop as you exit the Pooh ride at MK.
2. The smoky, spicy smell of the AKL lobby.
3. The misty water smell in the Pirates of the Carribean ride.

A smell I don't like:

The stink bug smell in It's Tough To Be a Bug (but it's still a unique WDW smell, that's for sure) LOL!

The strong smell of oranges that was in Horizons. I have a citrus air freshener made with pure orange oil and it always reminds me Horizons when I spray it. MMMMMMMMMMMMM!
I miss that ride. :(

Disney really smelled of Christmas, that festive smell of the holiday season, it was magical. I smelled so many good smells this trip, and a couple of not so good ones. We were sat behind some hygiene deficient people on Winnie the Pooh, thank goodness the honey smell counteracted it!

I love the smells of Disney!

2 smells jump right out at me....

The burning of the town in PoC and the yuck smell of stale water on the hand rest spots on Splash Mountain! Wouldn't trade either of them!

I love WDW smells!

I, too, like the diesel from the busses.
Rome burning in Spaceship Earth.
Town burning in POTC.
Main Street Bakery.

My most favorite smell of all is AKL! Yummy spices! Mmmmm...

Also, this is weird, but the smell of sunscreen always reminds me of Disney! lol... wonder why? :p

Every time I smell popcorn popping, I am immediately transported back to the Magic Kingdom and the exit, where the Orville Reddenbacher popcorn machine is located next to City Hall. That, and the smell of chocolate chip cookies baking (Main Street bakery). Another smell that evokes vibrant memories is Rice Crispies--if I am within smelling distance of a bowl of them, I can visualize Rice Crispie treats in the Main Street Confectionery. Are you picking up on all my memories are associated with food?...:teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

I could go on and on about my favorite particular smells, but I also love the overall "Disney Smell". I don't know what it is but it is an overall smell that the rides have inside. I don't know how to describe it but, every once and a while my wife and I will be somewhere and one of us will get hit by the "Disney Smell" and will walk through the store or wherever we happen to be searching for it.

Some favorite particular smells are:
1.) Diesel from the buses
2.) Main Street Bakery
3.)Turkey Legs in Frontierland
4.) Smoke Smelitizers in POTC and SE

I have yet to go into AKL but will make a special trip this time seeing as everyone loves it so much.

10 days and counting and reading these posts just seems to be making time go slower and slower.....It cant get here quick enough....go clock go!

Gotta love the smell outside the GCH at the Polynesian from the fire pit in 'Ohana.

When I went to WDW as a kid I noticed that all of the rides with water (i.e. POTC, Small World, The Land, etc.) had that musty smell. I forgot about that smell until I went to WDW the next time (as a much older kid) at which time, it hit me like a rock. Immediately, I started to LOVE that smell. I still love that smell. In fact, smelling that smell is oneof those "You know you are in WDW when........." things for me.

Last time I was in WDW, I smelled that musty smell in my hotel room. At that point I realized that the smell is not necessarily a damp musty remnant in the rides but that it is the smell of the chemicals in the water. Gross! Oddly enough, I still love the smell. Maybe I'll bring some WDW water back with me next time ;) haha

I love the smell of the hand stamp...don't ask me why!

That and at Disneyland, the smell inside the queue area of Splash Mountain.

I would have to say that the Main lobby in the Poly has it's own smell that does it for me. I also like the just plain "Disney Smell". I am not certain what it is but everything just smells real clean and I've never smelled it anywhere else. I was in Fla in July and I went to Downtown Disney just to get a stiff shot of the disney smell to last until 6 days from now!!!

Oh yea, I forgot about POTC definitely has it's own smell as well.
