West Gate Lakes Resort

I just got a call from West Gate Lakes Resort for a 3n/4d stay for 299.00. It includes 2 tickets to universal or sea world.

Have you ever stayed? The good, the bad or the ugly. The guy said it was not a time share. Looking for any input. How far from the parks? How far from the I drive?

I will just say this: Be very careful what you agree to.

Read all the fine print -- and then research Westgate timeshares. In order to get that "great deal" (of $100 per night in a standard Orlando, FL hotel room ), you will be required to attend a Westgate timeshare presentation.

If you do your homework, you can probably beat that price just by looking -- and you won't have to endure a timeshare presentation.

The Westgate weasels will tell you it will be 60-90 minutes. It will be as long as they can hold you there -- 4 hours is not uncommon. It will be high pressure beyond imagination. And Westgate has the reputation for being probably the sleaziest timeshare sales organization in the entire sleazy industry. Even for the timeshare industry...they are AWFUL!

We have been there, done that with Westgate, and yes...their timeshare presentation is "that bad" . Despite what the original person told you, OP, Westgate Lakes is very much a timeshare property, and their sales people are relentless, dishonest, and harassing.

That said, we enjoyed our villa and the resort. We had a two bedroom, two bathroom villa in building 500 with a view of Turkey Lake. The timeshare presentation was the only black spot on an otherwise great vacation. Here are some photos:

The other thing you need to know about Westgate -- or any other timeshare, including Disney -- is that it is almost never a good idea to buy a timeshare deed from the developer.

With most timeshares, the same contract you buy for $20,000 or more can be purchased on eBay for $1...often with free closing.

Disney is different, but you can still buy DVC 20-50% cheaper buying resale, rather than from Disney directly.

So if you really want to buy a timeshare...be smart about it. Go to school on the subject first; then buy wisely.
