I was just looking at a family photo taken last Christmas Eve - all of us (including the dog) standing in front of the fireplace with big smiles - so happy to all be together, and having no idea what the next few weeks would bring.

On January 14th, Bobby's Marine Corp unit was activated and deployed to Kuwait, and eventually into Iraq as the war began.

When he left on that cold January morning...

... we were told they would be gone a minimum of a year. The following months are still a blur in my mind - fueled by worry and lack of sleep.

As terrible as those weeks and months were, the best day of my life was that night in early June, when he stepped off that bus and into our arms...after only 6 months.

And now...here I am, once again planning another Christmas Eve - all of the food, the presents - and then I stop, and realize that this year I have the greatest gift of all - my son, at home safe and sound, (just like last Christmas).

Merry Christmas and GOD BLESS to all of the DIS friends who helped get me through. I am truely blessed. ::yes::

Oh Patty, your post has brought tears to my eyes! I'm so glad that you have your family together this Christmas. :grouphug:

You are happy and proud, Patty, we are happy and proud, all of us because of folks like Bobby. Thank you both, God bless, Merry Christmas.

It was the great people on these boards who supported me and kept my spirits lifted during those months.

...and not only ME, but my son and his unit benefited from the DIS. They were the recipients of MANY a care package from a bunch of total strangers - whose only connection to me was a love of the "mouse". ::yes::

You will NEVER be forgotten!!!!!;)

I fully understand where you are coming from...this will be my daughters first Christmas home in 3 years. Spent six months in Afghanistan in 02 and 5 months in Iraq begining of 03. She was finally discharged and is now home and back in college. This truly is a good Christmas for me.

So I'm glad that your son is home for this Christmas also. Now we need to get the rest of our troops home.

Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Merry Christmas TwinMom7 and may God bless you and you family. It looks as if He has done so already.

Thanks for ALL of your kind words and warm wishes.

Like I said....my DIS friends are the BEST!!!::yes::

Patty,
I'm very happy that Bobby will be home with you this holiday season and I pray for the safe and quick return for all of the men and women still deployed. I am so thankful for what they are doing and for the sacrifices they are making. May God watch over them and keep them safe.
