We're Dreaming of a WL Christmas! DEC 2010 INTERACTIVE PTR NEW: 12/9 BYE-BYE!

Great tips!! I also do the same thing with the kids clothes in Ziplocs. I put the clothes, socks, and hair accessory all together. I even label the outside to say which park/day the outfit is for!

Kammie :wizard:

Awesome! You are so crafty!! I will gladly use these tips one day when I have kids!

What a great Fourth of July you had!

Love all your organization ideas! I may be borrowing (yet again) some of your ones for the car! Great thinking! :thumbsup2

wow! Soooo organized!!! I didn't read the Jan 2010 report but I'm assuming that you drove not fly right? I can't imagine having all those containers and having to pay all those baggage fees unless you are on SW!!

Ok--first off--where do you find the Disney Princess Teddy Grahams?! I've never seen those before!

Love all of the organizational ideas!! The collapsible totes are really cool! We don't have a Container Store around here, unfortunately. My favorite organizational idea is the labeled clothing bags for each day. It takes up less space in the suitcase AND it saves time in the mornings. Everything is in the bag that will be worn that day including panties, shoes, etc. And Brent is able to grab a bag and help me dress the girls easily. :thumbsup2

I lovee the Container Store!! Most of my college-organizer things were bought there, and now they're used in our home! I find the quality to be great-- even the collapsible crates have lasted years!
I do a similar thing with my own clothes that you and many other Dis'ers do with your children's clothes. I plan out what I'm going to wear each day and roll the entire outfit into a capsule-- bottom, top, underthings, etc. That way, when I wake up on vacation, I grab a capsule, grab my tolietry bag and head into the shower! There's no indecision about choosing outfits. I ALWAYS dress faster than DBF on vacation, but he still refuses to use my method!

Wow! I thought I was organized until I just read your update.

We fly down so I don't have any car tips, but my favorite organization trick is one I haven't used yet. I'll be getting a clear, hanging shoe holder to hang in the closet beside the Pop bathrooms to hold our toiletries. No vanity clutter! :thumbsup2

We're driving to Maryland in a few weeks for a wedding

What part of Maryland? If it's close, maybe we could do a quick DIS meet!

I'll be getting a clear, hanging shoe holder to hang in the closet beside the Pop bathrooms to hold our toiletries. No vanity clutter! :thumbsup2

Best idea! We do that on the cruise because the bathrooms are small. It makes such a huge difference in helping to stay neat and tidy!!!

I used those containers that you had last year (the plastic shoe boxes with lids), but I just packed mine into a large suitcase. I was able to fit five of them into one piece of luggage and I checked it at the airport with the rest of my bags. It worked really well. The only problem was that two of them were cracked when we arrived b/c the airline was pretty rough with the luggage. But since you are driving, that wouldn't be a problem. But I think I like the collapsable boxes even better! :thumbsup2

My organizing issue hasn't really been packing to go, it's been packing to leave! Our room was always a mess throughout the week with dirty laundry piling up (I cannot stand a messy hotel room...........too small to be in there with junk everywhere!). One year I took a collapsable, mesh laundry basket for all the dirty clothes, but then on the last day, I had to get all that mess back into a suitcase. But I have finally come up with a system that works for us. After I unpack, I just leave our largest suitcase out and open all week and we fold our dirty clothes and put them into that suitcase as we go all week. Then on the last day, I just zip it up, and I only have to pack the toiletries! It worked great last time. I spent minimal time packing to leave, which is always so depressing anyway, so I was glad it didn't take long. Then, when I get home, I just take that bag straight to the laundry room and get it washed.

My only other miracle item is an organizer toiletries bag. It is one of those that holds a ton of travel sized items all in one bag and you unfold it several times and it hangs on the door hook in the bathroom. It is great for hotels b/c they have so little counter space. I couldn't do without that bag!

The only other thing I can think of right now is that we use a large bag with our stroller. We put all our things into a very large bag that I kept under the stroller in the basket. On our first trip, I quickly realized that we were going to have to unload the stroller quite frequently getting on and off of Disney transportation. It was just too much trouble to have to take several bags/items out of the bottom to fold it up every time we got on a bus. And the bag was big enough for everything that I brought with me to the parks and we had plenty of room for anything that we bought too. It all went into the bag! So that helped a lot to just have one large bag to grab when we needed to fold it up quickly.

But it looks like you have a great system going already. I also used the contanier of goodies beside the car seat and that works great. I think the tub toy trash can is a terrific idea! I may have to steal that one! :) Love the outfits in bags idea too. I need to adpot that one as well, especially when we want to wear matching outfits!

WOW, you are super organized!

Love all the treats for the kids. I totally remember getting American Girl magazine when I was younger. :) That license plate game is a great idea!

love love love all the organizing tips. I am verified (insane!) type-A personality that loves organizing. Drives my DH nuts how i pick stuff up and put it 'away'.

anyhow- love the bins- but you drove down with those? We fly and so those might be hard to fit in the suitcases. however, we used the over the door shoe rack trick on our last few stays. at WL, it worked well- just put on the inside of the bathroom door- it was a floor to ceiling type shoe rack that just hooks over the door- and had like 20 pockets. I put sunblock, makeup, meds (high up where the toddler couldn't reach) and everything else in those pockets. we even found one for under $5 on sale! similar to this one
4508213423830P.JPG

heck, i use one at home in our coat closet year round. i keep mittens, gloves, hats, scarves, dog leashes, dog sweaters and the like in the pockets at home. really easy to organize.

we also loved the $1 store pop up hampers, we used those for dirty clothes and haul our clothes down to the laundry!

my mom also bought us some 'space bags' and those came in handy when packing- like you, we do the ziploc bags, but i was able to fit stuff like nightgowns etc. into the space bags to save room! ;)

for the stroller, we also have a large organizer bag we got at babies r us. it just attaches to the handle/back and has a large mesh bag for big items, then a smaller section in front of that with a zipped pocket and two other pockets (that are great for holding water bottles). Since our stroller doesn't have much of a basket below, we loved having this bag on the back to put in maps, sunglasses, sunblock, waters and even my camera in the zipped compartment.

it looks sort of like this:
4pXVKHLZBX2PKwLfZSGfOr3r0OcZyvIJ-OkmWn7bwW4vvO5syAikJIEGLw5iuKWTk9shEA4RI8nQ0i-tvHJlBYCCZW9c96orcIhCfgt_V_RWVWfVVAX73HmMAqwlNrOGzXkDUOLOBgYyVGa9ipW5snzHsD7zKtgkubDrZ5k4YgzAEdDqQQ

for the car, we found a great little car trash thing at the container store- it has a little trash can and hooks onto the back of a seat (or the center console in our truck), it has a kleenex holder too at the bottom, you stick in a box of kleenex and pull them out through a little hole. i love that thing!

Great tips! I absolutely love organization, and the Rubbermaid bin aisle is one of my favorites in the whole store! :lmao:

Thank you!!! That is my favorite aisle in the store too!! ha

Wow! You are certainly very organized. I consider myself a neat/organizational freak but not anymore! I have that same pink/purple colored tote in my closet and I use it as my Disney box. Every time I buy something for our trip I throw it in there so everything is all together. It makes it so much easier when I'm packing!

We don't usually take long car trips (only to Syracuse and it's only 2 hrs away). We're driving to Maryland in a few weeks for a wedding and I haven't even started thinking about it yet. Madison will bring her Nintendo DS for sure and lots of books. I'll probably bring my ipod and that's about it. We will have a small cooler so we can stop somewhere to eat lunch. Madison is very easy to travel with so I don't have to worry about her. :goodvibes

HAHA oh I am sure you are VERY organized too! I love the idea of a Disney box! I will have to use that one. I do not have to worry about my 7-year-old too much either. The DS also keeps her very busy and DVDs. My two year old is a GREAT traveler as well. We got pretty lucky. We are about 9 hours from Disney--so we leave really early in order for them to sleep most of the way!

Great organizing ideas! For better or worse, we're flying so I probably won't use so many containers but I like the idea! Maybe I'll get a few small ones for crayons and markers and coloring books inside the backpacks....

Amanda

Thank you!! Yes--we drive (I can not imagine checking those bags in with all of my rubbermaid-ha!) They have nice smaller ones, especially in the craft/school supply aisle.

I love this post! You've got so many great ideas! I love the collapsable bins from the container store (one of my favorite places to shop!). I think your idea about carrying them in in that large bag and then filling the crates once you're in the room will work really well! :thumbsup2

And what a great idea for the trash! That is definitely an issues that we have too, since we drive.

I seriously think I'm going to try the ziplock packing method for myself! I think it will be really beneficial in Italy because we'll be traveling between cities so much. If it works out well there then I can use it for the disneymoon! :woohoo:

Thank you!!! We don't have a container store here, but we will be in Houston soon and I will get them there! It is my favorite store of all time. I can't stand trash in the car!!

It is SO much easier doing the ziplock method. My DH and I use it too. Try it out for Italy and let me know how it goes!

Great tips!! I also do the same thing with the kids clothes in Ziplocs. I put the clothes, socks, and hair accessory all together. I even label the outside to say which park/day the outfit is for!

Kammie :wizard:

LOVE the ziplock method. I did not label this year due to lack of time, but I will def. do it in December b/c I will have lots of people helping dress the kids.

Awesome! You are so crafty!! I will gladly use these tips one day when I have kids!

Thank you!!! I would be lost without organization with these crazy kids! ha.

What a great Fourth of July you had!

Love all your organization ideas! I may be borrowing (yet again) some of your ones for the car! Great thinking! :thumbsup2

We did have a great 4th---thanks!! Please--borrow my ideas! I am loving all of the ideas and tips people are giving me! It seems like the older my kids get, the more JUNK we need to bring!

wow! Soooo organized!!! I didn't read the Jan 2010 report but I'm assuming that you drove not fly right? I can't imagine having all those containers and having to pay all those baggage fees unless you are on SW!!

We did drive. We are about 9 hours away. HAHA NO WAY! Would not pay those fees! That is one plus about driving, you can bring things like that. Although, we are on the road for a long time vs. a 1 hour flight!! hehe

Ok--first off--where do you find the Disney Princess Teddy Grahams?! I've never seen those before!

Ummm I am pretty sure I got them from Target in January?? Or maybe Walmart...

Thank you!! We do not have a Container Store here either. We are going to Houston to visit friends soon and I will get all of the supplies then. I just love it there!! I agree--I need to label the clothes this year. I stacked them in "order" in my case, but I will have lots of ppl helping in Dec. so I will need them labeled. I like that you have ALL their things inluding shoes. Great idea!

I lovee the Container Store!! Most of my college-organizer things were bought there, and now they're used in our home! I find the quality to be great-- even the collapsible crates have lasted years!

Me too!!! Love it! I am so happy the crates have lasted. That was one thing I was worried about. I also love the ziplock method of packing. That DBF of yours needs to get on the band wagon!!! HAHA. It is SO nice to know what you are going to wear!

What part of Maryland? If it's close, maybe we could do a quick DIS meet!

We're going to Annapolis for my cousin's wedding. I hope to meet up with another DISer on the way back home! :goodvibes

The Disney box is my saving grace. I have ponchos, lanyards & pins, my Minnie headband, travel size items, shoe organizer...it's very helpful. The DS is one of the best inventions! We always bring the car charger. That thing has the longest cord ever! There is NO way we will ever drive to WDW. It would take us over 24 hours!!!! We drove to Disney my first 2 trips, but I was only 2yo and 5yo so I don't remember what it was like. I know that we took our time and stayed overnight a few times on the way down.

Wow! I thought I was organized until I just read your update.

HEHE I am sure you are SO organized. As a Mom, you have to be!!! I was thinking of using the shoe holder method as well. The vanities are not too big so that would be great.

I used those containers that you had last year (the plastic shoe boxes with lids), but I just packed mine into a large suitcase. I was able to fit five of them into one piece of luggage and I checked it at the airport with the rest of my bags. It worked really well. OH MY GOODNESS!!! What an AMAZING post of ideas! Love it.

I am very, very excited about your dirty clothes idea!!! I brought pop up hampers last year, but they took up too much space and was just gross to look at. I am totally going to use your method!!! Thank you!!

I have a hanging toiletry bag as well. I did not bring it last time, but I will have to this time. The vanity was really small.

I agree--we are only bringing one bag to the park this year!! When my son was younger and we had bottles, etc...we had to bring two. But I am going with the VB large backpack this year. If it is cold, my husband will carry a backpack too for our gloves. Thanks again for your amazing tips!!!

WOW, you are super organized!

Love all the treats for the kids. I totally remember getting American Girl magazine when I was younger. :) That license plate game is a great idea!

Thank you!! I love the AG magazine!! There are lots of fun quizes to take, I even like to read it! he. I am excited to see how many plates we will see. I am kind of worried because we usually only see Alabama, Louisiana, and FL plates on the way down. Ha!

love love love all the organizing tips. I am verified (insane!) type-A personality that loves organizing. Drives my DH nuts how i pick stuff up and put it 'away'.

I would LOVE to get Space Bags. How do you re-pack them before you leave? Don't you need a vaccum?

I am going to try the hanging bag idea this year!!! Didn't you find the vanity at the WL very small? The sinks were nice and large, but not much countertop space. I like the idea of hanging it high away from the toddlers! ha.

That stroller hanger looks awesome!!! I am going to look for one. I plan on renting a double stroller from Orlando Strollers. I wonder if it would fit on that? I also would LOVE to find that trash bag at the CS for the car. We will be going to the Container Store in a few weeks---I will have to be on the lookout.

Thank you SO much for your amazing tips!!! Glad to see that I am not the only OCD person out there! haa!

What a fun update! Wow, you're organized!!!
You have a container store?!?! I'm so jealous.
O.k, let me chime in my two cents. I'm very organized at home; everything has a container and label. On vacation, I was when the kids were smaller but now not as much.
One year, I got makeup bags personalized for the entire family with a mickey head on it. Everyone packs and keeps their tolietries in it and then it just goes next to the sink. It saves a lot of counter space.
Also, at the Disney store they have these large Mickey tote bags for a dollar. Dh uses one, I use one, and the girls share one. These are our laundry bags. We put the tote bag in the suitcase when we're leaving and when you get home you just empty it into the wash.
We only have a 3 hr drive to Disney so we just talk and DH rents a movie on I-tunes and puts it on the kids' I-pods. They also look at maps and decide what they want to do.
We use one hard bag on wheels and the rest are duffel bags. That way once we're unpacked the duffels go in the hard suitcase and that saves a TON of closet space.
I bring a beach bag on the way up with breakfast food, snacks, paperplates, etc. We take it out when we get there and use it there and then I use it as a pool bag. On the way home it can either be a bag for soovies or the pool things.
I have a disney drawer but I need to switch it to a large container. We keep the autograph books, ponchos (Hope I don't need these!), squirt fans, lugguge tags, glow sticks, etc. in it. I love being able to put things in it. I also put things in it that I always forget. (A pair of flip-flops, sunglasses, etc!) I also keep my camera charger in it and take it out when I need it. When I'm done it goes right back in the drawer. This is because it was forgotten last time!:scared1:

How could I have forgotten this!!! I have this EXACT same organizer from Toys R Us and it ROCKS!!!!!!!! :thumbsup2 I loved it b/c we could fold up the stroller without taking this off. I'm sure it would work on just about any stroller too b/c the straps are adjustable.
