just wondered where you gurus get your car hire from? we are amongst the lucky ones who got the bargain seats into miami, and now need car hire (something biggish) for 21 nights.... which websites do you find give the best prices?
thanks

Thankfully for Easter I got the Dollar error but I had not booked August flights so couldn't book for that trip. Been looking all week and best option for me is with Hertz. If I get time I will probably book this weekend.

If you book with Mastercard you get 10% off using CDP code 569608

If you have AA membership CDP code is 504335 again 10% off.

Also book via Quidco for another 10% cashback.

To get free additional driver you can join Hertz gold #1 club free details here credit to Jakey http://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=380534&highlight=hertz

AA/AAA also offer free additional driver https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/part...artnerType=S&leftNavUserSelection=globNav_8_1

For 25 nights after cashback I have a price of £462 for full size 4 door car. Next nearest I can get is Alamo/brit offer at £508 then all the rest are £550+

You will just have to compare them all for the size of car you want. I believe Dollar.co.uk was cheapest for me on a SUV but £133 more than Hertz full size, not worth it to me.

i like using www.alamo.com...
if you put in your residence as being in the UK, your quote will automatically include all of the accident insurance (which the other car hire companies don't usually include, and alamo doesn't either for US residents)..

just yesterday, i reserved a minivan for my trip in june...
i accidentally put in my residence as the US and the quoted price for 2 weeks was over £700 and with no insurance....
i nearly swallowed my tongue...then i remembered i'd forgotten to change place of residence...so i went back and changed it to the UK, and the quote for 2 weeks was £417, and this time including all the insurance...

If using Alamo the Brits rate is best way to go plus 6.5% quidco cashback.
2 weeks 7 seater van would be £344.41 less £22.39 cashback, total cost £322.02 plus extra driver free.
For 7 seater that would be a better rate than Hertz after discount and cashback at £341.43

thanks Wayne - i usually do use the Brit Guide rate....i just didn't have it handy when i was booking the van yesterday...
i'll try it again for my dates and see what comes up...

i used the brit guide rate this time and it came up the same as just entering UK as my residence...
i must be doing something wrong...

I also looked at Hertz - they are nearly £100 cheaper than Dollar for December - 19 nights. Is the price inclusive of all taxes and insurances do you know?

Thanks Wayne - usually get platinum - but for a tank full of petrol - seems a lot extra to pay.

(having a lot of trouble with internet connection so I'm not on as much as I like at the minute)

Yes we used them direct too - best price out of them all, we only had a compact but it was about £312 for 21 days. :)

This August will be the 1st time for years I have not taken Gold/Platinum for 25 nights most places want over £100 more. Not going to cost me $155 for a tank, that would be some upgrade if the tank holds $155, what size car/bus would it be?

Wayne, I've not used Quidco before, if I sign up to Quidco will that get me 20% total off the price from Hertz if I use the Mastercard code & Quidco link?

I'm picking the car up in Atlanta and driving down to Orlando.

Thanks

Pete

If you had used Quidco before you'd get your 10% but your first Quidco transaction loses £5 in fees to Quidco.

Still worth doing as your next deal will be free of fees but worth noting.

American expat here...for CHEAP CHEAP rental cars please go to www.hotwire.com I always book my hotels and cars from hotwire when travelling back to the States. It will save you a bundle believe me!

You get 10% off with the code using Mastercard to pay and then 10% cashback but I believe you get that after your rental is complete, as said less £5/year Quidco fee(only if you use it, if you don't earn anything 1 year you don't pay) there are others available also like Topcashback is popular (no fees I believe) I use Rpoints a little more complex but they pricematch any of the others. I have has £650 cashback in past 2 month. Just got £45 tonight for buying van insurance.

Just got qoute for 25 days rental in August, full size car $1,192.73 =£774. Same rental with Hertz £462, am I doing something wrong?

www.carrentals.co.uk is a useful comparison website.

www.uscarhire.co.uk and www.usrentacar.co.uk are worth a look. On both sites you can see the prices for different car hire companies so you can choose who to hire with. They generally seem to offer much better prices than booking with the same company direct. I always check the company sites direct though too.

It varies so much from trip to trip as to the best deal. We never seem to book the same way twice running - even on trips where we need 2 separate bookings (eg, before and after a cruise) we end up with 2 different companies.

Booking through hotwire.com, do you not then have to pay the insurances in the US?
