I surprised my wife last week on Christmas morning with an Italian themed Gift basket I painstakingly arranged myself in secrete on Christmas Eve afternoon while she was out running last minute Christmas errands. I imagined with excited anticipation her sure to be memorable reaction of shock and utter surprise as I thoughtfully arranged a nice bottle of Pino Grigio, imported Pasta, Spaghetti sauce, Lemons, Garlic Cloves, Italian Spices, Olive Oil, etc. in the straw strewn wicker basket.

On Christmas morning she eagerly tore off the less than perfect wrapping job obviously the work of a man, from the mysterious gift in the back of the tree I purposely held till last. To her surprise, as she slowly removed each item one by one exploring all the gourmet items hidden among the assortment of culinary delights, she finally came to the bottom and discovered a peculiar folded letter.

Her curiosity peaked; she reached in for the letter with inquisitive interest, unfolded it and began to unsuspectingly read the ABD ‘Viva Italia’ Trip Itinerary and Confirmation I had printed out the afternoon before and placed at the very bottom of the overflowing basket.

After a few paused looks of confusion she ever so sloooowly began to comprehend the words on pages within her hands. The expression on her face then began to take on so incredible a look of surprise and sincere excitement as she proceeded to repeatedly exclaim in a half questioning tone of disbelief that we are going to Italy, that in that moment I had made up my mind that the exorbitant cost of the surprise had already proven to be worth every penny.

So it is that in only 263 days from today, we will be experiencing our first ABD adventure, and our first trip to Europe for that matter, on the Adults Exclusive ‘Viva Italia’ trip this coming September.

I’m sure most of you already know the excitement we are feeling inside, but I cannot help but to express and share it. We have already begun to list out and watch every movie set in Italy (‘Under the Tuscan Sun’, ‘Angels & Demons’, ‘Much Ado About Nothing’, ‘The Talented Mr. Ripley’, etc.).

:yay:  :cheer2: :woohoo: party:

Congrats, Mirthrindr2!!! I was so afraid your story was going to end with her not wanting to go! I'm glad the surprise was all you wanted it to be & more!

Viva Italia is one of ABD's most popular itineraries. I did many of the activities from Viva Italia on my ABD/DCL Med Cruise trip last summer. It was truly wonderful, and the ABD Guides were spectacular. You are in for a really fabulous time!

Sayhello

Good job! And this trip is one of the most popular by ABD. We went in 2007 when it was pretty new--and it was our first ABD. We went into Rome early and did a day on our own--but once we were with the Disney guides it was all truly magical, relaxing--worry free. Take advantage of the guides' experiences and let them help you plan out free time. Please be sure to post a trip report too!

:yay:

Looks like there are at least 2 couples from the DIS on this adventure.

My husband, Dino & I are booked for this adventure too.

I must say, Jim did a great job with the Christmas surprise. I can only imagine his wife's expression when she got to the bottom of that basket :faint:

We've watched Angels & Demons several time just lately too, but I totally forgot to check the extras on the DVD...
Also, if you can find them, there are 2 episodes of Everyone loves Raymond that were filmed in Italy. I found them on TBS a view months ago and have them on the DVR now.

If you're in to Podcasts - try Rick Steves - Europe and pull out the ones from Italy. He has some wonderful podcast audio episodes and then a whole slew of video too & best of all - FREE

Really looking forward to adventure ... we can't wait

What a great story! The Viva Italia trip is an amazing trip, my daughter and I absolutely loved it.

You describe this event so well - can't wait to read your trip report! You will love the Viva tour. If you can swing it, plan to spend an extra day or two in Venice at the end - that was my favorite part and we didn't have as much time there as I would have liked. The entire ABD experience is fantastic.

As far as movies - we just saw one this summer that reminded us of our trip, and gives you a very nice flavor for Italy - Letters from Juliet. Not heavy lifting, but very fun.
