So, we just found out this past week. Our son is 4 1/2 months old, and was born on June 11th. Our next baby is due June 18th, but my history of last 2 pregnancies, I've been early, so we are looking at Irish Twins!!!

Anyone have any experience or advice? This obviously wasn't planned, but we are happy nonetheless. Just trying to figure out how you handle 2 under 1, not to mention our daughter will be 4 when the next baby is born!!!

OK I just had to look up what "irish twins" meant! How stupid am I?! :rotfl:
I think that will be nice though. It's kind of cool!

Congratulations!!

I have to add: I LOVE the line in your siggy! When I was little I thought all planes went to Disney World, too!! We lived near the airport so I'd always want to go watch the planes fly by to visit Mickey!

Congrats!! My younger 2 are 12 months and 6 days apart. Born 8/26/04 and 9/1/05. I scheduled my c-section for the 4th one in Sept becasue I didnt want another August birthday lol.

It was fine for almost the first year. Once DS got out of the infant carrier and in a big car seat I find myself not going out alone much. They tend to beat up on each other now lol.. but it has been fun. My older 2 kids are 14 and 7 so I am not used to having them so close.

The actually weigh the same now and the 2yo is only 4 inches taller.

I have a friend who has irish triplets.

Congratulations and welcome to the world of irish twins!

My two sons were both born in 1990, January and December! They are 11 months and 10 days apart!

No it wasn't planned, but it wasn't "un" planned either. We had a very hard time conceiving so we didn't use any protection thinking it would be another couple years before I got pregnant again.

Wrong!

Needless to say, I didn't have anymore after that!

It's hectic at first, having basically two babies at the same time. I think twins might be easier because at least they are going through the same things at the same times (teething, potty training, etc.) I'd get one down for a nap and the other one would wake up. I felt sleep deprived for years!

Looking back now that they're almost 16 and 17 years old, I don't know how I did it, but I wouldn't trade those years for the world! They were inseparable!

Here's what they used to look like, during the cute-cherub-faced believed in santa claus years, when they actually liked each other. Now they can't stand each other!

Awww, Blondie, your boys are so adorable. I bet they are fine looking almost men now! :thumbsup2

Mookie, congrats! :)

I'm an Irish twin....my brother and I are 10 months apart. We are from a family of 9 kids, with 3 sets of real twins, so we always felt a little set apart. The only other non-twin was my youngest sister, and since she was the youngest she had her own identity. My brother and I were very very close growing up and are still very close today. It so happened that we were in the same grade at school (my Mom held him back in kindergarten) so that made us even closer, and I think also the fact we were the only non-twins save our little sister had a lot to do with it too. But the real fact of the matter is we were all like stair steps, and we are all very close today. There were some years I'm sure my mother wondered just what the heck she got herself into having kids so close, but the rewards far outnumbered the challenges. :goodvibes

Wishing you lots of happy days ahead, mookie! :)

I know someone who has Irish Triplets- she had a son, then when he was 3 months old had to go on antibiotics. Forgot to use backup contraception and got pregnant with TWIN BOYS  The twins were about 6 weeks premature, so she had a 10 1/2 MO and 2 newborns.

Not that I'm wishing that on you!

Congrats & good luck!

A friend of mine has Irish Twins. It was not planned, but they were happy.

They were just really, really tired for the first 3 years or so. But they were one big happy family!

I had to look up the meaning of irish twins (before I read the other posts) Just wanted to say congrats to you and DH.

You are not stupid. I have no idea what Irish Twins are! :shamrock: Please enlighten me! Thanks. BTW, your kitties are adorable. :cat: I love that picture of pure contentment! :)

Congrats! My boys are 11 months 1 day apart(they're now 8.5 and 7.5). We also have a daughter who's 3.5, and honestly the first two years after my boys were born were pretty rough, but found after that it was much easier having two kids close together than it is having just one. There are lots of benefits, such as that they have worn the same size since they were 1 and 2, and tend to share their toys! Although if you have a girl I guess that won't work. Good luck!

My ds was due 10/16/91 but was born 9/22/91. DD was due 10/17/92 but was born 10/9/92/. So now they are 14 and 15. It has truely been a breeze having them close together. DS wasn't walking until 15 months, but it was still fine. I never thought of it as hard or a challange, it was all that I knew. People made comments on how hard it must of been, but truely it was not hard whatsoever. I would do again in heartbeat.
It was fun when they were younger because they were like the best of friends. I'd say good luck, but you won't need it, so I will say congratulations.

Congrats! I have Irish twins! My son was born December 5th and my daughter was born the following November 17.

The two of them are PROUD of the fact that they are Irish twins. Everyone that doesn't know them thinks that are real twins and they love it.

They are 9 and 10 now and while it seemed like I was going from feeding one to changing the other, I never felt truly exhausted. And if I had it to do over again, I would choose to have them this close!

My son doesn't remember life without his sister. They are, for the most part, best buds. Sure, there's a little sibling rivalry, but they are each other's best friends. I remember one time when Caitlin was little...like 3ish...Stefan got in trouble with me. She marched up to me and cocked her head up at me, put her hands on her hips and said very indignantly, "Mom, don't yell at my brother. I love him!"

And I smile to think about the boys who wil eventually date my daughter. Stefan already has that big brother attitude and has stated many times that he will take care of his sister. This kid is built like a linebacker; I pity the fool that tries anything on my daughter...she's squeal to her brother and I'm sure it will be a foot race as to who squashes the culprit first...brother or dad.

Anyway, it's definitely manageable, just like everything else in life. If you let it overwhelm you, it will. If you take it in stride, it's fine. If you aren't an organized person, learn now and it will help.

Congrats again!

I know someone who had a son then twins less than one year later. So they must be irish triplets.

What are Irish twins?

I really don't know either...but from the context of all the posts....I'd say it is kids born within a year of each other.

OP....I don't have any experience with it....my kids are 2 years apart both sets, but congrats!!

Yep, that's it. During the month or so after the youngest's birthday, they are both the same "age" in years

Congratulations, I'm the younger half of Irish twins. I was 11 months after my sister, I have a brother 13 months younger than me, there's a sister 13 months younger than him, and then another brother 18 months after her.

Now that's an Irish family.
