Not yet....but we are considering a major life change here.

The sniper has really made us take a better look at our quality of life. We're tired of living in violence (not that Sweden doesn't have it's share of problems) the rat race, pollution, traffic, etc.

People are so stressed out with daily living as it is. When you factor in the recent sniper murders, it just makes you take a second look, one that is long over due.

People are so rude and nasty to each other anymore. Yes, there is still plenty of good in the world...but I can't see the human race getting any better.

Maybe living in Sweden will improve our lifestyle somewhat, maybe not.

Heck, can't get any worse!

And if it doesn't improve, what have we lost?

The U.S. of A. will always be here. (Hopefully! )

Sweden is a really "pure" country.
We learned about it in earth science.
They are pretty close to perfect.

Just curious - why Sweden?

Why not? :D

Actually, we have two friends that moved over there. Their DH's are from Sweden. They moved over thinking they'd hate it.

That was 18 years ago, and they're still there, and speak the language fluently.

They've already clued us on on several aspects, such as food. They cook all their meals mostly from scratch. Not a whole lot of frozen food to choose from (that'll be the biggest thing for me to overcome!)

They've also told us how expensive gas is, which is why they walk and bicycle everywhere they need to be. They live in a lovely village where everthing is within an easy walking distance.

Wow... and my younger kids think moving back to Illinois would be a big change.....

Blondie, but dearie to they get GH in Sweden?

I wonder if you can see the northern lights from Sweden? I have wanted to visit Norway for a long time. The scandinavian countries sound so interesting. Lots of water, gorgeous scenery, and wildlife. :D

Good luck to you and your family! If you go, post lots of pics okay!:D

No GH???

That's it, I'm staying here!;)

Soounds good to me, and I AGREE with YOU! I thought Miami was the ONLY rude city in this country. Also, did you check out the crime stats there? What type of punishement do they have for criminals? How much to buy/rent a House? Let me know, I might be JOINING you! ;)

Dan and Becki, don't you worry!

If moving to Sweden comes to fruition, I'll have THE BIGGEST DIS meet/farewell party this side of the country!

(sorry Mom, I planned on calling you in the morning) :(

One of my lawpartners just got back from Sweden a month or so ago. He went over to pick out his Volvo. They drove it for the two weeks they were in the country and then had it shipped back to the US. Evidently, you get a decent price and the manufacturer handles all of the paperwork. He really enjoyed the country.

Blondie - I have been considering moving out of country for about a year now also because of the downward spiral i see america has been in for quite awhile.
but, when i mention it to anyone, the typical reply is that i am disloyal to america for considering leaving.
anyways, while i still wish to leave because i dont see the future here getting better, only worse, my DS has expressed a strong desire to stay in america at least till he is in college, so seems as if i will be here for another four to five years at least.
i really hope in that time, something will happen to reverse the direction that american has gone because i do love the USA.

Good luck on your decision. Sweden sounds great to me.

I haven't been to Sweden, but I have relatives there. My mothers family is from Sweden and I grew up in a Swedish community. I think it would be a great place to live.

Other than the weather, it sounds like a fabulous change of scenery! My old Norwegian roommate sold me on it... it does sound like they have it together when it comes to health, crime, and standard of living.

Blondie, I wish you all the best for whatever you decide. Just make sure you have internet hook up. :)

Having lived in Europe, I often think of what it would be like to move back. Doubt I would ever do it though, I love this country to much to move.

However, Sweden seems like a good country to move to if you feel like leaving the country. I've always been in awe of their low crime statistics, and the really cool things like giving mothers a year materinity leave.

I've lived in England, Borneo, Israel, and Germany. Trust me, there's no place like home :) :) :) :) :) .
