We are finally getting out from under, too.
I can't say I minded the snow so much; DH had knee surgery on the 11th, but was bound and determined to keep on keepin' on, despite the fact that it was pretty major surgery and requires him to be on crutches for 8 weeks. The snow slowed him down a bit, keeping his coworkers and staff out of the office, so he didn't have much of an excuse to overdo it. He went in for a few full days but otherwise worked from home and kept his leg elevated.
And fortunate for me that he was home, because I tried driving in the snow once, and after sliding a couple times I turned around and skittered back into the driveway, declaring him my personal driver for the duration.
DH caused quite a sensation in the neighborhood when he decided to shovel the driveway yesterday. He (dressed in a t-shirt, shorts and sandals) plunked down onto a garage swivel chair, and wheeled himself and his trusty shovel out to the driveway. Neighbor after neighbor drove by slowly, watching his progress, and many stopping to offer a humorous or amazed comment.
The kids did tons of sledding, and are very sad the snow is melting away. Yesterday was the worst driving yet, as our compact snow and ice turned to crusty snow on top with water running underneath. Very sloppy, with deep ruts along the street. And if you tried to turn a corner against the rut, good luck to you!
This morning we have very slushy snow with spots of bare, wet pavement. And it's raining. Ahhh, but it was fun while it lasted.
