I'm back to finish the afternoon of the first day of filming story... but first to answer a few questions... Someone asked for a photo. If someone could tell me how to post one I would, but I'm not very computer savy.
Someone else questioned why I gave the watch to one of my grandchildren and not the other. .. My granddaughter who turned 5 loves, loves, loves Cinderella, and the other loves Pluto and any kind of "doggie". The 5 ½ year old would have been jealous if I gave her cousin a doggie, but could care less about a Cinderella watch! However, I've got another "family heirloom" for her on her 6th birthday...When I was 9 years old; I had an Irish setter dog that I loved very much. My father (who is now passed on) gave me an Irish setter pin with my name engraved on it. That too is over 50 years old and means as much to me as the watch. Since my other granddaughter loves "doggies" she will get the dog pin on her 6th birthday in December. (I told her parents about it so they knew that their daughter was getting something meaningful for her birthday too). Actually my granddaughters are both too young to understand the sentimental value now, but my children do, and that was very important to me. The parents of the non birthday girl were very excited and happy for their niece.
Actually,
DVC reps told us that one of the reasons we were picked was because the love we have for each other came through loud and clear in our one-hour family conference call interview. I was very proud of my adult children and how they handled the telephone interview. Its not like we are professionals at this type of thing!
There was also a question about the group hug. This family tradition started when my daughter noticed that I got a little emotional the first time we stood on Main Street as a family (on our first DVC family vacation). I tried to hide it, but she saw me and gave me a hug. The rest of the family saw what was happening and we all hugged. Now we do it before any tears come and we all laugh-kind of like a team huddle!
So now on to the afternoon filming
After lunch we went on the jungle cruise. The film crew told us that this was the first time Disney has filmed anyone on this ride. Dont know why, just thought it was interesting to report. We were the only people on the ride and the driver was very dramatic and funny. The kids loved it. It was very easy to forget the film crew was with us. However, some of us (including me) were wired for sound for the entire day. I found that I should have been more aware of that when we were not filming
Especially when I forgot to turn it off in the bathroom!
I cant say enough nice things about the film crew. They played with the kids in between takes and made us all feel very much at ease. There was no pressure to do it perfect or their way. Whatever worked for the kids comfort level worked for them. It was such a positive experience I can see why DVC hired this crew. They were so good that the kids never even questioned why all these people were following us around! It didnt take long for them to figure out that they had juice and snacks however.
After the Jungle Cruise, we went on Its a Small World. It was too dark to film, which was too bad because the kids were very excited to experience that ride.
They then had us walk down Main Street a couple of times acting like it was the first time we saw it. I think the kids thought we lost our minds because we were all saying the same things over and over! But again, they didnt question why!
We then hopped on the monorail to film at Epcot. By now Drew was getting very tired and fell asleep in his stroller. It worked out perfect because at this point they wanted to film my husband and I doing the adult Disney at Epcot. We were stuck in the monorail with the production manager and the photographer for a while because of some mechanical problem which again helped extend Drews nap. We had an interesting conversation with both of them. They are the film company that films Extreme Home Makeover, Hanna Montana, Zack and Cody, and many other Disney shows. The girls were impressed that the makeup artist works with Hanna Montana and the Jonas Brothers. The photographer also told us the he shot the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue. I told him there would be no behind the scene shots of me! He shared lot of funny stories about the cover photo shoot while we sat on the monorail.
When we arrived, they had our family walk in and around the entrance area. I forgot to mention that they did put that small board in our face before shooting and say take one, etc. just like the movies (again too funny!) At this point, they told my husband and I that they wanted to film us in Italy enjoying the DVC experience as adults (which we do often). They had us walk over the bridge holding hands, then stop at the lake and talk for awhile, give each other a kiss and then walk back over the bridge to the outside tables in Italy. They had a table set up with wine and desserts. It was beautiful flowers everywhere. However it was so hot that I wanted to chug the glass of wine! They filmed us talking, laughing, and toasting each other. It wasnt too hard to laugh since people were staring at us
I started laughing when I heard one person say, that she had seen us on a soap opera! My daughter was taking pictures from a distance and someone asked if we were famous people. She said, Yes, they are, they are my parents!
When that scene was over Drew woke up on cue. They then had the kids through coins over their shoulders into the fountain in Italy. We then walked as a family through the pillars. I guess they wanted to film the beauty of that area in Epcot. Like the kids, we never questioned what they were doing either
I guess we were all having too much fun to question anything!
It was getting close to the end of filming (5:30 p.m.) so they had us do one last family walk by the fountain in France. The kids were skipping around so they like that.
The filming ended in France. We said goodbye to the crew and walked over to Beach Club for a wonderful family dinner at Cape May. We were too tired to walk back to Epcot for the monorail to Bay Tower, so we took a taxi.
We ended our day in the life of movie stars by watching Wishes fireworks from our living room. I truly had to pinch myself
Stay tuned for interview day.
