We had a similar experience at Cape May in August except ours was for number of guests. We had an ADR for 6 but my mother decided not to join us on our trip so she wasn’t there. The server automatically charged us for 5 people (our 6th was our infant) and we also got charged the automatic gratuity for a party of 6. We caught it and she removed the extra person but we didn’t realize until after that we had tipped on the 5th person already which wasn’t refunded of course. Always check your receipts before you leave the restaurant
when an infant make you a party of 6 you are charged the automatic tip even if only 5 eat. since infant is free would not change tip amount. so you were charged correctly even with only 5 eating. I am just using a number but say meal was $40.00 a person which would be a bill of $200.00 for 5 adults with one free infant so tip would be based on that amount not the $240.00 for 6 adults with one free infant. hope that makes since infant made you party a party of six. we had that last summer with our 4 month old granddaughter who made us a party of 6
I’m not sure that’s what she meant. She seems to think that each person was charged $42 and thus, her children were charged as adults.
If, in fact, she was charged $42 per person, that would mean she paid more for the kids and less for the adults than the stated price.
Either way, she was charged the overall correct amount. I’m not sure why she thinks she was overcharged, and I would love for her to come back and clarify so that we can assist.
Sounds to me like you either averaged out the cost yourself or they did, but the result appears to be close to the same or maybe even better for you. Not sure what you thought the cost should be but Disney is expensive especially multiplied by 10. We often spend well over 200 for four adults when we eat in a signature but we also get a bottle of wine. My husband is always shocked because he pays little attention to the price until the bill comes and then invariably says...how could we spend so much?
I would encourage everyone to look closely at the bill before leaving the restaurant! I learned this the hard way on our first family trip when I found out on the way out of the park we were charged $17 for "free" apple slices for my then 2-year-old. I will always read receipts before leaving because I'm still mad about the $17.
If you order anything for your 2 year old they can charge you for it. The only things free are things they take from your plate. At buffets the assumption is that they are eating off of your plate, though they don't hold you to it literally.
Though I don't know if they offered you the apple slices or if they were part of the meal. And even if ordered off a menu $17 for apple slices is expensive even at WDW.

We were only a party of 5. Our original ADR was for 6. My mother didn’t come so we were 4 people eating and 1 infant. The server charged us for 5 people eating plus 1 infant so charged for an extra person plus automatic gratuity.
ETA: we should have only payed for 4 people and tip for 4 people. We were charged for 5 people plus tip for 5 people. They took the 5th person off when I showed them the error, but didn’t realize until after we left that I should have been able to adjust the tip accordingly. The server still received a tip for 5 people. It’s a drop in the bucket over a week at Disney, but just the principle of the matter.

I was reading that that you went from 6 plus an infant to 5 and an infant which was what we were and many people think since only 5 pay there should be no auto tip

When you check in at a restaurant podium, usually you are asked to verify the party size. Please let them know how many adults and how many between 3 and 9 years old. I work at a set price restaurant and must ring into the computer what the slip on the table says unless I get a manager or general teller (banker) involved to change the party mix. Any discrepancies are tracked.
1) Check the "Sticky" at the start of the Dining Category.
2) The prices are listed for adults and kids.
3) As mentioned above, just remember to add the AUOMATIC 18% tip for parties of 6-or-more.
