We enjoyed a late lunch at Tusker House today. Food was good, and we enjoyed the characters and break from the hustle & noise in the parks.
We are a group of 10, including 2 kids under age 9 and were charged $42 per person x 10, plus tax & gratuity, which was a much larger bill than we expected, but we didn't question it with our server. After we got home tonight, we started to wonder if there should have been a cheaper price for the kids?
Does anyone know? And if we were overcharged, is there anything we could do about it now? We won't be back at animal kingdom during our vacation.

We have Ohana reservations later this week and my husband is now saying he isn't sure he wants to go because he doesn't want another insanely expensive surprise when we get the bill after dinner. Where can I find out in advance how much dinner at Ohana will be? I couldn't find prices on Disney website, and allears.net just has a price range. Thanks!

It looks like you were charged for dinner service and the 2 children 9 years old or under should have been billed at $19.99 instead of the adult rate of $41.99. So, about $40.00 of your total was improperly charged. I don't remember the tip policy but I suspect it is added automatically for large parties. I would certainly contact WDW customer service and give them an opportunity to remedy this for you.

I agree to contact guest services about the overcharge. Also when you go to Ohana or any other meal verify with the server the ages of the children.

There is a kids' price, but I don't know exactly what it is. Are you staying at a WDW resort? If so, I would go to concierge to see if they can help you. If not, I would contact WDW guest services regarding the issue and make sure you hold onto your receipt! If you were a party of 10, you would have automatically been charged gratuity.

I just checked our bill from O'hana on Dec. 19 and it was $163.39 for 3 guests, 10 and over (this included the gratuity I included, though I don't remember what percentage I gave). So, you can probably count on at least $50 per person over the age of 10 for O'hana. It wasn't worth it, IMHO. O'hana has seriously gone downhill over the years. Less entertainment and the service was not good at all.

Lunch/dinner price at Tusker House is $47.93 for adults and $28.76 for kids, tax included. Being a party of 10, an 18% gratuity was also automatically figured in. So, your bill SHOULD have been...

$47.93 x 8 = $383.44
$28.76 x 2 = $57.52
$383.44 + $57.52 = $440.96 x 1.18 = $520.33

Total bill SHOULD have been $520.33. Assume yours was $565.57? ($47.93 x 10 = $479.30 x 1.18)

Lunch is ~$48 for adults and ~$29 for kids. So, that works out to $442. You indicated they charged $42 per person, which also works out to $442. Its interesting that they charged it that way, but the net effect is the same. You were charged correctly.

ETA: $42 per person would actually be $440 (I made a slight math error), but close enough.

I would bet that you were charge adult price for the kiddo's... Plus the tip on that size party is added automatically, I think 18% is the tip... If you were unaware you then tipped on top of the tip already included.

When our kids were close to that age, when we would order at buffet, we would let the server know ahead of time that they were under 10, and double check the bill before signing off. My DH is a numbers guys so he will have a ballpark idea of what the bill should as we order, Its funny I guess its rubbed off on me, I also have become a numbers gal I have caught lots of times that I was overcharged, as the grocery or store and in a restaurants.

We have experienced servers letting you know that the tip was included and/or if you want to leave more you could, or said nothing at all.

As a suggestion you might want to head to your resort guest service, and show them the bill, and they should be able to help you from there. Maybe crediting your account or a gift card or something. With that said, more than likely they will be able to adjust the overcharge on the kids meals, but I really don't know if or how they would be able to deal with the server tip.

The most important thing is not to wait, deal with any questions concerning your bill before you leave the resort at check out to go home.

I would encourage everyone to look closely at the bill before leaving the restaurant! I learned this the hard way on our first family trip when I found out on the way out of the park we were charged $17 for "free" apple slices for my then 2-year-old. :scared: I will always read receipts before leaving because I'm still mad about the $17.o_O

That happened to us at Cape May in October. I noticed when the bill came that our 8yo son was charged as an adult. When I asked the waitress she was like, "well, it says 3 adults on your ticket so that's what it charged." (As though that was logical enough, and acceptable). I said, "clearly, he's a child". With a huff she went back and changed it.

I think they just push out the tickets based on the reservation, and I noticed that often the reservation online will say "3 adults" even if next to the name it says "8 years old".

No, because the adult price is about $48, so that would be about $480 for 10 people.

The OP was charged the correct overall price. Whether she was charged correctly at $48 for the adults and $29 for the kids or incorrectly at $42 per person doesn’t really matter. The total is the same.

Interesting. If you are correct, then the server just figured it out in a different way but with the same outcome. Not a huge deal, but I could understand the confusion for the OP especially since they didn't know how much the meal would be per person to start with.

I got the info from the buffet/AYCTE pricing thread, so I’m pretty confident that it’s correct.

Except the OP said they were charged $42 per person for all 10 people.

Except the OP said they were charged $42 per person for all 10 people.

OP stated $42 per person not including tax. Tax is 6.5%.

That's why I specifically stated that what I posted was what they SHOULD have been charged.

If they were charged $42 per person for 10 people, they were undercharged, and should be happy.

Whenever we had reservations and our kids were under 10 we always had to make sure we mentioned to the server as all the reservations ended up saying all adults like a previous poster said even though the kids were on the MDE app etc. Sometimes the hostess would correct it at the check in desk too. The server who didn't make the change even though they could see that the kids were under 10 could have been trying to inadvertently pad her tip. One time when we were at DLR and our older son was 11 the server only charged us for kids price (knowingly) for him as he hardly ate anything and that resulted in a higher tip for him from me as it was much appreciated!

We had a similar experience at Cape May in August except ours was for number of guests. We had an ADR for 6 but my mother decided not to join us on our trip so she wasn’t there. The server automatically charged us for 5 people (our 6th was our infant) and we also got charged the automatic gratuity for a party of 6. We caught it and she removed the extra person but we didn’t realize until after that we had tipped on the 5th person already which wasn’t refunded of course. Always check your receipts before you leave the restaurant::yes::

Same thing happened at our first meal our first trip. Charged my 2 year old the child price at Ohana. They did fix it immediately though and I made sure to mention he’s 2 at every other buffet we went to.

OP- I hope you are able to clarify the charges and get any error fixed.

I fail at reading LMAO. I blame the cold and will say my brain is frozen. Yep, that's it.
