So if a child goes to a fancy $30,000 a year school are they an expensive child? Or are the parents just pre paying for the high end retirement home ?

No. I sent my kids to private school, and that was my decision for their educational needs - not our future retirement needs, high end or not.

Probably was. I did go to public school k-12 but private college. And I figure skated competiitively for about 15 years. Ice time, costumes,and skates were all very expensive. But I was an only child and it was something that gave both my parents and myself joy. My mom has said my skating was worth every penny for the time was got to spend as a family.

Yes and no. Wasn’t sick much. Didn’t have braces. Went to public schools but I was the only one to go to a four year college. My parents didn’t pay for law school.

Nope. Public school, and I paid my own way through college. Not only that, but I started using my babysitting money when I was 12 and bought most of my own clothes from then on. I also contributed in the house as my Dad worked full time, and my Mom was in Nursing School throughout my high school years, so I did most the cooking and helped watching my youngest brother who was 11 years younger then me. So, if any thing, I think I was relatively inexpensive.

I started in a State College in 1964, and tuition was around $75 a semester. I had gone to Private HS which was $300 for the year, when I was a freshman, it was $200 for the year, so that was inflation then. I think it was expensive for my parents. My grandparents put $500 in my bank every year for room and board. My part time jobs paid $1 an hour.

I was lucky. I think my college years were wonderful, and I became a teacher and loved it!
