We're going to get married on July 17, which is our 17th anniversary (and Disneyland's 53rd). That way we get to keep our anniversary date the same.

I've been hearing several legal experts saying that even if the CA marriage amendment passes it won't apply to marriages performed between now and then.

However, there is a little issue. My partner's son is getting married July 25. He and his fiance have been planning this for over a year and we don't want to do anything to detract from their wedding. Sooo... we'll be getting married on the "down low" and will announce it a few weeks after his son's wedding.

Does that mean that we're eloping? :rotfl:

Congrats. I hope that the sane people in CA will over rule the zealots who have no business in the lives of adults who are committing no crimes.

Elope? I did, it was me, DH and the clerk of the court who did the ceremony. So if all you are doing is going off and getting it done, then yes, that would be eloping. Still, it counts.

Congratulations! We are getting married tomorrow as soon as it is legal. Originally I was planning to wait until October because there is no way I was going to risk November, but the Fiance is really excited about tomorrow being the historic day.

We are planning our wedding for spring of next year though, so thats what we are looking forward to!

We are getting married also, probably in July. We will be looking for rings in the coming weeks, and getting a marriage license.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF YOU!!!!!!

Yes! I am so happy for each and every one of you. My DH and I have been married for almost 25 years..and I love him more than the day we married. I wish this for all of you.

Thanks! And congratulations to Longhairbear and kingLouisthe1 !!! :grouphug:

I hope that Disneyland stocks up on the "just married" ears for Gay Days this Oct. :)

:lovestruc Yup, I think that means you eloping. :moped:
CONGRATS!

And I think you are sweet fot not taking away from your future step-son's special day, but throw a party for yourselves in a month or so, your friends and family will want to celebrate with you. Even if it is a little later. :)

Congrats! Have you tried talking to your son to see how they would feel if you didn't keep it on the "down low"? They might be super excited if you lived it up.

Thanks Michelle and Tinker*Shell*Bell!

We've discussed telling them but we're afraid that they might not feel comfortable telling us if they had an issue. We think they're experiencing enough stress without us throwing them a curve ball.

That is downright awesome Rosie, thanks! There is a tender side to you regardless of how Wally makes you out to be :rolleyes1

Well that is downright considerate of you guys! How close is your relationship with them though? If you put it out there and told them you would not be offended because you were thinking of keeping it on the down low anyway would they still not be able to give you a genuine answer instead of what they think you would like to hear?

It is a bit of a sticky situation, but also you might not be able to get married on your anniversary next year. There's also the possibility of getting married this year on your anniversary and then throwing yourselves a little shindig for your anniversary next year.

Congratulations!

It sounds like fun, and it's considerate of you not to disrupt the plans that have been in the works for a year.

So, yep, sounds like you're eloping! Enjoy it!
