I was until I 4th grade. Too many checks next to my name on the board, and too many recess and after school detentions. I clammed up and honestly never returned to being chatty.

My oldest daughter got in trouble at school for being too chatty. She would not only talk with those around her, she would get out of her seat and go over to a friend across the room.

With people I knew, yes, definitely. With people I didn't know I was extremely shy and quiet.

Nope. I was known as the quiet, shy, tall girl. Now I'm just tall.

Very much. They actually created a “ chatterbox of the year” award just for me when I was in second grade. I am a lot more shy and reserved now unless I really know you then I don’t quit talking (while internally telling myself to shut up)

In my experience, kids say a lot about nothing. They ramble on and on and on and on. I've learned to silence them mentally.

Only around family and close friends. Around people I don't know, I can be very silent. I've had several friends tell me that they didn't like me on first meeting me because they thought I was standoffish, when really I was just super painfully shy.

I got in trouble for talking in school my entire life. I got detention once for talking while I was walking into class and the bell hadn't even rang yet so I thought that was unfair and my mom called my teacher about it. The next day, I went to that class and asked where I had to report for detention and my teacher said, "Don't worry about detention, I talked to your mom and now I see you get it honest." lol

When I was in 1st grade the nun I had wrote on my report card what I great student I was and that I loved to talk. We had our rows of desks set up as a row of girls and then boys and so on. My punishment was that she put my desk in the boys row. I was very embarrassed and that is pretty much my only memory of 1st grade
