We're touring Disney like a 3 year old (2TRs in 1!)- UPDATE 5/18 pg. 46

Another great update.

Love your shirt - so cute!

I have decided I am never having butter beer. It sounds disgustingly rich and full of calories.

So what is this about the dueling dragon coaster not running side by side anymore. For real????? I love those coasters. They broke my fear of inverted loops and I will be forever grateful (although I did lose one of my favorite earrings on that ride).

What a great evening. Did you ride the Hulk? I love  that ride.

You are totally making me want to go back there. The pool looks like a blast and I can't wait to hear about Bubba Gumps!

Butterbeer is definitely very sweet. It is like drinking liquid butterscoth. I personally prefer the frozen one as it doesn't seem as heavy or sweet. Maybe if they threw in a little alcoholic portion.....

Yes! The dueling dragon coaster doesn't run side by side anymore. I guess there were a few accidents a while back of objects hitting riders. I guess things were flying from one coaster to another or fell out of pockets, etc and hit rides on the other coaster. I can only imagine how thrilling it would be to have them going at the same time!

We did go on the Hulk. I actually liked the Dragon's Challenge more, but I really like inverted coasters.

Oh, I don't have any pics of Bubba Gump's because they all had my nephew in it and I didn't want to post pics of the family without asking them. It was good, though.

Love the Suess update!

Thanks! It's a cute area. More Seuss area to come in the next update.

The consumption of food and alcohol is always more enjoyable when it takes place next to a body of water. It's a proven fact. :lmao:

I still have yet to try the frozen butterbeer. I've only had the regular one and enjoyed it very much.

Love the meet and greets, even if your little one wasn't familiar with the characters. What a brave girl.

very true my friend. Especially when said objects of food and drink are brought to you by someone else so you do not have to move out of your lazy lounge chair.

She recogized them as part of the Dr. Seuss books, but since we don't have all of them yet, she didn't know all of their names. She knows them now, though!

I finally finished Harry Potter! Oh man, I hope that they really do expand (I forgot where I read that; did you write that?) so that when it's all done, there will be more for me to see if/when I ever get to go.

I love how there's the box for the dragon next to Hagrid's hut!

I personally think the Dr. Seuss characters are kind of scary! I wouldn't want to be near them.

I heard they are expanding the park, but I think it will take a while before we get all the details.

There were a lot of fun details when you walk through the Harry Potter area. It was even more fun since I hadn't been there before and didn't know what I would find.

Um, I think that Thing 1 and Thing 2 are scary.. .

Once we finishing making the rounds with the various Dr. Seuss characters, we decided it was time that we went over to check out the other park. So far this trip we had only checked out Islands of Adventure since that was where the WWoHP was. We had also promised our little girl that we would take her to see a special show, and that show was over at Universal Orlando.

We didn’t get too far making our way out of Islands of Adventure before we stumbled upon another friendly character.

ry%3D400

Why, yes, that would be Woody Woodpecker! Do kids nowadays even know who that is? Our little girl sure did, or seemed to. She was so excited to meet ……Red Robin! (yum!) Yes, she thought it was Red Robin, from one of her favorite restaurants. I found it hilarious. If anyone tried to argue with her and say that it was Woody Woodpecker, she would get very upset and defensive. “No! It’s Red Robin!” Okay, okay, sheesh.

Anyways, back to our mission at hand. It was time for the show over at Universal. We were heading out to A Day in the Park with Barney.

ry%3D400

Sigh. Yes, we were going to watch the big purple dinosaur in action. As we were researching the trip, we saw this Barney show and knew there would be no escaping it. We would have to go see it at least once. We were a little early for the next show, so we passed some time at the indoor play area. Then it was time for a little preshow.

ry%3D400

Our little girl watched the little show, but really, she was only there for one reason. Barney.

ry%3D400

Now, as much as I cringe whenever I hear his voice or hear some of the insanely catchy songs (because I know they will then be running on repeat in my head) the show actually was pretty cute. It was basically the most popular songs from the show sung by Barney, Baby Bop and BJ. Plus, it was just short enough that I enjoyed it, at least once. I don’t know if I would have enjoyed it if I had to sit through it multiple times. The other bonus – the theater was air conditioned.

Our reward for sitting through the Barney show was a special meet and greet after the show ended. I had done my research on the show and taken note of which exit would ensure an early spot in line, the faster to get it all done and over with. Well, my research paid off, we were second in line.

Does it surprise you that our little girl gave Barney the biggest hug?

ry%3D400

She looks like such a big girl in this picture, it makes me a little sad. They grow up so fast!

ry%3D400

After saying good-bye to Barney, we high tailed it back to the hotel. It was swimming time. Those of you who have traveled to the World in the summer know that those pool breaks are a life saver. We were anxious to cool off before the daily thunderstorm rolled in. It was also our third day at Universal and we were only there for one more night at the Hard Rock. So it was back to WWoHP for the evening, our last planned venture there.

ry%3D400

I definitely enjoying touring Hogsmeade more when it’s evening. The sun has set and it just gives the area a slightly more authentic feel, probably because the books tend to get darker and gloomier as they progress.

The sign at the entrance says “Please respect the spell limits.”

ry%3D400

I seriously do love the Hogwarts express. If they really do expand the park and include rides on the train, I am so there!

ry%3D400

I mean, I already have this fantastic little lanyard. Yes, while I would like to think that I would be sorted into Gryffindor, I am pretty sure I’d end up in Hufflepuff instead. We’ll just continue to pretend and go about in my little fantasy, shall we?

ry%3D400

This looks like a fun little plant shop, no?

ry%3D400

Since that was one of those false store fronts, I decided it was about time I headed inside the Three Broomsticks.

ry%3D400

See the windows at the top?

ry%3D400

Every once in a while, you would see a shadow pass the window or across the ceiling. I stared at the ceiling for a long time with my camera hoping to capture it, but to no avail. There is only so long I can stand there before I get summoned by the little one.

We had fun just walking around the park and going on a few rides. Of course I ended up on the Dragon’s Challenge about 4 more times, in a row. We split up briefly so our neice and nephew could go on the Hulk and we took our little girl on one last walk through of Seuss Land.

It was definitely getting late by that point and we decided to head back to get some dinner at Citywalk.

ry%3D400

We ended up at Bubba Gump Shrimp again, mostly because it was the one place we could all agree on and that didn’t have a super long wait. The next morning, we packed up our bags and checked out of the hotel and loaded the car. Our Universal park tickets were still good for that last day, so we wanted to get all squared away early on. We would move to the new hotel later on in the day when we were done with the park.

We had already done all the attractions that we had wanted to do over at Islands of Adventure, but barely had any time over at Universal, so that was where we were planning to spend a majority of our day. That was the plan anyways…..

I don’t have a ton of pics from this day, but I do remember that we hit up the Simpson’s ride, the Men in Black ride, the Mummy Returns ride and visited the purple dinosaur again. My thoughts on the rides??

Simpsons – um, as I was never really a huge Simpsons fan, it isn’t something that I would need to do again. I made the mistake of listening to everyone else around me when they said that our little girl would be fine on this ride. It is motion simulator type ride, but it was definitely not for my little girl (the no thrill seeking type of girl). She had the death grip on my arm and I was holding on to her for dear life. It didn’t help that we were apparently trying to escape an evil clown or something from killing us. Um, scary much? Funny part was that both my husband and my brother-in-law were in the back row of the car with hands over their eyes because they were so nauseous. Nice. Please don’t throw up on us over in the front of the car.

Men in Black – fun, but nothing special. Reminds me of a darker version of Buzz Lightyear. I did okay on the scoring, but the random guy next to me totally blew my score away. Our little girl was off with my husband during this ride. He was pretty much done with rides at this point, so we had a single rider in our car. I think our little girl was off with my husband at this point….

ry%3D400

The Mummy ride – I really liked this ride! I thought it was a lot of fun and made my husband go on it afterwards. I told him he wouldn’t feel sick and that he would like it. Funny part – I ended up sitting next to the same single rider again. Weird coinky-dink.

My hubby will kill me for posting this pic, but…….

ry%3D400

There was barely any wait for most of the rides and we were also able to utilize the express pass thing since we had stayed on property so we knocked out a ton of rides early on. The rest of the family decided to go on the ET ride and Jaws, but I decided to hit up Fievel’s playground with our little girl.

ry%3D400

She wasn’t able to slide down so she decided she would just walk on down instead. Probably better since I’m sure the surface was piping hot. It was getting hot out.

ry%3D400

This playground also had a mini “waterpark”/splash area and our little girl thought she would test out the splash area.

ry%3D400

Apparently I should have packed an extra change of clothes because she got carried away.

ry%3D400

Dripping wet. Soaking wet. Good thing it was super hot out. Don’t worry, she soon dried out and was still a happy camper.

ry%3D400

(continued - 2 posts for this update!)

Now, by this point in time, it was still about midday and we were already done with Universal. We still wanted to make the most out of our park tickets, so we headed back over to Islands of Adventure. We were going to hit up our favorite things one last time. But first, does someone need help puting out a fire?

ry%3D400

Our little girl’s pick for her fave attractions? Duh – Seuss land! We decided to grab a quick counter service meal at the Circus McGurkus Café of pizza and drinks. We were able to catch a show towards the end of our meal, and you will see that both Thing 1 and Thing 2 were present and accounted for here.

ry%3D400

You know that seeing the show means…..character greets afterwards. For some reason, she really took a liking to Sam I Am.

ry%3D400

ry%3D400

She then got an interesting little interaction with the Grinch (which I missed since I was off getting some frozen slurpee type drinks)

Huge hug for the Grinch.

ry%3D400

Posing for a pic, but someone is not cooperating. Someone is being cranky pants.

ry%3D400

Maybe he needs another hug.

ry%3D400

Why didn’t he hug me back? Why won’t he wave good-bye to me?

ry%3D400

Poor little girl. She hadn’t seen How the Grinch Stole Christmas so she had no idea that this Grinch was just staying in character. I guess she kept running up and hugging him and he kept backing away from her. Poor thing. She left saying she didn’t like the Grinch because he didn’t give her a hug. She got to meet Thing 2 also, but I can’t seem to find the picture. My brother-in-law might have it on his files because I think we have a video on our camera.

Anyways, we did one last tour through Hogwarts and Hogsmeade. See you later Prof. Dumbledore!

ry%3D400

Perused the news bulletin board one last time.

ry%3D400

Took one last ride on the Dueling Dragons. Then it was time to peace out. Time to check in to the new hotel and just relax.

ry%3D400

Bye Universal, it’s been real. A new pool was calling out to us. We checked into the Hilton Orlando hotel and quickly found the pool. Soon we were thoroughly relaxed after a leisurely dip in the pool, a round or two in the lazy river and some poolside snacks. We were lucky enough to score club level at this hotel for a fantastic deal so we also enjoyed the offerings in the lounge that evening. I particularly loved their freshly baked cookies every day.

Now here is where our vacation completely changed. We had plans to split up for the rest of the trip – they were going to do SeaWorld and we were going to see the mouse. However, there was this little problem of a storm named Irene on the horizon. It was slated to hit Florida within the few days and continue up the coast, hitting our home area of New England on the Monday that our flights were scheduled to land. So inevitably, the flights were already being cancelled. Not a hugs deal on our end because I typically leave a day or two after a vacation free for laundry, to regroup, etc. However, for the rest of the faily – not so good. The kids were going to start school the day after we got back so they couldn’t risk delays and canceled flights. (well, our nephew didn’t care, he was fine with missing school for an extended vacation, but our niece was going to be starting middle school so she was going to be very upset to miss the first day).

So long story short, after we were all showered, we congregated in one hotel room to look into changing flights. We also had a later flight in the day then my SIL, so we weren’t worried about our flight. We expected the storm to be over by then. We ordered some room service and hunkered down for the evening. I kept the little girls occupied until they passed out. After a very long wait, they managed to get their flights changed to an earlier date (Saturday – the day after next) and would therefore only have one last day with us in Florida. So we had to make some changes and forego our plans to hit up Disney on the next day and just spend the day with the family at the pool. We would just go on Sunday after they left for the airport (they had a super early flight).

When we woke up the next morning, my little side of the family went exploring.

Wow, that’s big firepit. S’mores anyone?

ry%3D400

So we spent the day by the pool, just relaxing and doing not much of anything. It was fun, but I have to admit, it was killing me to be so close to Disney and not had one little Disney experience yet. Not even a peek. But that was all about to change that evening. Do you know where we were headed that night for a bit? Does this clue you in?

ry%3D400

Yup, it was finally time for a little Downtown Disney! A nice Jessie window displays deserves the Jessie pose. And our first princess sightings!

ry%3D400

Cinderella apparently deserved not one, but two poses.

ry%3D400

Take two.

ry%3D400

It was a nice way to spend the evening, walking in and out of the stores at DTD. We didn’t stay there for dinner, though. We ended up piling back into the car and drove to Celebration to a nice little sushi restaurant. It was really good, see? Even my little girl agrees.

ry%3D400

And yes, even though we did not enter the Disney parks, our little girl was already rockin’ her pin trading lanyard. You know she was missing the Disney magic too. So even though we didn’t really do much of anything that day, it was a nice day with the family. We would be sad to say good-bye to everyone the next day.

How cute that she thought Woody was the Red Robin :) A lot of the Universal characters seem out of date to me so I'd imagine there are a lot of confused kiddos.

I love the pics with Barney as they brought back many memories. Caitlin was 2 when Barney came on tv so he was huge at our house for many years.

I love the pic of your husband. It looks like he was having fun but we better keep that a secret from him

:yay: for arriving back at Disney!

Yes, my nephew tried to correct her a few times (they have a love/hate brother/sister relationship)and she was adamant that it was Red Robin. I agree with you though, there were a lot of outdated elements at Universal.

I have many childhood memories of barney when I was babysitting my cousin. That darn song would be stuck in my head for days.

I have an even better pic of him and my nephew with matching headpieces, but couldn't post that. Classic.

It's all Disney from here on out!!! :yay: and we will meet you guys in a few updates!

That's too cute that your little girl thought that Woody was Red Robin! I guess they do look sort of similar!

That stinks that Irene caused your trip to be changed! Hopefully it didn't affect you guys too much more!

Hahaha I'd be going NUTS if I were that close to Disney and not going there! Good call on DTD! :thumbsup2

Love your update. The Grinch pics are so funny looks like he is thinking why is this small person hugging me!

Oh my goodness, I fell out when you said your little one thought that Woody Woodpecker was Red Robin. :lmao: But it's so obvious she did, because you're right, kids today don't know who the majority of these characters are. I love that she was convinced though that he was Red Robin and would accept no other explanation.

You definitely made the best of your time at Universal I think. The Universal side is a little bit lacking. The Mummy is definitely my favorite attraction there. I just wish it was longer!

Love the interaction with the Grinch! I hope that she wasn't too upset that he wouldn't give her a hug though. You sat through Barney twice? What a good mom, I don't think I could have done it once. :lmao:

Suess Landing looks really cute! I think we'll probably save a trip to US for when DD is much older though.

HAHAH! That's hilarious that she thought it was Red Robin. I have to admit, he does look similar! (I LOVE RED ROBIN. BEST FRIES EVER.)

Oh wow. They have a Barney show??? I had no clue! I'm not gonna lie I used to be obsessed with Barney, so my child self would have absolutely loved to see him in a show AND MEET HIM!

Um... I feel like the Grinch person was a little odd. How can you just stand there like a statue when there's a little girl trying to hug you? I feel like if he was REALLY trying to be in character he would have hugged her back because the Grinch's heart was supposed to grow THREE SIZES. Lame! :(

Okay, I need your very honest opinion here. My sister is kinda resisting us going back to Disney this summer (no clue what her deal is) and she really wants us to go to Universal. I have literally zero interest in anything there, and nobody in my family is into Harry Potter. If you were taking Harry Potter World out of the equation, would you think it was worth it to go?

Is this the same hotel yall stayed in at the end of your February trip? I remember the lazy river. :) YAY FOR DTD!

I thought it was funny too. The things these little people come up with. I guess if you had no idea who Woody woodpecker was, it totally makes sense. She has been to red Robin a few times.

At this point in the TR, Irene was only causing more issues for my SIL's family. I'm not saying that our trip wasn't impacted......:rolleyes1 more on that to come.

The only thing getting me through the lack of Disney was the promise of Disney to come and the fact that I was a HP nut. So seeing WWoHP helped. Once you took that factor out, I was ready for my Disney fix!

Love your update. The Grinch pics are so funny looks like he is thinking why is this small person hugging me!

Yes, he was staying in character for that whole interaction. Since my daughter hadn't seen the movie or read the book yet, she had no idea why he was being so "mean."

I thought it was pretty funny too. we should compile a list of things and between my daughter and Joaquin, I am sure we'd have quite the list. There are definitely some outdated characters and areas in Universal. She was absolutely positive that it was Red Robin.

Yes, I agree. the Mummy was fun and a little too short. I didn't get a chance to ride the Rip, Ride and Rock-it though. It was down for a large portion of our trip and that made me nervous....

She kept trying to hug him and then asked us later why he was being mean. My husband said a lot of people watching kept saying "awwww" and stuff like that because she just kept hugging him.

And I must confess, I sat through Barney once and my husband sat though it once. We like to share the wealth.

Seuss Landing is cute, but I have to say that I really like Disney better! Duh!

HAHAH! That's hilarious that she thought it was Red Robin. I have to admit, he does look similar! (I LOVE RED ROBIN. BEST FRIES EVER.)

Red Robin = delicious fries. So good, especially with that seasoning. Drool.

Yes, there is a Barney show. And I have to admit, it wasn't too annoying to sit through. It was like a greatest hits show - all the best songs.

And about the grinch - I know, right? We managed to get the point across this Christmas that the Grinch isn't always so mean. My husband said she pretty much backed him into the wall with her hugs and the crowd was just melting behind him. Couldn't he just throw out one teeny tiny hug?

As for your questions, that's a tough one. What is her big thing against Disney - is it better rides at Universal, HP or something in particular? If you guys aren't as big into HP, I am not sure it's worth it, honestly. They raised the tickets prices significantly when they opened up WWoHP and most of Universal is outdated. Islands of Adventure is kinda cool, but not that different from many amusement parks that you would go to.

I mean, if she mostly wants to go for big thrill rides, I think you get better ones at BG or KD. Is there a way you could compromise and do half Universal and half Disney? Pricey, I know. We got 10 day non expiration PH tickets in August, so it was expensive in August. But in the long run, this will last us for two more trips because we got 10 park day tickets along with 10 water park days. So we were able to mix Universal with Disney.

There are a couple of okay things at Universal - the Hulk is fun, the Mummy is fun, Dueling Dragons is fun. i think you could enjoy the Harry Potter area even if you aren't huge fans, it's just fun to walk around and look at everything. But I don't know that I would pick it over Disney. Just my opinion.

Alcohol in butter beer may convince me to try it. :rotfl: Butterbeer shots maybe????

OMG - I can't believe your little girl went on the Simpsons. :scared1: I remember when that ride was still Back to the Future. Definitely not a ride for a non-thrill seeker.

Too funny that you ended up with the same single rider on two rides. I think the Mummy ride is pretty cool.

Two trips to Bubba Gumps? My son Nicholas really wants to eat there. Maybe this summer.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Irene pummeling New England on the same Sunday you family was supposed to leave? :confused3 I think someone may have had a flight delay.

:cool1: Woo hoo for DTD!

THANK YOU SO MUCH for that response! I appreciate it so much.

To be honest I have no idea what her deal is. It's odd. And yeah, that's really what I figured. She lives not 20 minutes from Busch Gardens and obviously has Kings Dominion as an option too... so it shouldn't be roller coasters. I really have no idea! But there's no way I'd go all the way to Florida and NOT go to Disney. So... we're trying to figure it out right now. Thank you again for your comment, it's really helpful!

oooh, Butterbeer shots sound like fun. Although more than one and I'd most likely be drunk under a table somewhere.

Yes, the Simpsons was definitely not the ride to take my little girl on. Poor thing. She was so excited to be tall enough to go on a ride with the whole family and then she is scared out of her mind. I was seriously hoping that the ride didn't scar her from more rides at Disney.

Bubba Gumps was good, but we ended up there twice more out of ease and laziness. I prefer to not frequent the same place twice on a vacation if I don't have to, unless it's really good.

You are correct. Irene was wreaking havoc on New England that Sunday. Our original flights were all for Monday, but my SIL ended up changing their flights to the Saturday so they would arrive before the storm hit. My BIL was really concerned about his patio furniture because they had just gotten it. Someone may have had flight issues, and it may not have been my SIL.....:rolleyes1

No probs! Just my opinion, but then again, I do love my Disney! Good luck planning!

Um, and how about Once this week? B&TB is one of my fave movies and so I loved this twist on the tale. Looks like they are setting the stage up for something.....

I just had to comment, that I loved the twist on Once this week! I thought it was such an interesting way for them to go about it. I actually felt really bad for him!

Ahaha, I just left a comment on your TR! I am slowly getting caught up.

Me too! I totally felt for Rumple. Poor thing, pining away. Looks like they are trying to humanize him a bit more than the evil Queen, who just seems evil.

Oh, side note - do you watch the Voice? Our man Tony Lucca is on it! The teeny bopper inside me totally squealed when I saw him again.
