Were you smacked as a child? (NOT a debate)

Yep, and then I would holler that "It didn't hurt!!!" and I would get spanked even harder!:p

Seldomly. If I may toot my own horn, I was an astute child. If I got spanked, or belted, I pretty much deserved it. But I also learned my lesson. I never did those few things again and, ergo, was seldom spanked.

And in addition, the relationship I have with my parents wasn't at all affected by getting spanked. Except that I respected my Dad more when he told me to do something because I knew he'd back it up right away. I would have respected Mom more if she had backed up her threats. She didn't, so I walked all over her.

My dad beat the crap out of me. I know you were talking abuse, btu he was the only one that did and it was either all or nothing with him.

None of my aunts, uncles, or my mom ever hit me in anyway.

My DH was hit with belts, hands, one time he didnt finish dinner when we was 2 he was stuffed into a rice sack, hung in the garage and was beaten with a spoon. His mom still laughes about the fact that she "had" to do this. I dunno, I guess it was a different culture, but I didnt think that was funny.

Spanked on the rear-end, yes. Not very often though. I was a good boy. :teeth: My brother got it more than I did. He was the wild child. ;)

Yes, by my mother.

I am probably older than most here so this was back when they still spanked kids at school. Although I never got spank at school. All in all I was a pretty good kid. I can remember one boy getting the crap beat out of him by the principal. He deserved it! I can remember me and the whole class thinking....finally someone is going to make that kid behave! If we weren't so afraid we probably would have clapped and cheered. That kid was the biggest brat. This was 4th grade.

Yep! My mom because my dad was not allowed to touch me as he was abusive, yet scared of my mom. She used anything she could find. One time she used her hand and my tail bone (I was underweight) stuck out and she hit that and she ended the spaking really quickly that time and could not stop laughing because I about broke her hand! After that she stuck with the yard stick, brush, spoon, anything!

Lots of people here have been saying that becasue their parents hit they don't want anything to do with them, but isn't it really that they were cold, and not loving, not really the hits themselves? I love my mom so much and would talk to her right now if she was not deceased!

In response to the above poster- It must be a Michigan thing because when I went to school there they had the paddle hanging on the door! the one in the closet had holes in it for if the principal had to come!! I never got it but my first grade teacher soaped my mouth out once! That was 1978 I was in first grade.I must have been at the tail end of the non PC era!

I had my share of paddlings with my mom's slipper on my backside. I'm sure I deserved it at the time as I was a little wild at home (but more of an angel at school).

Didn't hurt my relationship with my mom at all. In fact I think it led to a deeper love and understanding as I got older.

Oh yes indeedy by my mom. Every morning she would go over a reading lesson with me before school. Every time I got a word wrong, I would get smacked on the back. If I didn't get good grades in arithmetic I would get smacked. If I sassed back, (not very often) I would get smacked across the mouth or on the backside. When I got a little older, I finally told her she would NOT hit me again. And she didn't. I loved my mom and even though I didn't like being hit so much, that was how she was brought up. I understood that she was just doing her best to get me to be a good person. I never hit my son, except when he was in danger. Then only on the hiney. When he got old enough to understand and reason, I never had to hit. Only talk and explain.

LOL tiggersmom2

Thanks for all the replies. :)

Was I smacked as a child? LOL, probably not as much as I should've been. Although, when I was 16, my mom had had *enough* of my rebelliousness, smacked me upside the head and broke her pinky finger~! And I tell ya, it was a wake up call for me!

Yes my sister and I were spanked/smacked when we were ids and my kids get the same if they are bad or out of line as a punishment.
