Hey Nan...

I went up to the lake to see that piece of property I was telling you about. Nice piece of land... has lots of trees that will need to be cleared... here's some shots... picture the one with the clouds as nice sunny days... puffy WHITE not GRAY clouds... crystal clear BLUE water...

Oh... and the Loons came to greet us.. (for anyone who has seen "On Golden Pond" a Zillion times on AMC!!!)

IMG_1894-1.jpg

This one is on Dunham Mountain - my business is named Dunham Oak after that mountain and another one on the far left side of the next picture...

IMG_1896-1.jpg

That's a native DUCK...not a loon... :)

IMG_1898-1.jpg

This is Northwoods, where I started coming up to the lake when I was only 4...like last year... :rotfl: It's a trailer camp that I was thinking of getting a place in, but they are older places and I wanted something new and my own...

And if you face the street side... you get 700 feet of THIS... (Angie...Dennis... imagine a nice house with a nice big driveway that you can park the RV in...)

IMG_1899-1.jpg

So... Am I nuts????

Just the thought of clearing the property and building a HOUSE scares me silly!!!

Oh and here's a picture when it's NICE up there... taken last summer...

not nuts, but a big undertaking, but why not is what I think you should be asking rather than why...

it is beautiful. how is it in the snowy months?

Deb...you'd better or we're all going to drive to PA and have a Dis intervention!!! (make sure you have enough snacks please...) ;)

Maybe I shouldn't call.....then you'll all come here and I can see you!!!

Stay safe Nan...

Thinking of you Nan!

& a few other choice names too... :rolleyes1

It's a big undertaking but I'm not doing it alone... you know who is in on it too... sort of a "retreat"... I just didn't think of building a house. I think it's what I've always wanted and now it's in front of me and totally doable (it's not like I'M going to cut down all those trees...) but I just didn't think this big to begin with...

BTW.. you did say you and Molly had one of the first Ressies for the Guest room!!!

Winter can be snowy or not. Last year they got 3 feet in one day...the year before not much. The lake freezes and you get the snowmobilers on the lake. Nothing they can't take care of and I'll be working from the house when I'm there so I don't have to go out if I don't want to... until spring of course..:rotfl: I am going to keep the townhouse here in Glenville for a while also to see which I like best full time.

That was ONTARIO, not CANADIAN. HUGE difference! There's Ontario and then there's the RoC (Rest of Canada). Right PJ? ;)

True... Very true... of course I come from a family that was tossed out of Quebec for being horse thieves... (way before I was born!!!) ;)

Well.. I have to get some sleep... night all... and....

HI MARILYN!!!!!! :yay: :yay: :yay:

Well it sounds like the choice is made:thumbsup2

When we bought our vacation house in HMB it was to test the waters if we could like living there. When we sold it, it was because for us at the time 2 full houses were too much up keep. I don't regret the choice of buying or selling. We needed to go thru both of them to really understand that we want to really live there full time.

If it doesn't turn out to be the thing you thought it was then you sell it.

Of course all this being said you have to understand the real estate market you are in to make sure that you won't be a hard place should you 'need' to sell quickly.

And for sure, Molly and I travel early and often, just give me the dates :rolleyes1

Time to check in!

Happy belated birthday to Marilyn's John :)
Here we are waiting and waiting for summer to come - been way to much rain :( But I'd rather have 70's than 100's so I'll just enjoy what I have.

Going to have to go to bed soon - got to get up and get 2 birthday cakes baked tomorrow. My nephews have the same birthday (just 7 years apart) so barbecue at DSis's house on Sunday. I was so happy on Wed, when I found our my soon-to-be 16 nephew was excited that his auntie is going to make his cake. It helped to balance all the negative crap at work.

Sometimes its good having to work - kids are at daycare instead of telling me they are bored everyday. Only hear it on weekends! But I am jealous of everyone talking about going to pools and beaches

Hey Michelle,
I didn't know you were thinking of buying and building! That property looks amazing! And you said you work from home? It looks like it would be a wonderful place to live! I say, go for it, girl!:thumbsup2

70s sound delightful to me, Shannon! Have you folks ever been to AZ?

Ken & I drove through Arizona once on the way home from WDW. That was back in 97. We stopped in Puma at an airplane museum/graveyard. It was late September and it was HOT. I kept going to stand under the wings of the planes to be in the shade, until I saw signs saying that's where the scorpions like to hang out :scared1: :scared1: Then I wouldn't go near the shade. I'm a big chicken when it comes to snakes and bugs.:scared:

It looks gorgeous! How long do you figure it'll take to build once you decide to start?

Lisa, I was at DL for TG about 3 yrs. ago. The Wed. before TG wasn't too bad (crowd-wise). TG and the next day (Fri.) were tremendously crowded. Sat. probably was too, but we left on Sat. I'm sure you've considered this, but if you can do the park before TG rather than after it would probably be better.

We had dinner at Blue Bayou so I can't help you there. As far as show reservations, the only show I can think of is Aladdin and I think you can only get preferred seating as part of a vacation package. You might look into one of the tours that include reserved seating for the parade or fireworks. I don't know what they have for Fantasmic now that the Dream Suite is open.

You have such a big group that you might want to look into a private tour. I asked about this once a couple of years ago and at that time was told you can reserve your own guide for a fixed price per hour (can't remember, but I want to say $100-150). Maybe you could design a custom tour that would include parade or fireworks seating.:confused3

The dinner Kelly described sounds fantastic! Wish I'd known about it when I was there. It was probably already sold out...
Thanks for the tips! I will look into the guide thing...if we are split the cost, it might not be that bad!

Have a good night all. Lisa

That would be PIMA not Puma. Puma is a mountain lion dearie, the same as my beloved BC Lions ....

She also forgets to mention that we went to Tombstone, Arizona as well.

It was all on our way to Las Vegas and back home after going to WDW.

If you were in Yuma in Sept., it had to be really hot! It's also on the Colorado River so it's pretty sticky as well.

Of all the places to go in AZ, why did you pick Yuma? Or maybe it was Pima, but that's a really small town in SE AZ.

I thought she meant YUMA. It's a city on the AZ/CA border, in the SW corner of the state. Is that where you stopped?

Gotta look at my old photo album for the trip as this was before digital. I kept some notes for the trip but I'm not sure if I can piece them together. I do know that the entire trip we drove was about 14,000km (8700 miles).

Well let me see. We arrived in Las Vegas on night of Sept 23. My notes say we were in PIMA on Sept 22, drove through Tucson, bought gas in Kingman, AZ ($11.28 to fill up from Tucson). We entered Arizona coming from Roswell, NM on the evening of Sept 22, and stayed at a rest area in Arizona. We then went to Tombstone and then on to Pima Air Museum on the 23rd. And we arrived into Las Vegas on the night of the 23rd staying at Excalibur hotel. Left Vegas and on to the Grand Canyon North Rim on the 26th. And then we drove home to Kamloops, BC, by Sept 27, 2008. And yes that's only the back portion of the trip.

Gee looking back in that old photo album I really should scan some of these pics in to the computer. That was quite the trip.

John says thank you for all his birthday wishes. He is now older than me again.:rotfl2:

He played games on his Wii all most of the day when we were in!!

Not that easy for us to meet up. It's a mighty big country and we're sort of scattered around, from the cities, to the mountains, to the prairies, to the oceans white with foam ... gosh, I think I feel a song coming on.

No fair teasing you Marilyn. In truth we are a bit scattered around, with some concentrated pockets in California and Florida.

Of the folks active on the thread now, Jan in Indianapolis, Indiana is the closest to me at 185 miles and then Holly in Lansing, Michigan at 219 miles.

You're all 1000's of miles away from me!!! However, on here you're all in my front room.:rotfl:

We picked up our framed Ducky Litho and the cruise pins mounted on the board (If you can't tell, I'm not working today. I had taken day off because we were supposed to be back home and celebrating today).

The framer, who is a couple of blocks from our house did a really nice job. If you're all good I'll take pictures of the pictures.

If I'm feeling industrious I'll also take photos of our neighborhood (neighbourhood for our friends to the north and east) to give you all a flavor of Lincoln Square here in Chicago.

I would love to see the framed print as I have no idea how best to do this. We also have the Order of the ditch to frame, and all our Shutter's photos!!!! My house is going to look fun!!:rotfl2:

Another fire here in No Ca. Near Watsonville, this is just south of the last 2 and close to the highway. Please pray again for containment. We are in the 100s here today in the south bay area.

Will do Nan. I was browsing your area on the web yesterday and saw the excessive heat warning and thought about you and fires.:worried:

Yea Poor Brooke just got off a 15 day Disney cruise and now gets bored adjusting to real life. Me Too!!!

::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

Marilyn--do you measure distance in miles or kilometers?

Jan :earsgirl:

Miles, unlike Europe where it is Kilometers. We love you for that!

Well, like they all say, "It's a dry heat"...

Earlier this week when I was in Scottsdale, I was walking from my car to the movie theater and my skin felt like it was going to spontaneously burst into flames. The word "searing" comes to mind...

I so remember feeling that dry searing heat. The very first time was in Palm Springs. We are always humid over here when it gets hot, but that was something else. We have also been in Phoenix when it has been 113deg. Planning on going to find some of that heat next June.

Unfortunately we're not going to make it on the Tortola cruise after all. We "have" to go to Hawaii next year for Alison's choir concert, so that's going to eat up all the vacation $$ for then.

We ARE going to WDW this December (8-16) to christen our brand new DVC membership! Anyone going to be there during that time???

Missing everyone!

Sorry you won't be on the Tortola cruise, but Hawaii sounds good to me.:)

We are at SSR from 30th Nov to 12th Dec, then we finish off with 4 nights at the Beach Club. Monica is there all the time!!
