I called my mom tonight to see if she was interested in coming to the Hilton Head resort with us in March. Told her she would have her own studio. She said she would love to and then asked how much it would cost. What a great feeling to tell her it wouldn't cost a dime! I'm sure she's wondering how that could be and I know she'll probably ask again. Then I get the chance to explain the way the club works and what a great way it is to vacation.

Now I just have to tell her she gets babsitting duty for one night. :teeth:

What a great surprise for your mom!!! Until you ask her to babysit!!

It'll be fun for you to see your mom have fun.

Enjoy the magic!

I think the babysitting could be fun for her as well!

I don't know many grandmothers who would prefer to do anything more than hang with the grandchildren!

Thanks for the nice post. It's great that you are able to do this for your mother. I'm sure you will have a wonderful trip. :)

Nice thing to do for your Mom.

Can I adopt you? I don't have any grandchildren yet!

I took my parents to OKW for 2 nights in June for my first DVC trip and I know how cool that feels! I booked a 2 bedroom to really show off too!
They live in The Villages, which is about an hour north of the World, love to go, but they are older and can't "commando" Disney anymore. DVC allows them to visit Disney and truly enjoy it. They can go back to the resort in the afternoons and relax, I can either go back and hit the pool or stay in the parks as a solo. My Dad goes around the retirement village bragging about how his daughter is taking him on vacation. We're going to SSR for 3 nights after Thanksgiving and 3 more nights right before Christmas.

We took my in-laws to WDW with us once and they just don't get it. Another time we sent them to Vero for a week and they were in heaven. That is their idea of a great vacation and it was nice to be able to do it for them.

Last January we brought my husband's running buddy and his family with us. They were going to stay in the All Stars, but their daughter turned 3 last summer and they were going to have five in the room. They asked if we would put one of their party on our room so they could get all five in the room. We told them that wasn't the way to do WDW and invited them to join us in a two bedroom at OKW. As our guests.

We had a blast and so did they. Now we're all flying to DL together in two weeks for the DL Half Marathon.

It's a lot of fun to bring people along who appreciate what they are getting.

We were lucky to be able to treat DM & DsF in our 2bdrm on our 1st trip home.

But it sad we don't have enough points to do it every year if they wanted to go. They have done so much for us it was nice to return the favor and pick up everything but some of their food and souvies.

We will miss that 2 bdrm as well ......................................Maybe Not we just booked POP on an AP discount were not choosie.

I'm reading these posts and feel the need to point our what a wonderful group of people dvcers are. Read these posts and notice how happy everyone is to have been able to do something nice for someone else, without expecting anything in return. (I don't consider a grandmother babysitting for one night a repayment. I know my Mom begs to babysit.)
DH and I have put my Dad and his companion in a studio on a couple of occasions. (They also live in the Villages.) We've brought my Mom with us on several vacations. We gave a very good friend of ours enough points for a studio when we vacationed together. Most recently we gave enough points to a friend of ours to stay in a studio with her daughter. (although she liked ASMo better due mainly to alot of mix ups on her DDP). I can't think of a nicer feeling than to help someone enjoy the most magical place on earth.
I wish my FIL and MIL would take us up on the offer and join us one of these trips. But highly unlikely now, as FIL is not up to it anymore.

It's a nice reminder of who we really are-rather than the threads that are full of complaints about rude behavior! I think one of the things we all LOVE about being DVC members is being able to share our membership with family and friends. I joined DVC because a friend of mine who was a member took me to VB last year! Once I had been on that trip, and learned about how cool it was-I started working the problem to get myself a membership too! The first thing I wanted to do was take Mom and Dad-now at Christmas I'll be bringing my niece for her first DVC visit. I'm leaving tomorrow for HHI with my member friend, she invited her sister, BIL and 17 mth old niece. If it wasn't for her membership, they would not have had a vacation at all. That's the benefit of the club that you can't fit into a spreadsheet.

that is a nice feeling. now to make it a better feeling take us too and we'll babysit 1 nt too. :lmao:

It really does give you a good feeling to be able to do something like this. We have taken my mom and dad twice, once to OKW and once to VWL. My dad is insistent on paying his way for accomodations and its cool to say dont worry about it. Its a way for us to give back to all the sacrifice they made for us kids growing up. My MIL has gone with us once and stayed in a 2 bed at VWL. She had paid for our family trip(the whole thing) in 99 and it was our 1st time in WDW. So again, it gave us a chance to give back. If it hadnt been for her, we may never have made it to WDW that 1st time and potentially bought into DVC. I gotta go give her a big hug :grouphug:

Last year we took DM & DF to SSR with us. We stayed in a 2 bedroom. Actually, they had my DDs (3&7) for a month before the WDW trip and they flew down to Orlando with the kids and DH and I drove down a 3 days before they got there. We had the whole place to ourselves! :cool1: (Of course, we spent a lot of time saying, "gee, I wish the girls were here" but we somehow managed to have fun without them)
But when the grandparents arrived with kids in tow, we helped them into the studio and DF was like "wow, this is fantastic! What a room!" UNTIL he walked into our one bedroom and saw the bathtub.
"Hey, where is my tub?" :rolleyes1
The funny part is while they spent time with us, they spent more time by themselves. We went to EPCOT the second day and they just left us, saying they'd meet us at lunch. (If you knew my parents, who are the role models for the inlaws on Everybody loves Raymond, you'd be laughing too :rotfl2: )
but what a great feeling to say, no, we got the room.

We have also invited family and friends with great outcome to DVC with us. This past mother's day I invited my mom, grandmother and sister, we stayed in a studio at SSR and part of their gift was dinner at the GF Cafe. It was great spending time with them and sharing some of our favorites with them. My mom kept commenting how peaceful and quiet the resort was as we were sitting on our porch overlooking one of the ponds, and stating its amazing there was a busy road right behind us, one would never know.

I think next year, maybe going to Epcot Flower & Garden Fest.
