We're back from the World! (with pics)

Enjoying your report . We will be doing a similar resort switch in Nov. - one night at Pop and then the Poly. Thanks for the pics. Makes me want to be there right now.

Thanks for the kind words. I used a simple canon powershot SD1000. It is the best inexpensive camera I have ever used. Currently working on Day 3....

:scared1: That's MY camera!

I was looking through the pictures saying, he must have this HUGE, crazy, awesome camera! I can't take a good picture to save my life!

ETA: I'm guessing you don't just leave it in "Auto." Any settings tips for clueless me?

Moving this thread to the Trip Reports Board where it is a better fit.

Day 3

Our 10hr drive from Friday night finally caught up to me Sunday morning. We slept in till about 9am, whoofed down breakfast, and headed to Epcot.

BTW, am I the only one who thinks the security gate thing is a joke? Sometimes we would have to open every zipper on our bag while other times we breezed on through with nary a glance by the guard. Don't even get me started on the finger print id. Anyway, who can be too upset when you're walking into your favorite park, right?

It turns out that sleeping in really did no harm as lines were again pretty short for a labor day weekend. We hopped on Test Track in about 10mins and sailed through the Mission Space line in about 5min with my wife taking the green side and I the orange (isn't Disney about bringing families together?). On our way to Soarin I got the bright idea we would sign up for the Behind the Seeds tour. Best decision of the day.

IMG_0815.jpg

Our tour guide was Christa and she was spectacular. Full of energy and fun, she is the only person I know that can make plants interesting :-).

As I said the tour was great. I took the liberty of acting an like an animatronic as the Living with the land boats passed us just for the fun of it.

Notice in the picture below a backstage Jungle cruise and 20,000 leagues into the sea ride vehicle. Really though the best part of tour was seeing the greenhouses from a different perspective than you normally would. Definitely worth the 12$.

Revujenated from the tour, we headed for lunch at the Electic Umbrella.

While a simple counter service joint, it is my absolute favorite place to eat in the World....errr the disney world. It doesn't matter what time of day it is, when we pass EU I immediately crave one of those overpriced cheeseburgers. Speaking of overpriced, we would find a way around this problem later in the trip. Really though, the EU just screams Epcot to me.

Dinner today would be at Capt Cooks at the poly. I had the pepperoni flatbread and my wife had the aloha pork sandwich. Both were great and we wound up eating outside to avoid the strange stench coming from capt cooks.

Back to MK. Evidently everyone at the resort was at MK for extra magic hours tonight. It was as crowded as any summer time crowd I have seen. As a result, we saw wishes again and headed back to the Poly for a late night stroll along the beach.

More later...

Thanks for posting! I didn't think I could get any more excited about our upcoming trip, but reading this has done it! :goodvibes THANKS!!!

Day 4

Another beautiful morning at the poly.

It was time to head over to our least favorite park DHS and experience the new Toy Story Mania. Why the least favorite? Well...a couple of things. I never enjoy just being in the park.Imho it really lacks the 'magical' feeling that I get when I am at MK and Epcot. In fact, it feels a lot like the real Hollywood...fake. The park also feels stuck in the '90s and reminds me of the dark days of the Eisner era for some reason.

IMG_0891.jpg

Regardless of this, TSM is a great attraction. Incredible? No. Well conceived and executed? Absolutely. It is also a very attractive ride to look at. In sum, a nice addition to DHS that provides something fresh for the park.

After a stint at rockin rollercoaster, TOT, and the always wonderful Muppetvision 3D it was off to Epcot by way of the boat, Friendship.

It was here at the Electric Umbrella again that we discovered that secret that would save us from expensive counter service meals at WDW. The Kids meal! Why pay $7.19 for a double cheeseburger and some fries when you can pay $4.49 and get a single cheeseburger, essentially the same amount of fries, chocolate pudding, and a small drink? Anyway...this worked perfectly for us and we stuck with this idea for the rest of our counter service meals.

Back to the resort to rest up for the night.

IMG_0945.jpg

IMG_0946.jpg

Except, I couldn't rest. Not with the MK in eyesight!! The wife decides to stay at the poly and I head to MK for a photo excursion. By the time I make it up main street I am about to die of a heat stroke and head back to the room. No matter, still got some decent pics.

IMG_1012.jpg

Back to Epcot and dinner at Mexico! San Angel Inn? Heck no! Why pay outrageous prices when you can get essentially the same food for a lot less at the Cantina? On the subject of food.....I had made reservations for all of our meals. We used ONE of them. I always have the best of intentions when it comes to eating table service at WDW and then have a hard time paying high prices for mediocre food (though we usually wind up doing it anyway :-). Anyway, we spent the rest of the night in the WS.

IMG_1060.jpg

Do me a favor. Next time you are at Epcot, catch a few rides in Future World and then spend the rest of the day in the World Showcase. There are so many hidden surprises and nice people to meet from their respective countries that you'll be glad you did.

We finish the night with the always spectacular Illuminations. While I had been upset the globe would be in refurb while we were there, the modified show was wonderful. I really really enjoyed seeing different touches added to the show to make up for the globe being gone. Sorry no pics. Camera died.

I'll charge the battery and continue tomorrow...

This is the best review ever :thumbsup2 Love the photos and your stories as well. Kids meal CS here we come!!

Your pictures are fabulous. I feel like I'm looking at your scrapbook or something. I have so got to take some photography classes somewhere before our January trip. I always have my camera set to auto, and I am really missing out!
Kids meals?! You're a genius! What a brilliant idea and I'm so surprised that the cheapskate in me hadn't already thought of that! LOL

Fabulous shots! I really need to invest in a nice camera and lens. We just have a point and shoot thingy. I love your shot looking over the river at CP! Thats too funny about the kids meals....great idea! ;)

Your pics are great, especially the fireworks pics. Amazing! Are you sure you're not a professional. Nice trip report!

:) I always get kids meals for myself! Not only is it cheaper - but a few hundred less calories! :)

I love your report and pictures. I have been having second thoughts about a Disney trip. It has been about 25 years since we were there and a lot has changed.
This has been a joy to read and I am ready to get on with the planning.
Thank You-:)
