I was just looking at a family photo taken last Christmas Eve - all of us (including the dog) standing in front of the fireplace with big smiles - so happy to all be together, and having no idea what the next few weeks would bring.
On January 14th, Bobby's Marine Corp unit was activated and deployed to Kuwait, and eventually into Iraq as the war began.
When he left on that cold January morning...
... we were told they would be gone a minimum of a year. The following months are still a blur in my mind - fueled by worry and lack of sleep.
As terrible as those weeks and months were, the best day of my life was that night in early June, when he stepped off that bus and into our arms...after only 6 months.
And now...here I am, once again planning another Christmas Eve - all of the food, the presents - and then I stop, and realize that this year I have the greatest gift of all - my son, at home safe and sound, (just like last Christmas).
Merry Christmas and GOD BLESS to all of the DIS friends who helped get me through. I am truely blessed.
