We're going to float away!!! Rain.......

I know this isn't the place for it, but it seems like all the experts are here.

We're leaving for DL tomorrow (praying for this rain to go away!) and then driving up to Napa for the weekend. From there the plan was to drive to Sacramento, then on to Yosemite via Hwy 49. It looks like we'll be right in time for the next predicted storm .

My question is: the forecast calls for rain on the day we will be driving into Yosemite, does Hwy 49 through Gold Country to Mariposa get really bad? Is there an easier driving route to Yosemite from Napa should the weather turn really nasty? I'll have a Ford Expedition, but I'm a super-duper weather weenie .

I really hope this rain stops. We got hit bad in Hawaii last week, seems like it's moved on to California. Stay safe and dry everyone!

Just got back from DL!

DBF and I got there close to 5pm. The crowds were light. It was really cold, it sprinkled just a little bit. It was really nice. We just had to bundle up well cause it was icy cold. The crowds got a little bigger later in the evening. We finally watched the 630 parade and left.

We actually just left the Grand Californian hotel yesterday and got on the road home (Oregon) about 1pm Sunday.

Weather was ok, then started raining, and once we hit Redding it was non-stop snow until we got home. All of Oregon seemed to get a big snow storm last night (we drove through the night).

Our normal 14 hour trip turned into 21 hours on the road. This was our first time driving non-stop (we usually stay in northern CA). It was awful.

But on the up-side, we actually have snow at our house - we never do! The kids are actually not super upset to have left Disneyland, since they have snow to play in.

What part of oregon? I live in portland and the snow sunday was pretty but now that it has iced over is a pain. We are heading down to DL tomorrow AM and I am looking forward to 50's and rain...this 20 degree stuff is nonsense!

I was just going to comment that we saw big fluffy fat snowflakes here in Las Vegas yesterday- and looks like some people saw it today too

It was my three year old son's FIRST experience with snow! It was amazing

Looks like we are in luck, disneymom8589! Unless the heavy storm that is expected to hit SoCal tonight and last until tomorrow gets stalled/delayed, then it looks like we are in the clear for Friday the 19th (and for that whole weekend!)!!!! In fact, it looks like it will be my ideal weather - nice and chilly (coat and mitten weather), but sunny too! The ONLY problem will be that if there is no threat of rain, the crowds will be worse, but oh well, I guess we can't have totally ideal circumstances!!

Krissy Marissy, I amd crossing my fingers that you don't get poured on or caught in the middle of a torrential downpour at DLR - even though you said you are used to rain, so it probably won't bug you as much!! I will also cross my fingers that you don't get caught in massive crowds, either!

I am not a weather or road expert I just some experience, I've lived in Napa my whole life. No snow (about once every ten years) here but it did try there was some in the upper valley but it will not be a problem for you this weekend. I hope you enjoy your visit to the "World famous Napa Valley",lol.

The drive from Sacramento to Mariposa along hwy 49 is a very nice ride, in the summer. The weather forecast for this weekend is a chance of showers for the bay area even if it doesn't rain here the weather piles up against the Sierra's and looses moisture there. As cold as it is predicted to be there would be the possibility of snow along hwy 49. Normal drive time from Sac to Mariposa would be around 4 hrs. The drier route going down hwy 99 would be faster, around 3 hrs. but it is a major highway along with the traffic. If your only need to go to Sac was to get to highway 49 and desire to go from Napa to Mariposa I would use State route 12 that goes through Suisuin/ Rio Vista and connects with Hyw 99 in Stockton. Going this route is about a three and a half hour drive, normal drive time from Napa to Sac is about an hour.


All in all it comes down to your decision, just trying to give some options.

Then once south of Oregon where is best/easiest to shift east to get to I-5?
I would like to avoid as much yuck driving as possible.. HELP

Now it doesn't look fun to be out in, but it is beautiful from inside. That is what this weather is to me - inside weather. Stay warm and SAFE! And at least it "looks" like Christmas in your part of the world!

Excellent question! We are looking to learn exactly the same info! have you been checking the traffic cams in oregon and north cali? I think there may be a thread for this topic on it's own somewhere....I'll copy and paste this whole post into it if I find it... we may get more info that way!

Yesterday, finally it began to rain in Northern Ca. Now it is about time. For Ca. very much needs the rain. This morning not only was it raining, but the wind was blowing, along with the rain sideways. That is always interesting to me to watch. I do love the rain. However, I do not care too much to drive in it, especially if it is pouring rain, at night. And of course the little rubber part on my windshield wiper blade, had decided about a week ago, to detach itself, about 3/4 of the way. Great! Not! For I do not know how to reattach it, or if that can even be done, to begin with. I believe this situation means I need to buy a new wiper blade. Did I mention that I do not know how to put these things on? (Sigh!) I hate feeling like a dolt! If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know, here for my communication system (Here) is currently on hiatus.

Kristine, I agree. I was happy to see some rain and not on the weekend! lol It normally rains over the weekend so we are stuck at home. Altho with the Wii it's not so bad to be stuck at home. As for your wipers, just go to your local Kragen, Pep Boys, or whatever auto parts store you have and ask them for help. They will help you find the right blades and they will help you change them. BTW, where in Nor Cal are you? I wonder how close we are to each other.

Seriously. I'd never think that LV, Desert Town, USA would EVER have snow. Especially since it's so darn hot in the summer. And yet here in Cali, 1 state over, we get zip. Isn't weather so weird.

It snows here usually about once or twice a year- at least that's the way it seems. USUALLY, the snow doesn't stick- and it's crazy because you can be up higher in the valley (like we were near Summerlin yesterday) and see all these huge fluffy snow flakes sticking and then come a little bit further and you just get slush and rain Our house usually only sees the slush and rain, but we were up at Kohls shopping and got to see the huge snow flakes. It was GORGEOUS and really, not too cold. Of course, Vegas never gets as cold as a lot of other places!

(And I had someone come out here from CA tell me, "Geez! It's freezing out!" ) I guess it all depends on what you are used to!

Whenever I think of the weather in Las Vegas, I never think of snow. I always think of heat and air conditioners. he he!
That sounds wonderful to have snow there. Where I live in Ca. it normally does not snow. Once in a great while, there will be a dusting of snow on top of Sonoma Mountain. But that is it.

Pixie ---- I live in Sonoma County. My grandmother use to live in Fairfield, after having lived in SF, for many,many years. She several years ago, moved to the great beyond. A place that I do like to call Heaven (I am Catholic)

Sherry...I have been diligently following the weather reports and it is looking pretty good! Anything to get away from the freezing weather we are experiencing here with snow in the forecast for tomorrow. Enjoy your time at the Happiest Place on Earth and maybe I'll run into you there!

Well, it did. The snow was mostly gone by the next day. Only in the mountains can you see it now. The mountains are pretty though.

OMG, there are so many things wrong with CSI! My DH and I love that show but it cracks us up because so much of what they show, you'd never find in Vegas. lol

Well, it gets really cold here in the winter. Down in the 30's at night, and our highs for the week are only in the 40's.
There was no snow on the Strip on Monday, but that has happened before as well. I live up near Summerlin which is closer to the mountains (about 20-25 minutes from the Strip) and we got between 2-4 inches depending on where in Summerlin you were at.

Were you at the Kohls near Boca Park? That's the one I go to. I live further up the hill from there, closer to Red Rock Casino, but that's the one I'm always at. lol

Well, mostly you'd be right! I turned on my AC for the first time last May and didn't turn it off again until the end of October.
I spent 3 years living in Northern Michigan and our summer is like their winter. Here you don't go out in summer because it's too hot, there you don't go out in winter because it's too cold.
Here you get tired of the AC for months on end, there you get tired of the heat for months on end.
Here you get sick of having to put your groceries in a cooler so nothing melts just so you can drive the 10 minutes home from the store, there you get sick of pushing a cart through the snow to get to your car and having to scrape off your windshield after only a few minutes in the store.

There are good and bad to both I guess.
