I have won out and we are going to Disneyland this year for our family vacation. We will be going Oct 1-9 with Oct 1-6 in Disneyland and from the 6-9th in San Diego. I am huge planner to begin with but by the sounds of it you must be to go. We have 2 girls. They will be 5 and 3.

Few questions to start...

1) After doing some research I had pretty much decided on the Tropicana. Either it was pay bucks to stay at the GC (which I am still not opposed to) or I wanted something close to the park. The Tropicana seems to get good reviews and be right at the park entrance. Don't read that much about it in here though. Good / Bad ???

2) If you stay in one of the hotels off property can you go back to your room for break mid day?

3) Any car rental places close? We will rent a vehicle to drive to San Diego.

4) Are there shuttles to Knotts Berry Farm?

Thx...... I've become addicted to this board over the past few days!

I don't know much about the Tropicana but if I remember right, its across the street from the main gate. If its the one I'm thinking it is, it is actually closer to Disneyland then the Disneyland Hotel and you will have no problem walking back to your room for a break.

Sorry I don't know about car rentals or a Knott's Berry Farm shuttle.

We rented our car from Budget on Harbor Blvd (I think it was between Orangewood and Chapman -- you may want to double-check that). There's a National in the Anaheim Hilton and a Hertz in the Anaheim Marriott. The ones in the hotel run on limited hours, I think Mon-Sat, and they close at lunch hour and close after 6pm. We rented our car when we were about to leave Anaheim for San Diego, so we didn't have to pay the daily parking rate at our hotel.

You can exit from the park mid-day for a nap break for the kids (we did). You MUST get a stamp when you exit from the park. This stamp allows you re-entry later on in the day.

We stayed at the Tropicana in 2001 and thought it was great ::yes:: The rooms are HUGE! The toilet and tub are in it's own seperate room with the vanity area outside. The vanity had a very long counter with a full mirror across the wall. Underneath the vanity was a great place to store your bags. The room had a fridge and microwave which was so great.

The pool was fine (not heated in May when we were there) and had a hottub. In the parking lot there is a little convienent store where you could buy drinks and some foods. Never heard any noise through the walls, and I'm sound sensitive. LOL!

Only complaint was that the beds were hard as a rock, but I was also pregnant then too ;) I took off the comforter and put it under the bottom sheet. If you need a crib, they are TINY. The garbage man ritually woke us up at 7:30 but it was okay, it got us going.

The place wasn't beautiful by any means but we really liked it. You are close to several restaurants and the crosswalk into Disney is right there. Agreed that it is closer than the DL Hotel is. We went back and forth also without a problem.

If you have a stroller you may want to ask for a lower floor room. We had one on the top level (only 2 levels) and had to unload/load the stroller and carry it up and down the stairs each time, not a huge deal though.

I'll see if I can dig up some pictures and post them for you. But yes, definitely a great place to stay. I have never seen a hotel room as big as these were.
