We're not going skydiving...

I love auctions!
DS's school has a big "Fun Night" every year. It's a fund raiser, sponsored by the PTA. Carnival games, bake sale, lots of fun and silliness.

But the big centerpiece is the auction. We get lots of fun stuff donated by local businesses and families- baskets with movie rental cards and popcorn, sports equipment, gardening supplies, video games, spa items, wines and candles, jewelry and the like. We make baskets and displays and have a *huge* silent auction with these.

But there are always a few bigger ticket items that are a lot more interesting. We had a fancy professional auctioneer to handle those... one of those funny, fast talking charmers. He was resplendent in his creased Wranglers, expensive cowboy hat and bolo tie. He just makes you want to raise your hand to bid on stuff you never knew you wanted before.

We had a lot of sports memorabilia this year. A Terry Bradshaw autographed football, an Eddie Balfour autographed hockey jersey, various photos and the like. A baseball autographed by somebody famous that went for over $400. Tickets to hard-to-get sporting events, and suites at various games.

And a skydiving package for two.

I love airplanes. And thrill rides.

DH- not so much.

This is a guy who refuses to ride Goofy's Barnstormer, on the grounds that he'd probably have a heart attack from the danger and excitement.

He's standing across the room from me. When the auctioneer announces the skydiving package, DH looks at me. In panic.

I grin back at him. Raise my eyebrows in the "Please?" expression.

He pales. I act like I'm gonna raise my hand. He looks like he's gonna pass out. Just the IDEA of skydiving makes him woozy. He shoots panicked and angry looks my way.

Now I know what Delswife means when she talks about having eye fights.

Lucky for DH, the auctioneer announces SOLD! To my neighbor and buddy, who's standing right next to me. Whose husband is not in attendance, so cannot forbid her to bid via eye fighting... That's what he gets for working late and missing the auction.

I hope the parachutes are included in the skydiving package.

Me? I did get to purchase something from the fancy auctioneer, much to the aggravation of my DH. I bought 4 1-day park hoppers which were donated by the Mouse, for $175. A bargain for me, and it was FUN to raise my hand and give that sweet talking, charming fast-talking fancy auctioneer my money!

What a fun story!

I didn't know the Mouse would donate tickets? I am in charge of our basket every year and next year I will write to them and ask for tickets too!:teeth: This year I got Silver Dollar City and Six Flags, but wow, Disney would cause some real excitement!!! Enjoy your prize!

My Dh went sky diving for his 35 birthday. He LOVED it, I satyed home and prayed the emergency room didn't call.;)

I LOVE auctions...silent, live...doesn't matter to me. I could drop a fortune at those things. DH tries to keep me away using more than just eye-fighting! :p

Very Cool! Sorry you didnt get to bid on it.
We just had a silent auction at our "Pizza/Bingo night". Sky Diving would have been a great item. Do you mind me asking how much it went for? Our biggest item was a ride to school on a fire truck. :teeth:

Kathy - Maybe your neighbor would be willing to take you skydiving if her husband doesn't want to go :teeth:. And I, too, am pleasantly suprised that Disney donated tickets to a school fund-raiser :).

CamColt,

The skydiving was for two people, and it went for $125... which is about half price.

Krista, want to go skydiving with me sometime? :teeth:

EEK!! No thanks, Kathy. But if you decide to skydive, let me know. I'll definitely come out and watch YOU leap out of a plane :teeth:. Hey - we could make it a DIS meet ::yes::. Surely some other brave DFW DISers would be willing to jump out of a plane with you.

I do, I do!!! I have always wanted to go skydiving. Stephen won't even consider it. It's on my to-do list. Some day, it will happen. Wish I lived in Texas, KathyTX, we could have a sky-diving Dismeet.

I don't think I'll be going skydiving but Kate might if you need a partner someday. I'm not sure mom could take it though!
