We're Going on a Disney Cruise ! But wait.... where's the ship? Feb 13th Eastern

Monday morning I woke up early and was wide awake. I decided to get out of the cabin and let everyone sleep, and thought it would be a good time to deliver our FE gifts. The ship was quiet and it was a perfect time to do it - most people were sound asleep. We had 85 people in our exchange, so there were cabins all over the ship.

Shortly after 8am I was finished and walked up to deck 9 to get coffee. Jody was just arriving there also, thinking that's where I might be. We got our coffee and sat, enjoying the quiet and the sea rushing by. It was sunny and a little cool, but still delightful. We passed the morning lazily and soon it was time to get ready for our brunch at Palo so we returned to the cabin. Kelly was already gone - the lure of the Stack and new friends was like a magnet pulling her in all week - and Meg was getting ready to go. We met Barbara at Palo and were greeted by our excellent server Emmanuel. However, before we could even get to the buffet display, PJ, the Palo manager, called Meaghan back to the desk. "Carded" at Palo .....oh well.... someday she'll be happy that she looks younger than she is! Satisfied that she was 20, and old enough to be there but not share in the complimentary cocktail, we proceeded to enjoy our brunch. That is... until Jody suddenly felt sick. Very sick . The motion of the ship was very significant that morning, and was affecting her in a big way. Emmanuel advised her to go outside for some air (Barbara agreed that this was the best thing to do) and we continued to eat. And eat . And eat. I checked on Jody a few times - she was lying on a deck chair just outside Palo - but she insisted we continue without her. She made a couple attempts to re-join us
but was quickly convinced that the deck chair was a better place for her. PJ gave her some Dramamine and after a time she did feel well enough to join us for coffee. We were at Palo for nearly 3 hours! The food and the conversation were so good that we didn't even notice the time and although we had been among the first to arrive, we would now certainly be among the last to leave!

Barbara headed back to her cabin to spell John, who had been with Jen while we gorged ourselves, and Meg headed back to work on the BIG paper that needed to be submitted via e-mail to her professor the next day. Jody and I headed to the adult pool to join Diane, Brooke and Kim. There was a breeze, but it was warm and sunny ...life was good. We decided to go in to the hot tub and soak . There were two men already in there - one who was bad-mouthing DCL over the events of the weekend, and the other one who was saying absolutely nothing. Jody and I couldn't stand listening to him blah-blah-blah and we started to offer "alternative" comments to his complaining. He definitely felt Disney "didn't do enough for him" - "What more could they do ?", we asked (They gave us entertainment (park tickets) food vouchers, a hotel for Saturday night, onboard credits of $100 per cabin and $20.00 per person) He felt they didn't give enough food money - he said had spent $300.00 on food for his family of 4 Saturday and wanted to be fully reimbursed. $300.00 ! WOW! We were a group of 4 and certainly spent nowhere near that! He also felt that Disney should have greeted him with free alcoholic drinks upon his arrival on the ship. "Use your $180.00 onboard credit to buy yourself a drink" we suggested. The other gentleman in the hot tub continued to say nothing, but seemed amused. Every complaint the man had, we countered. They "made" him go to EPCOT and his kids don't like EPCOT -at 8 and 10 they are "done" with WDW he said - (WHAT???) and they had booked this trip JUST TO GO TO ST.MAARTEN and now that island had been eliminated. "Why didn't you just go directly to St. Maarten then, and not on a cruise? He then states that Disney should have eliminated Castaway Cay instead. "There'd be a riot on this ship if they did that !" we laugh. Finally he explained that we "didn't understand, because he had booked his trip with DVC points so the refund of 20% of the fare was not going to apply to him." Oh yes - I understood that perfectly since MY trip was booked on DVC points too. He complains, we counter and the other man says.... nothing.... until The Crab in the Hot tub decides to leave and the Formerly Silent Man says "Nice work, Ladies! What a jerk he was!" :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

We all laugh and the Formerly Silent Man tells us that he is Glen Foster, an entertainer on the ship for the first time. He has done some work on the Wonder, but this is his first time on the Magic. He is from the Orlando area and auditioned with Disney when they began looking for new acts in anticipation of the new ships. We find his story interesting and ask a lot of questions. We add Glen to our list of "New Best Friends" and promise to come to his shows.

The afternoon passes but not before Jody dances with Minnie. There were LOTS more characters out and about his time, a CM told us that because they are actively training crew for the new ship they have a lot more crew onboard, hence more folks to be characters and more to assist them. Characters appeared everywhere , not just at the designated "meet and greets".

Soon we are getting ready for formal night (Kelly's beautiful new silver dress DID fit!). To ease the getting-ready crunch in the stateroom, I took a shower in the spa, my favorite thing to do. Anyone can use the shower facilities in the spa for free. The show tonight was Twice Charmed which we all enjoyed. After the show we went to the Captain's Reception and enjoyed a drink on the house (hope the Hot Tub man got HIS free drink that night!) We chatted with some nice ladies from Orlando (one worked for Disney), had a picture taken with the Captain, and soon went to dinner in Animator's Palate. Dwight had put our table for 4 with the table of 10 so now we were with part of the group.... yay! We try to catch up on everyone's day, and Gabby tells us that she couldn't swim in the Mickey pool(AGAIN) because "someone pooped in the pool and they closed it (AGAIN)". We just don't get why this always happens - what's wrong with people :confused3 - poor Gabby and every other kid who wanted to swim.

The adult evening show in Rockin'BarD was the comedy of Heath Hyche - very funny- but the best thing was listening to Brooke's infectious, genuine laugh. It's been a long day -sunshine, wine and too much food - time to turn in and be rocked to sleep by the ocean. We re-set the clocks for tomorrow's new time zone and are asleep in moments. No sleeping pills are ever needed on the sea!

Tomorrow - Characters go to breakfast, a paper, some tea and PIRATES!

Hey you. Sorry I couldn't come see you prior to your 'Adventure' day. It turns out we were just preparing you for the phrase 'plans change'.

And remember, I tried to warn you months ago that when I spoke with Mickey about you, HE SAID he had special plans for you, even if he couldn't give you a free upgrade. Were you surprised?

Really enjoying your TR, and can't wait till you get to the second sea day events:rotfl:.

Welcome to the TR King Charming , and oh my goodness,... you are so right! :scared1: This was MICKEY'S REVENGE for my part in your campaign for Most Popular Passenger on his ship this fall! **

Oh dear, now I feel so sorry that he took two cruises worth of other folks along for the ride...... :sad2:

** if you are curious as to why the Big Cheese would be - shall we say "annoyed" with me- I refer you to King Charmings's pre-trip report for his November cruise entitled "PreTrippie (aka King Charming Takes Hypermommy (and family) on another cruise) and then jump on over to his current masterpiece in progress "KC & The Double Dipping Band". After your sides heal from the merriment of those two gems, backtrack to "The Exploding Trip Report" - a tongue-in-cheek rendition of what it costs you when you win a "FREE" DCL cruise  They are all delightful reading!

It always amazes me how ungrateful some people can be. Since the magic's change of plans was due to weather the contract that the cruise line has you sign states that they are not responsible for monetary damages if they have to change the itinerary. The man that was complaining in the hot tub could have gotten nothing, I think that Disney handled that in a very generous way to try to make people happy, they didn't have to do anything.

Tuesday morning we all woke up around the same time - that seemed odd - usually Jody and I were up way before the girls. We had made plans with our tablemates to meet for the 9: 45 Character Breakfast in PC, but it was only 8:15, so we thought we'd go up on deck and have coffee and watch the sea go by. All of a sudden Kelly sits up and yells out "Oh No! I'm late! Why didn't you wake me up? And you went to the character breakfast without me???" We told her it was only 8:15, the breakfast was not for another hour and a half, and she said "Are you sure?? My watch says it's 10:15. " This started a discussion about the setting of the clocks the night before. Apparently we were supposed to set them ahead one hour and we set them back one hour! :rotfl::rotfl:

We were all so confused that Meaghan finally called Guest Services with a simple question - "Could you please tell me what time it is?" A chuckle - and then the answer "It's 10:15 ". We were all laughing and scrambling around trying to throw on clothes and get to breakfast. We RAN there and arrived just as our new friends were finishing. They were all amused by our mistake - and clearly WE were the biggest characters :jester: at the breakfast that morning! :lmao: Dwight said he could still bring us food, and we were able to have a brief visit with the Mick himself, so all was good. Breakfast was winding down and Dwight had some time to chat. It was interesting to hear about his 10 years on the ship, his wife and two children at home in Jamaica, and his plan to transfer to the Fantasy when it comes out in 2012. He has no desire to go to the Dream next year, since he prefers the 7 day cruises. He said he enjoys getting to know his customers and feels the 3/4 day sailings are too short for that.

After breakfast Kelly went up on deck to be present for the filming of "America's Funniest Home Videos". They had quite a contingent of video winners, staff, and crew onboard all week, filming for a 20th anniversary show, including Tom Bergeron, host of both that show and "Dancing with the Stars". That day they were filming at the Goofy pool area for most of the day, and Kelly had plans with friends from the teen club to meet there and see if they could get in on the action. Meg was off to Cove Cafe with her laptop to finish the paper that had to be e-mailed in to her professor, and Jody and I headed up to the adult pool to soak up some sunshine - something we hadn't seen at home for a long, long time! It was breezy but warmer than yesterday (and certainly warmer than home where they were getting another 8" of snow). The Captain announced that it would be 80 tomorrow in St. Thomas so we were excited ! :cool2: More time in the hot tub - Glen Foster returned, but no crabby/complaining people that day . Around 1:15 pm Jody headed to Lumiere's for lunch with Diane, Brooke and Kim, I stayed at the pool since Meg and I were going to tea at Palo at 3pm.

Paper finished and e-mailed to the college, Meg and I went to get ready for tea. This was our second time going to tea at Palo- the first was shortly after she turned 18 and was able to go to Palo. We loved our first tea and decided it would become a "Mother-Daughter Cruising Tradition". Her birthday was in December and I had sent her a card at school with a homemade "gift certificate" in it, inviting her to " Be my guest at Tea on the Magic on Valentines Day ". Due to our cruising delay, we were a day late, but that didn't matter. We arrived at Palo (no getting "carded" this time) and were given a beautiful table by the window. I learned last time to bring sunglasses- it's SO bright in there ! We chose our teas and then the food began to arrive - sandwiches, scones, deserts, a trifle - it's endless! The portions are small and tea-party like, but they are plentiful. You truly cannot eat all the food they bring! At a mere $5.00 per person, this is the best bargain on the ship.

pirate: Tonight was Pirate night and we all had matching Pirate t-shirts and bandannas that I had bought after Halloween at Wal-Mart for $2.00 a piece (thank you, DisBoards!) We accessorized with the many MardiGras beads we had found in our FE ( pirates love "treasure", right???? :)) We went to the show - the comedy of Heath Hyche, once again browsed in the shops, and then headed to dinner, our second night in AP, but no "show" tonight. Our dinners were always very good, but very long, probably because we were a combined party of 20 seated at 2 tables. We were absolutely fine with the timing and never felt rushed. We enjoyed having good conversation and good food with new friends. Tonight we wanted to get out a bit early, though, so we could head up on deck for the pirate party. We had received lots of glow/light sticks as FE gifts, so I brought them all along. Once we found our spot on deck 10, I handed them out to children around us. It was fun to see them enjoy bracelets and necklaces. We enjoyed the pirate dancing and fireworks but had absolutely no desire to even sample anything at the buffet. That's one thing about late dinner - you never want to eat any of the late-night snacks! That was a good thing, though, because we had a date with Glen Foster - tonight was his debut in Rockin'BarD - a tough spot due to the Pirate festivities going on. We headed to the bar and got seats. There was a decent crowd, but it wasn't packed as it had been earlier in the week. He gave a really good show and we hooted and hollered to the best of our ability - wanting to make sure we did our part to help him on his quest to be a regular DCL entertainer.

After his show it was time for karaoke- Meaghan's favorite part of a cruise as she is a seasoned performer and loves being on a stage. She sang "Fame" and wowed the audience, and then later in the evening did a spectacular rendition of "Cabaret". Of course I am more than a little biased, but both the audience in general and our new friends were very impressed with her singing. After karaoke the DJ played music and a man who had been sitting behind us suddenly appeared in front of Jody and literally pulled her onto the dance floor to do a country two-step. She made the best of it, but we all knew she was very surprised and not too happy. His wife said to Brooke "I am married to an idiot". (no comment.....:sad2:)

It was after midnight as we made our way back - it's amazing how QUIET the ship is in the early morning and late evening. Another towel animal, more chocolates on the pillows, and tomorrow's "Navigator" from our phantom cabin attendant Suda. At this point in the cruise, we have still not laid eyes on her ! She secretly comes in and works her magic a couple times a day, we want for nothing, but we never see her. Kelly is still in the "Stack" as usual, but we will go to bed anyways. It's so exciting for teens on the ship to have a safe, supervised, appropriate place to hang out until the wee hours of the morning .... something that doesn't happen in her real life!

We have used a company on St. Thomas called AirForceOne Tours for several cruises, and we really like them. I had booked a shopping and beach excursion with them for our day on the island, but I got an e-mail from them about 2 weeks before we sailed, apologizing that they "must cancel all tours on that day to attend a very important meeting" . :confused3 We didn't make any other arrangements, so are free to "go with the flow" on the island tomorrow. We ordered sandwiches and cookies from Room Service to take with us the next day, and make plans to meet Kim, Brooke, Diane and Gabby in the morning for a beach day on St. Thomas. Before we turn in, we check our clocks to make sure we have them right this time :rolleyes1 and we fall asleep dreaming about a day in the sun and surf .:beach:

Next: Wednesday ~ We get taken for a ride (literally) in St. Thomas

What cabin # were you? i am pretty sure Suda was the name of our wonderful, yet invisible stateroom hostess too...and we had Ivo...weird coincidence LOL.

We were in 2601, where were you ? Were you on our cruise or another sailing? Thanks for reading :)

We were in #6524 but LOL it was 2 yrs ago!! I am still reliving it thru everyone's trip reports since I don't know when we will be able to cruise again!! :)

It's always fun to read trip reports and dream of our next DCL adventure... .

I realized after my last post that you were the one who posted the picture of Ivo earlier in the thread. It is a coincidence that we both had the same people!

Wednesday, our day in St. Thomas ~ After being on the ship for 2 and a half days, we were all ready to get off and enjoy the sunshine. As promised, the day was sunny and warm - very warm - predicted to approach the mid- 80's by afternoon. We ate a quick breakfast in Topsiders and were among the first to leave the ship. We intended to poke around in the shops at the Havensight Mall before meeting Kim, Diane, Brooke and Gabby to go to the beach, but found that we were too early and none were open.We ran into Glen Foster who was flying home that day from St. Thomas. We told him we enjoyed his shows and wished him well with his career with DCL. We posed for pictures with him so we could someday prove we "knew him when". Soon we were approached by taxi drivers asking about rides to the beaches. We had done our homework and knew that a ride to the close by beaches should cost about $5.00 or $6.00 per person each way. When the others arrived we continued our conversations with the drivers and one suggested "Secret Harbor Beach". Kim had read about it and thought it would be a good beach for Gabby, so we negotiated a ride to the beach, with a quick stop at K-Mart first, and then a ride into town for some shopping in the afternoon. Agreed. $20.00 per person for all three stops - a little more than we wanted to pay, but the beach was further out than the ones we were planning on, and he promised to throw in a "tour" on the way to the beach.

We all get into the van and are off in moments. Brooke had been to the K-Mart before so she knows it is very close by. When we don't arrive there in a few minutes, she questions him - he replies that he's taking us to the "bigger, better one". OK..... We do eventually get there, and we buy beach towels, cheap t-shirts and beach cover-ups, a case of bottled water for $12.00, and LIQUOR. Yes, liquor - any and all kinds you can imagine for incredibly low prices. Brooke had gotten this "tip" from a local on a previous trip.

Finally we are off to Secret Harbor Beach. The "tour" he promised consisted of him noting the heritage of people we see on the way, he claimed that he could tell their ethnicity by the clothing they were wearing. Luckily, some of us had been to the island before, so we could point out the interesting/beautiful/historical sites to the others. I have a sense that we are on a trip to nowhere, as we seem to be taking a VERY long time to get to the beach. We finally arrive and it is a lovely spot. We agree that he will return for us in 3 hours time (1:30 pm) and say our good-byes. No admittance fee, but the typical charge to rent chairs and umbrellas if you want them (we don't). The water is beautiful and we all spend most of our time there. We eat our snacks brought from the ship and drink our bottled water from K-Mart, Gabby plays in the sand, we watch iguanas playing, and we all soak up the sun. It's a wonderful day so far.

Around 1:15 we start to get ready to go shopping. We dry off , some of us change in the bathrooms , and we wonder if our driver is actually going to come back for us. Kim says we should have taken a phone number for him, I say I'm sure he'll be back because we haven't paid him any money yet. No fear - he does show up right on time, but he has a French speaking couple in the van. They don't seem too happy to see us, as they are in the middle of an island tour, but we're not to happy to see them, either. Kim tells the driver we DO NOT want to go on the tour, that we are planning to go shopping now. He starts yelling - yes- yelling- that we never said anything about shopping. We all say in unison "Yes, we did!". He gets really mad and is muttering and sputtering (in multiple languages) about no shopping - he's taking us back to the ship, he's not going downtown in that traffic -so I finally just say "Fine - take us back to the ship then." I figure we will walk and/or take a cab to the downtown shopping area - no use fighting with this guy as we will probably not win. The French couple is mystified about this - and annoyed, too, who could blame them? Their nice quiet tour was invaded by 5 women and 2 kids covered in sand, demanding to be taken shopping! The driver continues along, taking the longest way possible - speaking to them in French and ignoring us. He takes so long to get back (he obviously had to finish the tour the couple had paid for) that it's after 2:30 and really too late to go into town, as the all-aboard time is 4 pm. We reluctantly hand over the $20.00 per person- and a very small tip - since we felt he tricked us, and are done with him. Lesson learned- we hate to admit this, but we're pretty sure if we had a man with us this would not have happened. I wish I was brave enough to re-negotiate the price , (or give no tip) but after the show he put on in the van, I was kind of afraid of him and just wanted to be done.

It's really hot, we are dragging all our beach stuff and we all just decide to look around in the shops by the dock. Disappointing at best. Brooke heads off to the close-by KMart to purchase some more necessities, the rest of us head back to the ship. Jody is disappointed because she had some Valentine money from her husband with instructions to "buy a nice piece of jewelry on an island". Since we missed St. Maarten, this was her one and only chance.... oh well. She decides she'll save it and buy something at home.

Kelly heads to the Stack, Meg to her bed for a nap , Jody and I go up to deck 9 in search of food. We are soon joined by Brooke and Diane and we eat pizza, sandwiches, fruit and tacos. A drink seller comes by with "2 for 1" Margaritas and Jody treats us all to one. Soon the ship is moving again and the beautiful vistas of St. Thomas are rapidly fading from view. In spite of our deceitful taxi driver, we've had a great day. I decide to go to the spa for a long shower and some relaxation on the lovely loungers. Jody heads back to the cabin to shower and the others go back to theirs. Once again, the FE is overfilled with surprises.

The show tonight was "Once Upon A Song" the replacement/fill in show between the end of "The Golden Mickeys" and the beginning of the new "Villians" show. Jody decides to go (she loved it), and Meg and I decide to stay in the cabin and relax for a while. We watch a program about the drydock of the Magic on TV and really enjoy it. Kelly is... of course... in the Stack (or wandering around the ship with her new friends from the Stack).

We all head to "Who Wants to Be A Mouseketeer" in Studio Sea before dinner , which is fun, but our numbers are never called, so we don't get to participate. We look at our photos in Shutters, pose for some character photos with Linda and Betty and head to dinner in Parrot Cay. After dinner we all go to our "usual" spots - Kelly to the Stack, the rest of us to Rockin' BarD. Tonight it's Alfred & Seymour's adult show - very funny. Jody's "dance partner" from the night before is there , but she tries to keep a low profile. We all tease her about him, but we seem to think it's a whole lot funnier than she does.... The others decide to stay on for the next activity, but Jody and I leave after the show to go see "When In Rome". I honestly have a hard time staying awake in the theater - between the sun, the usual too-much-food and the time, I am tired! I make it through the movie, thank goodness - I wouldn't want to embarrass Jody by snoring in the Buena Vista Theatre - and we head back to the stateroom when it's done.

Another day down, and the sad reality that the cruise is more than half over... time sure does fly when you're having fun!

Next - Our final day at sea and..... Alert Security! The ladies have taken over Lumiere's and are fighting.... over a towel ???

Thursday, our final sea day. As much as I love the islands, I think I love sea days even more. :cloud9: The peacefulness of the ocean with very little to see except water and the occasional ship, and the bustling activity of the ship are always so fun. This day was even more exciting because it was a planned activity from our Meet Thread. During our months of discussion leading up to our cruise, it was discovered that many of the women were traveling without their husbands and we decided to organize a Palo brunch among the "traveling solo" ladies. Well... the best-laid plans and all that ... it's tricky to get that private room at Palo! You have to have at least 18 but no more than 20 people, it's only available on certain days, and, as we found, it tends to get booked pretty far in advance. So, our second choice was to plan a "Ladies Lunch" which ended up being better because ALL the ladies who wanted to attend, could attend (unlike the brunch which is capped at one per person/ per cruise, so if they went to brunch with their husband they wouldn't have been able to go again). We settled on Thursday at 12:30 in Lumiere's, and 20 ladies indicated that they would attend, ranging in age from 20 to 60's. To further add to the fun, we planned a "Yankee Swap" (also know as "Dirty Santa" and various other names depending on where you're from). Each person was to bring a $10.00 gift - it could be cruise/beach related, represent your home town, or just about anything else you thought another woman would enjoy. This gift exchange initially caused some confusion for our ladies from the NY/NJ area, as they were not big baseball fans and didn't think they wanted to participate in a "YANKEE" swap. :lmao::lmao: Although that discussion quickly turned to a potential swap of Yankees star Derek Jeter, and then many more ladies were interested. :rotfl:

As always, the girls slept in a bit and Jody and I went up on deck for coffee, fruit and muffins from Goofy's Galley. We really enjoyed sitting there each morning that we could, watching the sea and just chatting. We have been friends for 25 years and have shared a lot over those years, but this week provided us with an opportunity to rest, relax, and enjoys each other's company without the usual distractions of real life. At some point we wandered down to deck 3 to charge our tips (and beat the crowd the next day) and we ran in to Patricia and Angela (PURTYPAT1). We hadn't seen much of them all week, so the four of us sat on the comfy couches and talked for quite a while. At some point Kelly wandered by , briefly acknowledged us, and continued on her way. (Places to go and people to meet :) ). We caught up on their adventure so far planned to meet at the lunch at 12:30 before we went our separate ways. Angela decided to go to a cooking class right then, and to join us later in the afternoon for the galley tour as well. Patricia was off to find some sunshine, and Meaghan then joined us and asked if we knew anything about the "Performer's Meet and Greet" which we had attended on a previous cruise, and she was looking forward to attending again. Apparently, it was not scheduled for that week, so she was disappointed. Jody, Meg and I then headed to the Promenade Lounge for a round of Disney Trivia.

Soon it was time to go to the Ladies Lunch. When we arrived there were two tables of 10 set up for us, and many ladies were already there. I was fortunate to sit with Judy (jdybnsn) the starter of our thread, Kelly (clay's crew) and Kim (hockeymom98), three ladies who I had not yet gotten a chance to know, so that was really nice. We were also joined by Nanette (Nziggy) when she finished brunch in Palo. Good conversation, good food, a fun time. When lunch was finished we began choosing numbers for our "Yankee Swap". Everyone who had brought a gift chose a number and then chose a wrapped gift from the offerings. When you chose, you could either keep your gift OR take a gift from anyone who had a lower number than you. I had brought a beautiful watercolor print of the Magic docked at CC, and really thought that would be the "fought over" gift, but I was wrong. The I WANT IT gift was a beautiful red beach towel embroidered by Lisa Griswold :worship:(stevegriswold), the one who made all the bags for the FE participants. I initially chose it and made it very clear that I wanted to keep it, but since I had #3, I pretty much knew that wasn't going to happen! :sad2:One lady, Pam, actually went so far as to sit on the towel when she had it so it wouldn't be in sight! No such luck.... everyone knew and wanted the towel! It was a lot of fun and hooting and hollering. We did get some "looks" from a table dining near us and some of the servers seemed a little .... nervous... about our behavior, but it all worked out. Dessert was served and we realized that the restaurant was closing so we needed to move along. I ended up with a great bottle of local wine from Barbara (babrbarasc). I haven't opened it yet..... I'm saving it for when Barbara comes to visit me in Maine this summer! (I hope!) The towel was ultimately claimed by.... Meaghan! And being the delightful daughter that she always is, she promptly gave it to her dear old Mom  We were able to get out of there without security being called , as was our standing joke on the thread, so we considered it a successful gathering. :grouphug:

After storing our treasures in the cabin we lined up for the Galley Tour. We looked for Angela but didn't see her, let the first group go ahead in case she was running a few minutes late, but finally went in without her. It was really interesting to see and hear how they prepare so many meals each day. Our tour was led by a chef from Jamaica who did an excellent job. I've taken this tour before, but it was not nearly as well done the last time.

From the Galley Tour to the "Art of the Theme Tour" led by Dave from the Cruise Staff. This was a really interesting ship tour that focused on the ship's theming, artistry, and culture. Dave obviously had lots of information to share, and an hour wasn't nearly enough. The tour ended with everyone wanting more! Angela was on this tour and said she had gone to the Galley tour at 3:45 not 2:45 so she missed it. Well, as much as we were sorry she missed it, WE certainly understood about being an hour late based on our clock problems earlier in the week! :sad2:

We got ready for the evening and headed to see Disney Dreams. It was semi-formal night so we dressed up in our fancy clothing once more. We met Linda and Betty after the show and visited and posed with some of the characters ::MinnieMofor a while until it was time for dinner. We were in Lumiere's for dinner and Dwight presented Kelly with a birthday cake (yummy!) at dessert time and everyone sang to her . Kelly :lovestrucloves :lovestruc being the center of attention, so this was right up her alley.

After dinner Kelly headed to the Stack (surprise!) where the big event of the evening was a semi-formal "Homecoming Dance". She borrowed Meg's dress from formal night so as not to have to wear her own fanciest dress again - after all it had been already seen when she wore in on Monday for formal night.... that would most certainly be a Glamour "don't" . The rest of us got ready to go to Rockin' BarD to see the comedy and ventriloquism of Lynn Trefzger.

We had bought an internet package so that Meaghan could do/submit her homework, but ended up with many more minutes than she needed. I decided to stop by the internet cafe and quickly check e-mails :surfweb: before heading to the club. I almost wished I didn't when I found an e-mail stating that Jody's flights on Saturday had all been canceled and changed! :scared1: She was flying home alone, as she had made her reservations long after we did, and she literally had to take what she could get. Her first flight was now scheduled to leave MCO at 8:45 am ... no way she'd make that! I sent an e-mail back, saying she couldn't make it, and hoped for the best. I made the decision not to tell her... why should 2 of us be worried? She had worked an incredible amount of overtime in the months leading up to the cruise, and was just now de-stressing. I didn't want to get her all worked up again, and have her worrying all day on CC, so like the good friend that I am, I decided to keep it to myself for now ;)

As usual, we were all fading as the evening progressed - too tired and too full to even check out the Chocolate Buffet in Lumiere's ! The younger ones in our group stayed in the bar for a while, we "old ladies" headed back. Kelly would be in the Stack until 2 am ... I knew there was NO WAY I'd make it until then!

Our second-to-last-night on the ship - We set our clock BACK the hour we should have - double and triple checked that it was BACK, not forward and called it another wonderful day. As sad as it was to realize that we had only one more night on the ship, we were sailing in calm waters and had no reason to think we wouldn't be able to dock the next day at Castaway Cay.... just the stuff sweet dreams are made of! :cloud9:

Next up : A day in paradise and our journey comes to an end..... but how exactly will Jody be getting home ???

:wizard:I am enjoying your TR very much:wizard:! We used to have yankee swap where I worked for Christmas and it was always a blast. One time I got the most fought over pub glasses and after 10 years I still look at them with pride over a battle hard fought!:goodvibes

There were two men already in there - one who was bad-mouthing DCL over the events of the weekend, and the other one who was saying absolutely nothing.
He definitely felt Disney "didn't do enough for him" - "What more could they do ?", we asked (They gave us entertainment (park tickets) food vouchers, a hotel for Saturday night, onboard credits of $100 per cabin and $20.00 per person)

They "made" him go to EPCOT and his kids don't like EPCOT -at 8 and 10 they are "done" with WDW he said - (WHAT???)

Finally he explained that we "didn't understand, because he had booked his trip with DVC points so the refund of 20% of the fare was not going to apply to him."

So he doesn't seem to like Disney himself...and he says his kids are "done" with WDW....and they're only 8 and 10...why would this guy have DVC then???:confused3...that seems like a big waste of money

We were a little confused about the whole "done with WDW " thing, too. He was just looking to complain, I think. Some people tried to "milk" the whole thing to see what they could get. It seemed they thought that they could get more than everyone else if they complained a little longer and a little louder. Thought Disney would throw them more to shut them up? :confused3

But - as far as why did he buy DVC.... I also have to wonder why he took a cruise if he "only wanted to go to St.Maarten" ? :rotfl:

Another early morning for Jody and me, we walked around on deck 9 (our last time to do that! :sad1: ) and noticed that the spa folks were setting up to do massages outside. We figured that it was because they were not fully booked due to most everyone planning to spend the day on the island. Jody inquired and was told she could have a 30 minute massage (head, neck, shoulders) for $35.00. She happily accepted that deal!

I left her to enjoy her massage and went downstairs to rouse the girls. We had planned to meet Betty and Linda for breakfast in Lumiere's, but nether one of them wanted to get out of bed (although Meaghan said later that she DID want to go and I should have "made" her get up... yeah, right ). Kelly was scheduled for a teens only excursion on the island, "The Wild Side" which involves biking, kayaking and snorkeling. She had done this excursion before and loved it, so she was looking forward to it today. The cost is just $35.00 , a great bargain for this 4 hour adventure. Soon Jody was back, loosened up and ready to go (of course she had no idea that her flight home had been canceled - no wonder she was so :lmao:relaxed!). We met Linda and Betty for breakfast as planned and as we were eating we saw land, and eventually felt the ship docking. Castaway Cay! YAY! We've been so lucky..... in 5 cruises we've never once missed the island. :cool2:

We were off the boat quickly and headed to Serenity Bay, taking pictures along the way. It was a sunny but cool day, probably in the 60s, but that was fine with us, we were happy to be outside and not have it snowing! We stopped along the way and bought Konk Koolers (yes, it was about 10:30 am but Linda declared it was "time"). We were eventually joined by more of our dining crew, Brooke, Diane and Kim, and we all enjoyed the sunshine and conversation. I was the only one who braved the water, and even then only up to my knees, but I'm used to Maine in the summer which is probably about the same temperature (by August!) Some of us went to eat at the adult BBQ, others decided to wait, which wasn't the best idea. By the time they decided to eat (around 2 pm) , everything was closed!

I had to meet Kelly for hair-braiding, just as the sun had decided to go in for the day and a breeze picked up.The ones who had not eaten decided to go back to the ship and get some lunch. I browsed in the shops while she had her braiding done and bought 2 Bahama Mamas on a "2 for 1" special. Of course, after I bought them, I remembered that Jody had headed back with the others..... I drank mine and figured I'd bring it back to her, what a nice little surprise that would be. However...... hair braiding takes a long time..... and it's still a good distance back to the ship...... somehow Jody's Bahama Mama didn't make it to Jody.....:rolleyes1

Back on the ship we all showered and got ready for our last dinner. We packed up... why do dirty clothes take up so much more room than clean clothes? :confused3 Our suitcases were stuffed! Of course we did have all that FE stuff...but we brought a lot of FE stuff too! We hadn't bought a lot onboard but we still had a bit of trouble getting it all together! I couldn't find my shoes, I wanted to wear them home, but figured they were already packed and didn't want to start opening the suitcases. Sandals it would be for going home to snowy Massachusetts!

Brooke, Kim and Diane had missed their Palo dinner when we missed the first night, so they were going the last night instead. We were taking Gabby to the show and to dinner, but when we went to get her we found that she had some very big news! Apparently when they got back from CC, there was an invitation on their door for Gabby, inviting her to a private ::MinnieMo "Character Meet & Greet"pluto: at 10 pm in Studio Sea. They had no idea why she was selected, but she was very excited to be chosen! Meaghan quickly volunteered to take her in case Kim was still at Palo (hard to tell who loved the Princesses more... Meg or Gabby!)

We headed to the "Remember the Magic" variety show and about half way through the show Gabby declared she "needed" a drink, so Meg went to get her one. And when Meg returned... she quickly found herself part of Alfred & Seymour's act... that will teach her to leave and return in the middle of a show! :rotfl: A few moments later Linda (Boomerville) was also part of the show, only she actually STOLE the show by chasing after one of the entertainers when she thought he stole her camera. She really got a workout running up and down the stairs of the Walt Disney theater... but later told us that he had used a "slight of hand" and never even had her camera! Linda said she felt silly for falling for his trick, but we told her she made the show.

Our last dinner in Animator's Palate (again!) and this time Dwight presented Meaghan with the Baked Alaska she had been asking for all week. He had been telling her he was sorry, but she missed that dessert when we were missed the first night, but all along he had just been teasing since it is always part of the final dinner. We gave our tip envelopes to Dwight, Steve and Ivo, and said our good-byes both to them and to our table-mates, as we were not planning to attend breakfast in the morning. Meaghan and Gabby went off to the private party and we went to Shutters to buy the few photos we had decided on, and then we went to get a good spot to view the ""Til We Meet Again" show. The private time with the characters was beyond wonderful. Meaghan had tears in her eyes telling us about Gabby with Peter Pan, how he "introduced" her as "Princes Gabby" princess: to each of the characters. They have amazing pictures of her with all the characters and it will be a memory not only for her, but also for those who were with her to share that special moment . Gabby is a delightful little girl, and we truly enjoyed spending time with her on this cruise. We believe that CMs must have seen, as we did, how special she was, and this is why she was invited to this event.:tink:A wonderful bit of pixie dust on her last night!

After the show we went to Rockin' BarD for the always funny "If I Were Not Upon the Sea" skit put on by the cruise staff, and an adult comedy show by Alfred & Seymour. We wandered back to the cabin around midnight and the ship was strangely silent. The luggage was all gone, the cruise was over. We took our door magnets off and went inside to sleep in our beds on the sea for the last time.

Next: Three connections will get you home....... we hope.....

Enjoyed the update. Wish I would have asked about the massages when I saw them come outside. I am dreaming for one right now!
