What’s your experience taking a 19-year-old on DCL?

My daughters have enjoyed the 1820 society immensely. 3 years ago my now 21 yo was constantly with her group hanging out, hot tubbing, adult only shows etc. My now 18yo on our 9 night cruise had even more fun. The group started with 20 "kids" and swelled to around 35 at points. They were constantly playing games, going to silent DJ, dancing, and just hanging out. I am already hearing plans of future meet ups and "if you are ever in *&^& you better come see me"

My kids are now 19 and 22 and they still enjoy DCL. My oldest had mostly good groups in the 1820 Society however there was 1 cruise when no one showed up. My youngest has been in it for B2Bs last year and enjoyed it. The 3 night cruise didn't have a large group so that one was sort of low key but the 4 night was better. Hes looking forward to the 7 night next month.

The group is now called 1820 Society (there were issues with 21 year olds being able to purchase alcohol, so they've limited the age range)

Well, THAT is disappointing (though understandable). We are bringing my DD and her boyfriend on a Merrytime cruise in December. She will be 19 and he will have just turned 21. Guess they are on their own.

Our daughter has done 1820 Society on 3 day and one week cruises. One week were better in terms of the group coming together (and staying connected after the cruise). All were good and she enjoyed them. They have an initial meeting on the first day in the evening I would recommend at least going to that to check it out.

The official 1820 Society events may have an age restriction, but it is possible (and even likely) that the group or a subset of the group will have informal meetings as well, which a just-turned-21 person could attend. On our recent 8-night cruise, my son hung out with other 18-20 year olds throughout the day, even when there weren't 1820 events listed in the Navigator.

They could always just talk to other people and see what results. Adults do that all the time without any official "society."

Not really -- on our 9 night Alaska, there were more mature 16 and 17 year olds in the group, and a few that were 21 to 23. The ones who were older just wanted a better group to hang out with, and the ones who were younger did not really fit in with the Vibe crowd (personality, maturity level, etc)
