We've Bounced Back like Tigger SB09 TR NEW 9/11 CLOSING TIME....

Continuation of Day 4) DHS….Attack of the 50 ft Beach Zombie!

Before I get started just a quick :offtopic: report….

The school event I head chaired (last Friday 5-29) went great…only a few minor bumps and we had wonderful weather. The overall report was how well organized and run it was and that I did an AWESOME job and most importantly the students had so much FUN! I heard many “This was the BEST Exploremore Day EVER!”….YAY I felt a huge sigh of relief and a pretty nice confidence boost as well. And then the Engagement Party for my bother that my sister and I threw was another great success…it was long and a lot of hard work, but everyone had full bellies and a good time and most importantly the groom and bride to be had a wonderful time and were very thankful!

So thanks for letting me take a minor break from my TR…this week will be busy too w/ the last days of school ahead for Michael, Aldine and Mae, plus my final duties as our church’s Nursery Superintendent need to be accomplished and my final Sunday to serve this coming Sunday the 6th, oh and mustn’t forget celebrating Matt’s b-day too!

Note...yesterday the 2nd was his actual b-day and we orderd his favorite pizza from Lou Malnati's (if you are from Chicago or ever visit their "upside down pizza as the kids call it is the BEST!)

then afterwards his Dsis and her huband came over w/ homemade cherry cheesecake brownies for dessert and we searched high and low for the video camera cord (finally found behind the tv w/ a dozen other little findsprobably thanks to Margaret....) and watched part of our Disney vacation video.

Saturday the rest of the family will be coming over for a post-b-day BBQ. I gave DH his present yesterday...a family membership to the Morton Arboretum about 20 minutes from our house. It is HUGE natrual preserve full of driving, walking trails, and a great children's garden and more....he liked it and can't wait till the membership cards come in the mail.

Busy Busy! :hyper:

Now back to DHS….

I last left you w/ us arriving a little damp at the Sci-Fi getting ready to check in for our earl lunch ADR. When we arrived, some young boy was totally freaking out and screaming and yelling w/ his Dad because he was completely terrified to go inside and eat here….

I felt bad for the kid and thought, man is it really worth it? In turn his crying started to make Michael nervous….but I assured him it would be fine it there and that the boy crying was much younger than him. Luckily we only waited a few minutes…

100_2334.jpg

until we were transported back to the 50’s and entered the drive in and were seated in our cars

100_2343.jpg

100_2344.jpg

100_2345.jpg

It had been a long time since we’ve eaten here (never for the kids or my Dad) so it was a nice treat and was pleasantly surprised w/ how quiet and cool it was inside. Once we were seated and the big movie screen caught Michael’s eye he was fine.

FYI I think eventually that little boy was calm enough to come in….

Throughout the meal since our car was parked right next to the fence and entrance I scanned the families coming in for a husband and wife and some boys…hoping I’d spot Carissa. Now granted I didn’t now what she looked like, but it was worth a try. I did see several families w/ boys coming in, but not sure if I really did see Carissa and her family.

Where was your car parked?:confused3

So we ordered our food…which I’m trying to remember was this the place that seemed to take a while to get our grub?

Anyways I ordered the Turkey wrap sandwich w/ some cucumber melon salad as a side. Everything was tasty! Matt got another Burger…as did Mom and Dad plus they got shakes. Michael ordered a hot dog and fries, w/ apple slices and an ice cream sundae

100_2346.jpg

We ordered plain macaroni noodles for Margaret and the girls ordered pizza.

TR note….at this point I had stopped journaling when the food arrived and got about a day behind in keeping up w/ my notes so the rest is on memory only….hope I can recall all the details in the my notes as good as Kathy!

So we all ate our food and enjoyed the campy Sci-Fi clips…and especially the Tom and Jerry cartoon. It had felt as though we had been in here a while and then Michael told me we had watched that part already on the screen….so the movie reel has run it’s full cycle.

Anyone know how long it is?

We were getting antsy to leave but I knew some ice cream was coming for Michael, when finally our server came out not just w/ his little sundae but a surprise post b-day one for my Mom as well.

100_2350.jpg

The girls helped eat my Mom’s sundae and then we said good bye to the 50’s and used the restrooms before heading back out to the Studios…..oh wait I had to run back in because luckily I realized we had left behind Michael’s headphones when I did. They were still in his seat. Whew!

Up next was the GMR:

100_2353.jpg

100_2354.jpg

100_2355.jpg

Josefina enjoyed herself too

100_2358.jpg

We were able to be escorted in which was good, since the movie reel room was packed to the gills….it is one of mine (and my Mom’s favorite parts) but there was no way Michael couldn’t have handled that long wait even w/ the screen distraction it probably only would have worked for one cycle.

100_2356.jpg

The ride was as nice as I remember it has been (since ’05 was the last rode it). Michael did quite well, thought at one point when the Gangster had over taken our vehicle (we were in the front row) he said to Michael “What’s ya lookin at?”

Ooohhh that could have gone bad, but it didn’t.

Mae sat near Matt and kept her head down during the ALIEN scene too. The kids enjoyed it and Michael remembered the Egyptian part. And I still can’t find that hidden Mickey in those hygrographs (msp?). My favorite parts of course are the scenes from Casablanca and the Wizard of Oz!

Did you know you can’t rent out the Oz scene for a private function for say about 10 grand….any takers my birthday is end of August

After TGM, we decided to split up and my Mom and Matt went to Star Tours while the kids, my Dad and I went looking for Lightening McQueen.

Image089.jpg

It was a little lack luster for us all and boring in Michael’s opinion as he [Lighting] didn’t even talk….I thought maybe they’d have an audio tape or something like when you touched him…oh well?

Next we looked around in some of the nearby gift shops

100_2360.jpg

100_2361.jpg

Michael got a Muppet penny to add to his collection and then in the Christmas shop , my Dad found a St. Pat’s old style Mickey and Minnie plush that he later purchased w/ my Mom for my brother and his fiancé as their wedding next year is the week before St. Patrick’s Day. They liked it!

We met back up w/ the others and headed over to the NY back lot for mine and Matt’s traditional picture:

100_2363.jpg

Oh and Josefina got one too...

100_2364.jpg

Then I looked over the character schedule, because we hardly saw any last year w/ all the SWW crowds and I didn’t want the kids to miss out this trip….well me too whistle.

So who would we find and who would find us?

Come back and see….please.

Up NEXT: characters, characters, characters….oh my!

Thanks for reading,

J-

First, Congratulations on your successful school event! Nice job! :thumbsup2

Sounds like you had a FABULOUS time at Sci Fi! The atmosphere there really can't be beat.

The picture of the kids with Lightning McQueen is cute! We saw him and Mater in 2007 before they made an official meet and greet spot for them. It was total craziness!

I'm glad Josefina is enjoying her trip...those pics make me smile!

Can't wait to see what characters you meet! :cool1:

What a great day you all had at DHS! :yay: I'm looking forward most to the GMR and Sci-Fi dinner (neither of which we've done before)!

Well done on your school event and the engagement party! :thumbsup2

Enjoy the BBQ this weekend! :cool1:

I swear it wasn't Liam!

Sounds like you had a great time at DHS. We loved toy story mania, although I was not able to play much since I was holding on to my son for dear life.
We also had lunch at sci-Fi when we were there , I really liked how quiet it was in there too.

it is turning out to be a good day...and we're only 1/2 way done! The ride does move pretty fast huh?
ooops ! Sorry! Double post:flower3:

no worries...

Whew! A couple of close calls with Michael! :scared: (Just knew he would like the big movie screen, though!) :thumbsup2

As far as remembering all the details....

I have to sit and stare at all my pix for a long, long time... then meditate on them to try and stir the memories.

Having your trusty journal is so much easier!! :rotfl: But, you can't journal all the time, otherwise you'd miss out on the fun of the "here and now!"

 You thought to take a pic of the license plate... how cool! (I didn't.)

Your parents look like they're having a ball, BTW! I can't wait to read more about your character meets!!

Kathy

I love The Great Movie Ride!! I'm glad it went ok with the gangster & Michael - that definitely could have gone bad!! :scared:

We've skipped the Sci Fi because I was nervous that the movie would be too scary... so it was OK? :confused3

Your Sci-Fi pictures are great! It makes me want to eat there!

It is pretty cool...unlike most other dinning experiences out there! you should eat there!

You have got such adorable kids!

Thank you! :goodvibes

Yep...it worked like a charm till it re-cycled...

Yes the pictures do help....and the kids, Aldine and Michael have great memories to fill in my gaps!

But, you can't journal all the time, otherwise you'd miss out on the fun of the "here and now!"

so true!

 You thought to take a pic of the license plate... how cool! (I didn't.)

I know...that was a good one!

They were!

coming soon....

Kathy

We've skipped the Sci Fi because I was nervous that the movie would be too scary... so it was OK? :confused3

No it is not scary at all IMHO....

it's not 1 whole movie but lots of little trailers mostly, 1 or 2 Tom and Jerry cartoons, and then corny movie theatre promos to get your snacks...just like if you really were at a drive-in.

Mae wasn't nervous at all...and I never heard a peep from Margaret either...Michael enjoyed himself like I said, though it can be distracting w/ the eating.

You should try it one of these times...but beware some people don't get cars they sit at tables toward the back....but if you make an early ADR you should be fine and a family of 4 you'll have 2 hitchikers in your car....

More TR to come soon!

glad you are caught up and yes it was a crazy busy week last, but now today is the last day of school and we'll see how much Mom time I'll get now....

that's OK I love my kids and hope we can do many fun things this summer!

next update coming....

Day 4) cont: A little character fun and more….

So we decided first to try and see what Monsters were around since we weren’t far from Monstropolis….

100_2365.jpg

And luck have it Sully & Mike were taking a Laugh break and came out to visit us and a few other guests….

The queue line was short which was another bonus! My parents waited outside the queue line in the back and we waited our short turn to go say HI!

As you can see in the pictures….Margaret was a bit unsure of these big, weird looking fellas….but eventually in the protection of Daddy’s arms she warmed up.

Image092.jpg

100_2368.jpg

100_2370.jpg

Besides the kids saying hi (they don’t sign books) we also got a family group shot….please don’t ask why I put my arm out like that?

Image094.jpg

Image095.jpg

Image099.jpg

Oh and BTW, a little past side note….the twins first movie experience was seeing Monsters Inc at the show. We still have Mike and Sully plush down in the basement.

We now decided to make our way back toward PHDL…oh the kids wanted to go in the movie set play area since we were right there but we declined thinking the stuff would still be wet from the morning rains…we made a couple stops on the way…

1st at a gift shop where Michael bought Stitch Yoda

100_2957.jpg

And I saw some cool game there but now I don’t remember what is was…maybe ToT CLUE ? I love Clue…I have just about every version made….classic, kids, Museum Caper, Haunted Mansion, Hitchcock, Master Detective, a CD rom, and the DVD…sorry for that little tangent.

We then waited like forever by a penny machine as some Mom proceeded to get all 4 designs for each of her 2 kids….come on now, that’s a bit extreme don’t ya think?

Anyways Michael finally had his turn and got his 1 design limit….

100_2371.jpg

100_2372.jpg

100_2375.jpg

Back on our way again we made it too the PHDL show and got in line, Aldine reminded me we stopped for popcorn and Wheezy slushies too…

I took a few more pic’s in the Pixar Place area….

100_2377.jpg

E4 you sunk my Battleship!

100_2376.jpg

I think Michael was confused why Dad took this one, by his body pose…

My parents didn’t accompany us in the line [PHDL], my Mom found a bench in the shade to wait and my Dad went off to get FP’s for either ToT or RnRC (I told him his choice) for him and I to go on later…

Matt was not in line w/ us for part of time, restroom? and then he had to hop back out of line again when we realized we left Michael’s headphones on the stroller w/ my Mom….

We got in the show and ended up sitting toward the back which wasn’t bad…better for Michael. The twins were not all that thrilled to be doing this…I guess they are out growing this show. What will we do next yr? Mae should still be young enough to enjoy it at 8 and Margaret should still love it at 4…but the twins at almost 11 ½ don’t think so….

The show was very good as usual, and our new camera captured the shots much nicer…here are some pic’s of the show and Margaret enjoying herself:

100_2386.jpg

100_2387.jpg

100_2389.jpg

100_2391.jpg

We met back up w/ my parents again and I think we took a restroom break and peeked in the nearby gift shop, where Matt spotted a MM and Walt t-shirt…but wasn’t 100% yet on buying it…wanted to think about.

Up next we decided to go to the Animation Area and find some more characters….but though let’s do the Tour part first. Matt & I hadn’t done this since ’98 (wow that’s along time) and WOW how much it has changed huh?

So it was completely new for all, we queued up and it wasn’t crowded, but Michael was a bit antsy, it wasn't a long wait thankfully he read his book as we waited and Margaret kept dunking under the railing and taking her shoes off….oh the joys of traveling w/ a toddler….

So in we go and sit in this little theatre and the presentation was cute…could have been a bit funnier…I don’t know, I'm not one to complain too much when I’m at Disney but the CM we had was just a bit off…her voice and timing w/ Mushu….oh well…

It’s probably a skipper from now on….unless they try to update it again!

We then enter the character area and we see just a few of the characters around…but it’s time for Dad and I to use our FP’s he got ToT, so I leave Matt and the kids, w/ my Mom and my Dad and I head off!

ToT report….was great!!!!!! My Dad hadn’t been on this since ’95 and he really super enjoyed it and after the ride we stood outside and looked up at the tower so my Dad could see the windows opening. It was a fun time for us.

We headed back to the Animation area to see what was going on…..

Up NEXT…those crazy characters and would we all meet Mickey?

Thanks for reading,

J-

The monsters looked pretty cool - we didn't see them during our trip. I'm also very sad to say that we didn't see PHDL! I REALLY wanted to see it - it had finally been updated to include characters my kids would know, plus this might have been Alex's last year of interest. :sad2: I'm not exactly sure how we missed it... we focused on LMA the first day, then I guess I forgot or something on our second day??? I guess that's one of the problems with flexible OCD. I was a little too flexible. ;)

Looks like your kiddos enjoyed it though. Aldine doesn't like the really fast rides? No ToT or RnRC for her?

A visit with Mike & Sully is on my To Do List, too!! :thumbsup2 Love that movie... too bad they never did a sequel... I actually thought it was better than Toy Story....

Whoops! Gotta have those ear phones!!

How nice that you got some father-daughter time with dear old dad!! :lovestruc It must've been a fun time and a welcome little break from being with the entire "herd."
