What’s for Dinner Tonight?

I've never heard of black fish. What's it like?
It is a white flakey fish similar to flounder. I am in CT and it is local fish. I occasionally see it at my farmers market but not in stores, I’m not sure if it’s commercially fished. My friend’s father has a boat and fishes regularly so I usually get it from him.

Lucky you. Nothing beats fresh fish. We'll look for it, if/when we're in CT.

Seems like there was a “cluck cluck” thing going on today, 😊.

Bought a pair of fresh Cornish hens and roasted them in a blender marinade I made up in my head: a bunch of cilantro, a bit of parsley (all fresh), onion and garlic with some lime juice. Rubbed under skin, let it sit for 30 minutes and then into the oven. Cooked nicely and no need to sit in the fridge overnight as normally done.

Served the hens with potatoes boiled in chicken stock and added them to a green salad.

Do you know the fish shops between Madison and Old Saybrook? One is on the uptown side of Route 9 and is called Atlantic Seafood, I think; very upscale with prepped food. Across the road about a quarter mile away is a shop with old fashioned linoleum tiles and shoulder high glass counters in a tiny strip mall whose name I can’t recall. They sell local fish (mud puppies?) and eels they caught at the mouth of the Connecticut River. Love and miss that place 💕

Made curried chicken (aka Coronation) salad tonight. A sandwich for DGD and on a bed of greens with grape tomatoes for me.

Dessert was peach sorbet, a riff on peach gelato I made a few weeks ago that was too sweet. It’s new incarnation is much better and less work since I used unpeeled fruit.

I don’t but my cousin who’s like my sister lives in Madison so I’m going to have to ask her why she’s been holding out on me!

I’ll put it on my list for next time I see her. Thanks for the recommendation!!

DGD made her Chicago flight; very different mentality from me when it comes to travel. I’m a planner, she’s more relaxed and willing to accept whatever the Fates bring her.

So I've no one to please but myself so I grabbed some Tuscan bean soup out of the freezer and it’s the perfect dinner for the day.
