We stayed at Westgate Lakes Resort a couple of weeks ago. I thought I would post a brief review for those who are going soon:
We chose Westgate Lakes because our timeshare week (we own in Austria and just use it to exchange) was going to expire. We wanted to go somewhere warm. When we couldn't get anything in Mexico or beach resort with a short enough flight, we chose to come to FL even though we had a September Disney trip planned. Westgate Lakes happened to be available for exchange.
Things we liked:
The proximity to Sea World was awesome! Not far to Universal either! There were many restaraunts and a grocery store pretty close by.
The bathroom was pretty nice with a whirlpool tub and a separate shower.
There were plenty of pools so you were never very far from one.
All the units had large screened in porches or balconies with a table and chairs. It really added on to the living space.
The view from most rooms were of a "lake." More like a lagoon, but still nice to look at.
The restaurant on-site was nice. It was a BBQ place. The food was very good. The had two for one beer and wine during certain hours. The best part was that there was an arcade for kids and they gave each kid 5 free tokens. Oh yeah, the kids meals were free too.
Things we didn't like:
The rooms were very dated. I didn't really want to touch the carpet or bedspread. They were dark green and you just got the feeling they were covering up a lot of stains. The beds were pretty hard.
The studio rooms were pretty small. We asked to upgrade to a 1 bedroom seeing they had so many empty rooms. They wanted $70/night extra to do that. The one adjoining our studio sat empty all week.
The lobby had a bakery and cappacino bar--but the quality was terrible. I've had a better latte from a gas station. And it took forever even though there were two people working and only two people in line.
Overall it was a fine place to stay for a week since we were out at theme parks most of the time anyway, but I think it's the lowest quality accomodations we have ever exchanged for. It really makes me appreciate our recent purchase into the Disney Vacation Club. Our September stay will be at Boardwalk Villas. I can't wait.
